PS3 Discussion

Re: PS3 Discussion. Come, join the laughs.

As for exclusives, I've only seen the MGS4 trailer and the Heavenly Sword trailer. I'm actually a little surprised we haven't seen squat about FFXIII. . .

There are trailers for both FFXIII and FFVersusIII.

I have a thread with links somewhere, and they both look ****in incredible.

Re: PS3 Discussion. Come, join the laughs.

One game that got me interested lately is Uncharted... it really looks good and lots of fun.

I meant new info at E3. I've seen the old trailers.

Also. . .you know how Sony lowered the price on the 60GB model? Well, that's not permenant. You see. . .it's a clearance price. They're no longer producing the 60GB model. Once it sells out, we'll only have the 80GB, 600 dollar model.

Sony is ****ing retarded. I'm sorry.

Why? This is better than not dropping prices at all. They will sell all their 60gb models with a lower price...
I don't think people would like the 599 dolars better than this non-permanent price drop.

No, but why stop producing the 60GB model? People wanted that price drop. So, people who rush out to get it are fine, while everybody else who can't afford it this very minute get screwed? It's not a good business strategy. It's just a tease.

It is a good business strategy, they will sell the old models faster. People want the price drop, but maybe Sony can't give it to them yet. This could be a very risky move that makes them lose even more money with every console sold, they probably can't mantain the price like that for too much or there will be very bad consequences, that's why they will put the price up again later, but with a "bonus" of sorts.
And this strategy isn't for the people that can't afford it this very minute. It is for people that saw the movies at E3 and maybe got interested in the console, a price drop like that makes it much more atractive for them.

The problem is that they solicited this as a price drop. . .until today. So, they'll sell out of the old PS3, boosting their numbers for a month, then drop back to the same numbers they've been having? Possibly less? Or they could be sticking with the cheaper PS3 model and keep their numbers up. Sony's said on numerous occasions that money doesn't come from hardware sales; it comes from software sales. So, all they're doing is losing money in the long run since there really isn't any killer apps on the PS3 and won't be until Heavenly Sword hits. Killing yourself on hardware sales this early in the game when you don't have the software to bolster those numbers? That's a good business strategy?

And this strategy isn't for the people that can't afford it this very minute. It is for people that saw the movies at E3 and maybe got interested in the console, a price drop like that makes it much more atractive for them.

Everything they showed at E3 pretty much isn't coming until either very late this year or next year, when these cheaper PS3s will be long gone. So, unless you want to buy a system you aren't going to have games for for six months, I don't understand your logic.

Again Lynx is right and makes some great points.

No, no, they are boosting their sales withlow prices now that they don't have AAA games, when the drop is over, there will be probably many more great games for the PS3 and people will have more reasons to buy it. Why would you say this is going to take one month? Do you actually know how many were produced and how many are sold and how many WILL BE sold? Kind of a hard guess there...
And yes that's a good business strategy to get more people with the PS3 instead os the Xbox360 right now, if you don't agree, fine, but it is a very used strategy.

Since they can't have a good console with many great games right now, they can at least have a good console that is cheaper and have great promises...It's really not that complex.

Edit: Having in mind that only Sony EUROPE said that the prices will go back up. He said a month because he really thought that the console would sell.

They said they will have enough for months and months.

So I doubt it will sell out soon.

When it comes to Games... hell, entertainment in general, we tend to stick to our opinions as hard as we can. Everyone here has an opinion already made about PS3 and whatever, it's ok to agree with him, just don't say he is right and I'm wrong.

And I'm getting really annoyed with this thread name, are we going to lower ourselves to videogames fanboys? Can a mod change it with a normal thread name?

I meant he's right from a business look , lowering prices is great but put them back up when the change was beacuse fans wanted it. So then putting them back up is a bi "**** you" to the fans.

Do I like ps3? Hell no. However if you like it cool. I just think as a business thing they are going to get increased sales then piss people off and do very badly even worse than now.

I said a month because David Reeves, president of SCEE, said a month. Thing is, why not just sell out of the 60GB PS3, THEN introduce the new 80GB? Why lower the price at all? They're already losing 200 dollars for every console they sell. Why increase that loss by another 100 when you don't have to? Lower the price when you get those killer apps and the new rumble controller and when production costs are lower so you minimize your loss and maximize profit. Doing it now is just a waste. Not to mention all of the people who are pissed this isn't permenant. Now, those people who can't afford it yet are going to wait for the 80GB version to drop and Sony will be losing even more money.

They said they will have enough for months and months.

Probably. But, like I said, I'm going by what a Sony exec said.

What makes this worse is the fact that all the new PS3s won't have the Emotion chip. So instead of 95% of PS2 and PS1 games playable on it, now you have software emulation with just under 50% of those games being backwards compatible.

Don't get the wrong idea. I've always liked Sony. I was a big supporter of theirs during the PS1 and 2 eras. But, all I see this generation is the top brass making mistake after mistake. The PS3 has a ton of potential. It's too bad they limited their market by making it an extremely high priced machine. Hell, they did the same thing with the PSP. A great handheld, and worth the $160 price tag it now has, but it was ridiculously priced originally at $250. The PS3 is worth about $400 dollars. Anything more is just absurd.

Better that they lower the price for a little time that don't lower at all. They lose money for each console sold. They have a Blu Ray player that makes it really expensive (and good quality material). If you search for a Blu Ray player you will see that the PS3 is the best cost/benefice player out there, why? Because they are losing money to sell it "cheap".
They didn't drop the price for fans, they droped for costumers...

And please don't get into the "But it is a console not a player lololololo" argument because I think I'm gonna have a stroke if I have to see it one more time. :p

Because one PS3 bought earlier is a Xbox360 bought later or not at all. They have to spread their "area" (sorry for not having a better term, I'm really tired and I have some problems to right in english when I'm like that). They can't wait that much to lower the prices, I think, and I'm really guessing here, that they wanted to drop prices earlier so that they could compete better, but they simply can't, in the other hand, they can't let things go as they are. It's kinda desperate, but it is one of the best things they could have done, lose a little more money NOW and hope to get more later.

I won't you are right about that. However sony should of the done the 360 route of console and stand alone player.

Instead they are expecting people to pay an outrageous amount money because lets face it Sony want blue ray to win the war so badly they'll force you to get it with console.

But yes it's a console and blueray and I thought "that's worth it" at first. Now i realise it is not. If you look for ps3 in a shop is it under games consoles or dvd/hd-dvd/blue ray players? if you want it under consoles it should have a console price.

Now I'm not even speaking as someone who couldn't afford one , I could I don't want one.
