Ultimate Spiderman #101 discussion (Spoilers)

Also, I only felt the need to apologize because if you look on the first 3 pages, there was a lot of mention of anger/resentment to anyone who had anything favorable to say. Something along the lines of "I'm going to be really pissed when some fanboy gets on here and talks it up". That's why I felt the need to say what I did. At any rate, I skipped a lot of it because 20 pages of reading is well, a lot.

I'm guessing that all that was just talking about dealing with the "OMG Bendis is kewl!!!!!111" crowd. Thankfully we don't get much of that here.

There's a lot to be said about explaining why you like something, which you did just fine. Really, no need to apologize. :D

I'm here to see more of the he-sadi she-said business going down. Popcorn?
I haven't even read USM since issue twenty-something and I find this thread all kinds of entertaining.

*grabs entire bucket of popcorn and pours it down throat*

I definately agree with you there on the mj transforming thing. It's just unnecessary. He was doing FINE. He didn't need to do that. He didn't need to turn her into a goblin to get me to buy next issue. Seeing peter fight "Kaine" would have been more then enough, and a lot more rewarding. Sometimes one large fight is a lot better then 5 little events going on all at once.

Amazing how one thing could completely destroy an entire series

The MJ/Demogoblin transformation as a hallucination by Kaine: solution or cop-out?

Bearing in mind that 616 Kaine was prone to having hallucinations of the worst-case scenario.

Both actually. But this theory is my favorite. Anything to have MJ not be or ever have been Demogoblin is a good thing. At the same time that makes the end of this issue all the worse.

I think the only way to save Mj's character is to make her forget it ever happened, but for the rest of exsistence we the audience will have that horrible memory sticking out

wouldn't it be utterly hilarious and sickening if the clone saga ends with Peter waking up and saying "Wow, I dreamed I had spider-powers and Uncle Ben died, and I became a super-hero! Well, I'd better get to school!"

I concur.

If Bendis drops the dream sequence on us---I will drop the book and burn all 16 Volumes.

I'm serious. I know E's with me on this....

I very seriously doubt it'll happen. But, I am tempted to burn all of my collection anyways. . .

I wonder when Bendis will actually drop the book??? And I wonder if any miracelous writer will come to our rescue , and make USM as GREAT as it used to be!

I think that's what is going to happen to Aunt May - her heart attack (which might not even be a heart attack and could even be as stupid as something the Richard or Doc Ock planned...ugh) will inexplicably cause her to forget Peter's revelation.

I concur.

You'll be seeing someone make their Ultimate appearance that you never thought you'd see. It completely breaks a taboo of all Spider-Man stories that have com before it. I had to talk [Editor] Ralph [Macchio] off the ledge on this one.

this is what Bendis says in an interview. Now the whole "breaking the taboo" probably means giving Mj powers. Thus we were told all along, or given a hint to it.

I'm not defending Bendis, but I am pointing something out that I thought was interesting.

Well than he clearly doesnt understand why the taboo exists, so writers don't **** things up

Maybe Aunt May or MJ is going to die.

Probably Aunt May.

What he's done to MJ is so obviously temporary, that i sincerely doubt he had to talk anyone down about it.

Editors dont like deaths of Spider-man's supporting cast, because he doesnt have much of a supporting cast.

... Actually with some further thought, i'm guessing its Spider-Woman that got Macchio up in arms. A female Peter Parker brings up some weirdly possible scenarios that would make any editor of a comic slightly uncomfortable. It breaks a Taboo, and also ultimizes a character who exists in 616 with NO ties to her 616 character.

i think the whole thing is peters dream. the whole clone saga
It was the day-dream of a bored, autistic boy.

The Entire Ultimate Universe.

If you really think about it, it makes a lot of sense.

And then nothing extraordinary happens to him and we just watch the story of nerdy Peter Parker's boring-*** life for another hundred issues.

It is the highest selling comic book series ever.

Aunt May becomes a squirrel monster. I called it.
