Re: Dragonball Z live action !

Well that hair just makes sure that I will never ever see this.
Well how did you expect his hair to look? If it looked like the manga/anime it would be ridicules and laughable

Re: Dragonball Z live action !

Also besides Mr Popo who agreed is racist there is nothing racist about Dragonball. The main story is a guy coming from another place but yet been able to fit in (when he hides his tail) with everyone else.

In the original Dragonball, there's a character named Black. He's Commander Red's main servant in the Red Ribbon Army, and he has brown skin (hence the name 'Black'). Also, his lips are accentuated to make him look more African, similar to blackface. He was made Hispanic in the Path to Power mini-movie, however. Most characters in Dragonball who are 'intended' to be black/African (hence their skin color) are given those accentuated lips, and it's quite obvious throughout the show.

Well the name black is not just because he's black as each of them are named coloured e.g Commander Red , Adjutant Black , General Blue.

Also you could argue that his appearance is jut over exaggerated not raciest but to go another route , Popo for a start isn't human so he doesn't count as it could just be what his race looks like.

Also black is not a "servant" He just works for him in the same way blue did.

But anyway I wont go in to this more as it's off -topic. please keep the talk about the movie and not what is and isn't raciest in the manga and show.

Re: Dragonball Z live action !

I don't mind Goku's lack of anime hair (one of the nessacary steps in making a live-action movie.

I do mind Roshi's lack of a beard and sunglasses, however. Very much.

I think goku is only the only one in costume the others are just cast members e.g james marsters is normal and not green and ugly piccolo (unless your been sarcastic then my bad)

I agree with this.

Those who do not, please Google and read "Why Do Manga Characters Look White?"

Well the name black is not just because he's black as each of them are named coloured e.g Commander Red , Adjutant Black , General Blue.
Just because everyone was color coded, doesn't automatically mean he isn't being deliberately colored racially.

That's like saying there is no grounds for the Yellow Ranger being Asian and the Black Ranger being black to be regarded with suspicion in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

See but this is part of the problem I can't think of anyone on Earth who would look like Goku. Otakus are already complaining about it.

Robert Downy Jr. looks like Tony Stark (acts like him too) who Earth would look like Goku?

think it easier to make movies about comic books rather than manga, for 3 reasons:
1) Comics are based on American themes, Manga is based on Japanese themes and Japaneses themes may not strike a cord with the American general audience, there is a whole translation issue that doesn't exist with adapting comics

2) Casting, most comic book characters are American and look like normal people, so casting is easy. Most manga characters are Japaneses, but they look nothing like Japanese people, so casting is hard, do you cast white super stars and give them Japanese names or do you cast Asian actors, considering there aren't a lot of Asian super stars in Hollywood.

3) Budget: Many popular American comics are more down to earth than the normally more fantasy based manga, which makes them easier to put on screen. Consider Iron Man and Gundam, Iron Man has one or two guys in humanoid armor, vs. Gundam which features several giant mechs, which one do think costs less to bring to the screen.

Also I would say an otaku fanbase is even harder to please than comic book fans.

Re: Dragonball Z live action !

Better quality scan

The girl at the bottom = Bulma , A little disappointed with Bulma as i expected a blueish/purple/turquoise coloured tint or streaks. I guess if they get to Cell saga trunks wont be purple haired :( Oh well the goku picture looks cool as hell more so in better quality
