Sony's logic on just that makes my head hurt. That EE chip sounds much better as it means they don't need to update the emulators. Why create more work for your self?
Do they want the ps3 to fail?
Sony removed the EE chip to lower production costs. I believe the EE chip costs about 30 bucks. So, basically, they're lowering the production cost from around $820 dollars per console to about $790 per console. As for updating the BC list, they're doing it far more slowly because they believe that people are more interested in playing downloadable PS3 titles (Like Warhawk) then getting a near-full BC list.
