PS3 Discussion

Hmmmm. . .not too bad. I've seen a few on eBay that are a little under $400 with cheaper shipping. Of course, I don't know if they stay that way, but it's possible.

cool , i would keep your eye on that link for new prices then you have about 450 saved up look on ebay for cheaper prices if there's none at that time i would use amazon.

Also are you sure "rumble-enabled SIXAXIS" is coming out? last I heard the reason they stopped doing rumble pads because of a lawsuit from the person they stole it from(Nintendo I think)

They "stole" it from Immersion, supposedly. But, they settled out of court and said they have plans to put it back in.

I don't get that...is the rumble different from the vibrate feature on the PS2 controllers?

No, the reason Immersion sued Sony in the first place is, supposedly, because Sony stole the dual vibration funcitons that Immersion invented. Sony settled out of court so 1) they could continue to produce the Dual Shock 2 for the PS2 and 2) to create a Dual Shock SIXAXIS. Immersion sued Microsoft, as well, but Microsoft wound up buying part of the company early on.

Immersion vs. Sony, for more info.

I know this isn't news to anyone else, but I just now read that MGS4 and FFXIII won't be out until March the earliest of '08. So yeap. Likely no PS3 until that time, if another $100 price drop happens.

I doubt FFXIII will be out even by then. I'm going to wait until they drop the 80GB price and just keep my PS2 for backwards compatibility.

I just read in GamePro that the 80GB is only in Korea at the moment. Or I just read something wrong.

It's only in Korea now, but they're bringing it to America next month bundled with Motostorm to fill the $599 gap that the 60GB one is leaving. Rumor is, once the 60GB stock runs out, the 80GB will lower to $499 with the new rumble Sixaxis and without Motostorm.

Ahh, ok.

But will they still keep making 60GB PS3s?

Nope. They've been discontinued as of this month. As TOG said, I'm sure they'll have them for a few months, but after that. . .only the 80GB will exist.

Which is one of the things I was upset about. Not only is a $399 price drop at least a year away now, but we will no longer have the Emotion Engine in the PS3.

**** Sony man. They're just doing bad business.

I'll have to see what games are out/will be out. I saw during G4's coverage of E3 that Sony has said they'll have 100 games out from now until the holiday season. If at least 5 games (or more of course) make me want to get them, then I'll get a PS3 soon. I will have the money, but it's still a lot.

I 100% agree. There are 5 games I want, but not all within the year. MGS, Warhawk and Heavenly Sword all look great, and I already want Ninja Gaiden Sigma, but MGS doesn't come out until next year. Lair might be good, but I'm waiting for the reviews to come in before making a decision.

I'm thinking I'll have enough cash saved during the holiday season to buy it, but I'll really have to think about which version to get. I'm hoping I can get a good deal on the 60GB version on eBay, but I'll have to buy a rumble Sixaxis in addition to it.

It's missing features, though. And it's probably as much as the 60GB is on eBay right now. :?

Wait they left features off certain ps3s? that sucks for yu people who want to but one.

At least 360 difference was a hard drive and wireless pad nothing too radical

Yeah. The 60GB PS3 is the best, in my opinion. Which is good, because its now the cheapest. The 20GB PS3 is missing Flash Card readers and internal WiFi. I could careless about the Flash Card readers (Since you get an HDD), but the lack of WiFi really put me off. The 20GB PS3 went out of production a few months back.

The 80GB has those, but is missing the Emotion Engine chip, which, basically, is the PS2 chip. Instead of the EE chip, it uses software emulation to play old PS1/2 games. The EE chip allows for something like 98% of PS1/2 games to be playable. The software emulation (Similar to the Xbox 360) allows for less than 50% to be playable. Unfortunately, Sony is less dedicated to updating its backwards compatibility list than Microsoft is.

The 60GB has the readers, WiFi AND the EE chip.

So, either buy the the 80GB with a PS2 (Unless you already have one) or buy the 60GB one.

Damn great thinking sony

See the more I hear the more i really don't want one and think it's a bad console. I always assumed the difference would be like other consoles wera it's just few different/more accessories than the cheaper one.

Sony's logic on just that makes my head hurt. That EE chip sounds much better as it means they don't need to update the emulators. Why create more work for your self?

Do they want the ps3 to fail?
