Cause of this image.

Captain Universe's suit is that blue part. He doesn't change the outfit persay, just kinda overlaps it with the Uni-force power. The drive behind Captain Universe is the Uni-power. Gemini can probably explain it better than I could.

okay.

But he looks pretty similar here

and here

and the only difference here seems to be spidey-s mask on the mouth/chin

EDIT: okay, that middle picture is probably just a manip of the last one.

I'm not sure there is a point to Silver Surfer becoming Captain Universe. He's got to be almost as powerful.

I haven't read this arc, but I'm sensing a lot of nostaliga in the writing of it.

Out of curiousity, what do you guys think of Carlie Cooper?

I read this in trades so I'm behind, but the Electro Gauntlet story was really good. Haven't read the Sandman story yet, but seeing the Bugle destroyed was pretty major. I like the idea of Electro not being able to control his powers and they did a good job with it. And the Power to the People stuff was clever.

I really thought the Electro story was bland and cliche. I know not everyone agreed with me, but I really didn't like it. Mark Waid's Spider-Man continues to fall flat for me. Although the destruction of the DB was HUGE!

The Sandman and Rhino stories are by far the best in the Gauntlet arc. And the rest of it has been pretty good too.

I agree.

I liked what they did with Sandman in making him more...I dunno...sympathetic? But the story as a whole wasn't that great. Maybe because it was so short - wasn't it just one issue?

I just love villains that have some depth and complexity to them. That's why Harry as Green Goblin is my favourite villain, b/c i don't want him to be a villain, I want him and Peter to be friends. It adds so much to the conflict when you care about the good guy and the bad guy. If sandman and Rhino are just bruisers who want to rob the bank, the best you can hope for is some clever way for Spidey to beat them, but if you care about Sandman's daughter or are rooting for Rhino and Osanka, then you become so much more invested in the story.

I just realized how poorly reflects on Spider-Man 3.

So this issue #628 was clearly filler. Just by virtue of the fact that they couldn't stretch it out to fill the whole book and had to include a lame story of Peter trying to get to a job interview while fighting the Absorbing Man. But I'm interested to know what's going on.

Next week.

With it's quick releases, ASM can actually afford to have filler issues like this.

I do like the magazine feel of the book with back stories. It allows for a small break from the main story without having to try and put out another book or books. It also is nice for letting other artists and writers get some small work published.

I think my copy of #629 was missing some pages. There were really abrupt jumps in the story twice, once towards the beginning and once at the end of the main story/beginning of the back-up. The weird breaks were symmetrical from the centre (in other words the missing pages would have been one sheet).

That sucks, however it was a pretty good ending to the story with some nice twists, how come Roger Stern isn't writing comics anymore?

so why was the dude going to jump off a bridge? Juggernaut apologizes later for something he did to him, but my copy jumped from Captain Universe yelling "I'm going to make you suffer like you made me suffer!" to him talking about wanting to jump off a bridge and Juggernaut making fun of him for being a wimp.
