Ultimates 3 #1-5 discussion [Loeb/Madureira] [spoilers]

Re: Ultimates 3 #2 discussion [spoilers]

All I have to say is that at least it was better than the first one, which isn't saying much now that i think about it.

Yeah, I guess getting kicked in the nose is better than getting kicked in the junk.

Re: Ultimates 3 #2 discussion [spoilers]

I just read this and it doesn't and make any sense...

Re: Ultimates 3 #2 discussion [spoilers]

Geoff Johns over at DC is the polar opposite of Loeb. Johns actually KNOWS his history and not only does he stay in continuity he makes old continuity fun and exciting again. His work is filled with "nerdgasm" moments. Loeb on the other hand completely disregards established continuity and not only does he not pay attentioin to it, he actually destroys it. A pile of Johns toe nail clippings writes better than Loeb.

For the record Green Lantern is probably one of the best books being published right now by any company.

Totally agree with every ounce of what you said.

For sure, dude. Anyone who can take a long-forgotten Alan Moore short story and make it the blueprint for a huge story like the Green Lantern saga is alright in my books. :D I want to know what his big Action Comics story is gonna be about.

Re: Ultimates 3 #2 discussion [spoilers]

How has Geoff Johns taken an Alan Moore story and turned it into a saga? (I don't read GL.)

There was an old Alan Moore story where Abin Sur visits some far-off planet and hears an apocalypse story about the destruction of the Green Lantern Corps. In Johns' version of the continuity, the Guardians have been consciously ignoring Abin Sur's worries, and a number of set pieces and characters from Sinestro Corps were from the old Alan Moore story (Tygers, it was called, I think?) are informing the story, which seems to be building to the Lantern Apocalypse.

Edit: I think it's in that TPB collection of Alan Moore DC stories they released a while ago.

I've read the TYGERS story, but how is that showing up in the comics now?

Re: Ultimates 3 #2 discussion [spoilers]

So, does all this take place alongside current Ultimate Spider-Man or what? Because, back when the Ultimates were still government sponsored, in Ultimate Six, Fury says that Peter becomes government property right when he turns 18. And Peter was reluctant to join (I think he said he liked working solo). But now that the government is no longer in charge of the Ultimates, he's a member of the Ultimates....for no reason.

....That conversation between Hawkeye and Spidey is some of the ****tiest dialogue I have ever read.

Oh, you did? Well, in that case.... In the Sinestro Corps War storyline that just ended, where Sinestro creates his own army of lanterns with yellow rings.

Sodom Yat, the Daxamite Green Lantern who's supposed to be like a Messiah has appeared.

Ranx, the Living City is the SC's foil to the GL's Mogo.

The Children of the White Lobe appear too, but since I didn't pick up all the issues of GL Corps, I'm not exactly sure how.

Anyway, the idea is that the Guardians of the Universe had to take off the non-lethal restriction on the GL rings, and as a result, the Guardians are spiraling into the Apocalypse that was narrated in "Tygers". Presumably, that's what Johns is building up to with his next and last big GL story

If you're not reading Action Comics right now it's fantastic. He had a great General Zod story and Bizarro stories with Richard Donner and the Legion of Superheroes story he's doing right now is just great.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Gotcha. Thanks. :D

Re: Ultimates 3 #2 preview and interviews (spoilers i guess)

Nothing really about Book's past. It just features him helping out on a job (against his better judgement) and then leaving the ship (to set up his absence on Serenity in the movie). I just hope Whedon will tell Book's backstory (as well as more Firefly/Serenity stories in general) in comic form.

To go off topic for a minute. . .

Whedon and Brett Mathews are writing a comic about Book's past called "A Shepherd's Tale" after they finish Better Days.

Back on topic.

This book needs to be canceled before it does any more damage. I mean. . .is there anyone out there actually enjoying this?

I read the Zod story, and half of the Bizarro story and lost interest. I've never been terribly interested in the Legion of Superheroes either... I'm probably just going to wait until the big 2008 Superman Johns event before picking the book back up.

You should pick it up. It's quite good.

It sells real well. But trashy, bad stories sell.

Re: Ultimates 3 Previews

So instead of a naked Scarlett Witch we get a naked wolverine being eaten by a dinosaur... ****ing Loeb
Loeb thinks young girls like naked Wolverine being eaten by dinosaurs. It's like slash, only better.

Re: Ultimates 3 #2 discussion [spoilers]

Geoff Johns is my hero.

And Green Lantern is perhaps his best work. And one of the best titles out.

And The Sinestro Corps is the best event ever.

But that is only part 2 of his "Trilogy". If you plan on reading it Bass, Start with Rebirth and than the series.

Yeah those are great. I wish they would finish the Last Son storyline that was started before that Bizarro arc kicked off tho.

Anyway...back on topic, to whoever asked if anyone is enjoying this....I imagine there are. Of course those people should all be destroyed.
