I started out hating this episode. I hate this Jimmy. I hate that he's with Chloe. I hated the whole first scene.
But surprisingly, in the end I loved tonight's show. There was a lot of dumb stuff, but there was so much awesomeness it overrided it.
Dark Thursday having a lasting impact? Hooray!
Lana actually owning up to her friggin trust issues and taking responsibility for her rash, immature actions? Hooray!
Clark and Lex in the greenhouse was, in my opinion, possibly the best back-and-forth we've ever had between the two on the show. It was an absolutely classic moment. Rosenbaum was the epitome of a perfect live-action Lex in that scene. Subtle, intimidating, intense, and most of all....real. Spacey cannot TOUCH the Baum.
And what's more, this episode had two other absolutely fantastic Lex moments; the scene where he tell Lana that that was how he found out his mom died, and the shot of him walking out of the crowd wearing the legionarre uniform. That was incredible. The Anthony and Cleopatra bit was the icing on the cake.
Even Oliver Queen, who I thought sucked last week, is really starting to grow on me here.
So all-in-all, this was one of those mixed episodes that had a lot more good than bad and some classic moments that outshine the bad stuff. What I'm saying is, this is an episode I'll remember as being specifically good, and that's what matters in the long run.
4 out of 5. I really hope the season can maintain a level of quality somewhere near this area.
