Ultimates 3 #1-5 discussion [Loeb/Madureira] [spoilers]

Re: Ultimates 3 #2 preview and interviews (spoilers i guess)

Oddly enough, Newsarama posted a positive review of U3#2 just today, that still acknowledged it won't be for everyone.
By 'everyone', did they mean 'human beings'?

Re: Ultimates 3 #2 preview and interviews (spoilers i guess)

The worst thing I've found about Ultimates 3, though, is what it means. I only got into comics recently. Like, just half a year ago. However, in that time I have amassed nearly every Ultimate comic to have been printed. I was one of the "New Readers" Marvel had attracted.

Comics are now my absolute favorite entertainment medium. I would take Hyperion vs Nighthawk over anything playing in the theaters now. And it's all thanks to the Ultimate line, especially the Ultimates Volumes one and two themselves. Now, though...

There are rumors that everything but Ultimate Spider-man will be done away with and awful books like Volume three have replaced the ones of old. The first issue of this series premiering just weeks after I bought my first Ultimate single issue.

I don't even know if I can stand to purchase the next issue... But if I don't, I've wasted a lot of money committing to something that really can't deliver anymore.

Also, seeing the new Hawkeye compared to the old one, who I thought was great and always well characterized, brings back memories of old childhood diseases.

Is this comic better or worse then the bad avengers cartoon from 1999?

Not for "everyone"? As in "Not for people who read and greatly enjoyed the first 2 volumes." Or "not for people who enjoy well written comics that stay within established continuity".

Everyday I become more and more mystified as to why Marvel is allowing Loeb to screw up one of their (if not THE) best titles.

I really need to know just who is reading this stuff and approving it to be released. Whoever it is really needs to be fired out of a cannon into a brick wall with Loeb.

Here's the Newsarama review:

I'll try to keep this short and sweet. If you liked the first issue, you'll like this even more. The action is less disjointed, the art looks gorgeous, with the color and printing issue clearly worked out. There are a couple of lines of somewhat silly dialogue that I'm sure the haters will latch onto, but overall, this took what I felt was a good start and made a great second chapter out of it. A couple of the smaller mysteries from the first issue are already solved, and with pretty logical explanations. A guest from the larger Ultimate Universe starts the issue, and a different guest ends it. Overall, this was a fun read, very much in theme with the first issue, and improved in almost every way from the first issue. If you didn't like the first issue, this one will be better for you, but you'll still have plenty to gripe about. The style, both writing and art, is the same as #1. That's gonna rock many people's worlds, and it'll anger a few, too, but it is what it is. For me, it's a great ride and issue 3 will be at the top of my read pile.

Re: Ultimates 3 Previews

why are his claws showing? It's not like we won't know who it is. Like yeah i so stupid, that could very well be cyclops or ******* quicksilver. They should just make it quicksilver and get this stupid little charade over with. I bet they don't even have the same mom.

Re: Ultimates 3 Previews

Am I only one who thought, "Wow, Scarlet Witch has got quite the backside," right after seeing that?

I honestly doubt that - the titles are still selling strong. Cancelling them wouldn't make much sense. The reason these rumours persist is because Loeb seems to have single-handedly been given the keys to the Ultimate universe (save Spidey). Bendis is doing his ULTIMATE ORIGIN which seems to be the last bit of the original Bendis/Millar/Quesada/Jemas hybrid that was the original ultiverse. Loeb is now ramping up his ULTIMATUM crossover which is supposed to be 'big', which is why he turned ULTIMATE POWER and ULTIMATES 3 both into set-ups for the crossover instead of them being stand-alone volumes, and he's taking over ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR to help set up the crossover. Then there's the usual hyperbole of who may die.

What I would expect is a bit of a shake-up in team status quos and the universe itself, but I'd be surprised if they did anything like cancel the books because, as I say, they sell well, and ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN is going nowhere.

Basically, Loeb 'finished' ULTIMATE POWER then did ULTIMATES 3, which are, perhaps, not just some of the worst Ultimate comics, but some of the worst comics ever - and the guy is, as I say, seemingly taking the Ultiverse in a 'new direction' and it's worrying because he's so ****ing dreadful.

I don't even know if I can stand to purchase the next issue... But if I don't, I've wasted a lot of money committing to something that really can't deliver anymore.

Don't pick up the next issue if you don't like it. That's a waste of money. Comics you bought and enjoyed are never a waste of money. You paid for them, you enjoyed them, and you can re-read them and enjoy them again. Buying comics you know you don't like just to 'complete the run' (I know this pain) is the true waste of money - and your time.

Honestly - instead of ULTIMATES 3 #3, pick up another comic. If you like the medium of comics as much as you do, try other comics. I'm sure you'll like them.

Some suggestions: THE SPIRIT, FELL, ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, and HELLBOY. All fun reads. If you want any other suggestions or an expansion on these, you can either check the threads for them, or ask me or another poster who reads 'em. Plenty of good comics out there. Spend your money on the ones you enjoy, not the ones you used to.

It's good to have you posting, Pearl! :D

I'm sure this man is speaking English, but he seems to have very different definitions for the words "Good", "Great", "Logical", and "Fun". Also, I assume "top of me read pile" is a euphemism.
