Marvel Cinematic Universe - Timeline

Yeah, but that just means Howard was fielding her missions before the events of the One Shot. All I'm saying is the show producers have firmly said the first season definitely takes place before the Agent Carter One Shot.

If I were to guess, I'd say the first 5-6 episodes will feature a sort of "mission of the week" vibe with larger plot elements dropped along the way (standard syndicated formula), with the final two episodes building towards the ending. I have a feeling they're going to tie the events of the One Shot into the finale for Agent Carter, and use it to set up a proposed Season 2 with her, Howard, and Dugan actually starting SHIELD immediately after the events of the One Shot.

If that's the case, that sounds pretty good. Really wish Agents of SHEILD and/or Winter Soldier had One-Shots on their Blu Rays.

Yeah, I agree. She was running secret missions while working for the SSR, in the one-shot she is working for SHIELD. So clearly the series is before the one-shot.

There is also an updated and expanded synopsis online now that gives more detail.

Years before Agent Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. team swore to protect those who cannot protect themselves from threats they cannot conceive, there was Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell, Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier), who pledged the same oath but lived in a different time when women weren't recognized as being as smart or as tough as their male counterparts.

But no one should ever underestimate Peggy.

It's 1946 and peace has dealt Peggy a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy finds herself stuck doing administrative work when she would rather be back out in the field; putting her vast skills into play and taking down the bad guys. But she is also trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life, Steve Rogers – aka Captain America.

When old acquaintance Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper, Captain America: The First Avenger) finds himself being framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons to anyone willing to pony up the cash, he contacts Peggy – the only person he can trust – to track down those responsible, dispose of the weapons and clear his name. He empowers his butler, Edwin Jarvis (James D'Arcy, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World), to be at her beck and call when needed to help assist her as she investigates and tracks down those responsible for releasing these weapons of mass destruction. But Jarvis, who is a creature of habit and sticks to a rigid daily routine, is going to have to make some major life changes if he's going to be able to keep up with Peggy.

If caught going on these secret missions for Stark, Peggy could be targeted as a traitor and spend the rest of her days in prison – or worse. And as she delves deeper into her investigation, she may find that those she works for are not who they seem, and she might even begin to question whether Stark is as innocent as he claims.

Yeah, it's a shame they stopped doing those (least for the time being). Hopefully they do more (I'm sure they will eventually). I even would've been happy with Agents of SHIELD Season 1 just collecting the five One-Shots that had been released so far. But I understand why they didn't from a business standpoint: those One Shots are an exclusive incentive to the BluRay versions of some Phase 1 and 2 films.

But the sooner they do more One Shots the better.

What made you think GOTG takes place then? It's an interesting spot. I've been trying to figure out where to put it myself.

Only a tentative placement currently. The main reason I placed it there is because it's firmly set in 2014 (with the opening occurring in 1988 ).

The first several episodes of AoS - Season 2 indicate that something like only 1-3 months passed between Seasons 1 and 2. That, combined with Coulson's reference to being chased all winter, and the date shown in CA-TWS occurring in the second to third week of October, 2013), have AoS - Season 1 ending around late October, 2013, and AoS Season 2 likely picking up in late winter 2014.

It's possible GotG occurs in very early 2014, or even very late 2014, but for simplicity's sake I've just placed after Season 2.

Once the season finishes airing I'll see if there isn't a decent sized jump in time during the season, to help line up the timeline for Age of Ultron's placement (since there will likely be some crossover element for them).

But for now that just seems like the best spot, until further information comes out.

Tonight's AoS episode 1x06 "A Fractured House" confirmed The Avengers as happening in 2012.

It also mentions that it's an election year (presumably mid term elections), pinning down AoS Season 2 as starting in 2014 (likely early 2014, sometime between January and March).

Good call. I noticed the 2012 reference but completely overlooked the election year even though I did hear it. I also believe "Midterms" was referenced explicitly in the episode. I wouldn't be shocked if we get and election day reference on the show that lets us lock down season 2's placement better in the coming episodes. Since winter has passed, Season 2 starts at in late March 2014 at the earliest.

On a side note, I've been slowly going through Season 1 again and double checking my "days" again to see If perhaps there is a logical (potentially timezone) way to line up the days perfectly. I'm mildly optimistic that it can work.

Yup. Though if they reference election results in the show (indicating the election had already happened), that'd force AoS Season 2 to take place (and begin) much later in the year. Unless there are some convenient jumps in time between episodes later in the season.

I'd love to see it work (then I can add in those specific dates to the timeline). I do think the fact they travel by plane a lot throughout the entire first season can offer a lot of leeway regarding time zone changes and night/day cycles, etc.

Ultimately due to the fact they travel a lot and there isn't a real time onscreen time/date a la 24, there's no way to verify them absolutely. Therefore it's just a matter of forcing those episodes to fit within the days provided by the hard dates in AoS 1x01 Pilot and CA-TWS. Time zone thing seems like the best compromise.

It's confirmed ward said "and the trial should wrap up just before the MIDTERMS."

I bet we're currently in spring 2014 so there is time for a trial. Time will tell.

Yup. If worse comes to worse and an episode later on reveals the episode to be occurring at a specific time of year (like an episode mentioning election results or the election happening soon, etc) we'd be forced to move AoS-Season 2 up 6-8 months, more in line with the "real time" aspect the episodes use (most seem to indicate several days passing per episode, and characters referencing past events in Season 2 happening "last week" or "weeks ago"), so if push comes to shove and it must be placed in "real time" (ie the episode's event occurs around the airing date, with exceptions made for episodes ending on cliffhangers and picking up immediately in the next episode), thus placing AoS Season 2 as starting around September/October 2014.

It wouldn't necessarily retcon or negate any of the sparse time references Season 2 has made so far. Talbot still could've chased them all winter (December, 2013 - February, 2014), and given up or had his resources redirected 6-8 months before Season 2 picks up. It also just means that Coulson has been writing those alien symbols longer than we thought, May has been recording him longer than we thought (and at, what, 19 times before the recent episode, that puts it happening a bit more than every couple weeks on average).

It means they've had Ward in his prison cell for a good 8-9 months at least, but nothing has been said so far that indicates otherwise, has it? Admittedly I do need to rewatch this season, but waiting until after I rewatch Season 1.

Catching up my MCU collection by ordering a couple DVDs (CA-TWS and AoS - Season 1), as well as the more recent MCU comic TPBs as Christmas gifts to myself. Once I get those I'm going to sit down and do a several week long re-watch of the entire MCU from start to finish, including all the comics. By that time I'll be able to watch all the films, One Shots, TV episodes (all of Agent Carter and AoS Season 1, and the first half of AoS Season 2.

I'm going to finally get those nagging bits completed (like the second issue of the CA-TFA adaptation), the Avengers comic adaptation added, as well as finalized page breakdowns for the GotG Prequel Infinite (since the version I read was the digital version), etc.

The timeline is going to get very big over the next five years.

In this week episode, Coulson said to Ward that it's been "3 and a half weeks" that Ward didn't talk with Coulson.
And we know since the beginning of season 2 that Ward was mute with everyone (except Skye) since his custody.

True. However that three weeks did not refer to thred weeks internal to this episode. It was three weeks that he didn't speak to coulson. Presumably before he began speaking with sky.

Just finished my review. it is Technically possible to make the AOS season 1 match with Cap 2 when considering time zones. there are at least two references that contradict said timeline. one with jenna saying sky had been with them months. and the other in e16 where garret says they have been tracking deathlock for weeks but in the compressed timeline it only been 7 days since peterson woke up with the eye. There are also a few times where the timeline is implied to be longer than my compressed time line, but not explicitly contradicted. If you like Ill post it. Bottom line is i think you are right in regard to them realizing that Cap 2 had a specific on screen date and they attempted to Retcon the best they could with the "all winter" comment.

I also think that in light of last nights episode definitively placing Season 2 in 2014 we should place GOTG at the end of season 1 which definitively is 2013. Plus that lines up to the actual release dates which is typically how the timeline matches up.

I havent integrated Thor 2 into the timeline on a day by day basis. Ill need to rewatch that first.

Also, Doctor Strange has had its release date changed to Nov 4, 2016 and needs to be updated on the first page.

Definitely post it!

Except for one thing: the movie explicitly starts in 1988. Then there's a 26 years later tag setting it in the present day (2014, though month can't be determined).

It's possible to place GotG between Season 1 and 2 of AoS, if we place GotG in very early 2014, essentially only a few weeks or month at most before AoS Season 2 begins.

That way it can still fall into 2014.

Thor 2 can be overlapped with the events of AoS 1x05 (Girl in the Flowers Dress) and 1x06 (FZZT) to keep the timeline days compressed as possible (to allow for the placement of all 16 episodes between September 12 and October 11).

Here are the two timelines. Thor 2 was tricky since Asgard's days appear to be about half a day ahead of London. The good news is the Asgard days seem to be approximately the same length as earth days. Or at least there isnt evidence to support it being a different length. So I kept them the same length.

AOS s1 to Cap 2 timeline. (You may notice that in a few instances the post credit scenes from one episode had to be placed during the events of the previous episode. None of those changes cause continuity errors though. And honestly I cant see how a single day can be eliminated from this timeline now. Especially considering I have Sitwell leaving on the morning that cap 2 starts, which is technically possible if we assume the bus was in the E. Pacific/Indian ocean. A reasonable assumption considering Garret was in Australia at the start of the episode, in my opinion.)

I just thought of another AOS error. Just before Sitwell leaves the plane they are above the north pole. the external shot shows the sun shinning, which only happens between March 21 and Sept 21 at the North pole. if Cap was in March/April it would work just fine. however that makes Talbot's "all winter" comments nonsense. I hate recon. If only the "all winter" and date in Cap 2 didnt exist. Then all this would work out. But atlas AOS s2 seems to really support the all winter thing. I guess Ill have to assume that clip was taken hours earlier as they flew out of the north pacific and not while they were circling the pole.

Agent Carter Premiers January 6 2015 AOS returns March 3 2015 http://comicbook.com/2014/11/05/marvels-agent-carter-premiere-date-agents-of-s-h-i-e-l-d-return-/ So if we assume that there are not new AOS episodes the week of Christmas or New Years AND there are now breaks after March 3. That means we will get at least one post Avengers AOU episode. I bet there is another break in April and we get 3 post AOU episodes. Ending the season on May 19th.

Yeah, that's my thinking. Agents of SHIELD will air episode 2x08 on November 18 (with 2x07 on Nov 11), likely take a one week break during Thanksgiving week, and air 2x09 on Dec 3 and 2x10 on Dec 10, then there'll be a few weeks off for Christmas specials the next couple weeks, and Agent Carter will air weekly Jan 6 - Feb 24, 2015.

Agents of SHIELD 2x11 will air the following week of March 3, and probably air weekly from then until May 18. There may be a break week in there, so it could run through May 25, but I doubt it.

I have a feeling they'll want to air the season finale during May sweeps week, which I believe is usually done the second week of May, so it's possible they may even air 2x21 and 2x22 both on May 11. Not necessarily, it just may be a possibility.
