That's when turning a hero's chick into a monster was "kewl". It's Saturday Morning Cartoon stuff.
But I like Legion of Super-Heroes....

Mary Jane. Is not. Supposed. To turn into. A giant. Hairy. Beast. Thing.
He has enough problems right now. How about if we toss in Tandy Bowen announcing she's gonna have Pete's kid. I mean wouldn't that also make for an interesting challenge? Weak sauce for debate omega. It's about quality not quanity.Exactly but she did which is why I'm interested. It makes an interesting challenge for how Peter will deal with it as well the incredible myriad of problems he is facing at the moment.

When it comes to Peter Parker, they're two things he will never have enough of....good looking girls and problems. Fate has never been kind to Peter when it comes to having problems. Particularly having them at exactly the wrong moment. Having Mary Jane being turned into a monster because a clone of Peter Parker took his fear of losing her one step too far....that's a challenge. Furthermore unlike your example, it has something to do with everything that's been happening in the story arc.
I really don't find the transformation to be that much of an issue, I mean how many of you remember Alicia Masters changing into a giant spider or Betty Ross mutating into a harpy? I'd assume none.
problem. The most appealing thing about Spider-man was that he was an everyman, People read it and enjoy the action and say "oh thats soo cool" Then he goes home and we say "Man I know exactly what he's going through" But making all this retarded crap happen ruins both sides. Bendis has gone farther and farther away from what made this book great. I get that your interested in what happens next but its so damn retarded
But these "challenges" that Bendis is making is complete crap. There are so many better ones already out there that he just ignores, like Peter's school problems, his job, etc. The great thing about Spider-man was that he always had a ton of problem at home and under the mask but there's no need to make those two the same damn problem.
What the hell does any of that have to do with MJ getting turned into an ugly monster? One thing I'm often reading around here about what was so good about the original whoever. Iron Man, Spider-man, etc. I agree with all of this and then some. However I like seeing new direction or breaking taboo every once in a while. This Ultimate Spider-man is 16 years old. He's not the experienced, been there, done that more times than you can remember, grown man who has a beautiful wife. He's a kid. Making "all this retarded crap" is Peter being a kid who is just starting to learn to keep up with the grown ups. He has girl problems, being the school geek problems, work problems, family problems, teenager problems and so forth. That's the everyman to me. But his life as Spider-man even though he himself is the everyman as a superhero (losing his costume, having his girlfriend make one for him, that situation with the Black Cat) his enemies were all kinds of crazy. This is a kid surrounded by people like Norman Osborn and the Kingpin. Even the people he trusted came back to bite him in the behind. But again, he's a kid. A teenager who has not yet learned how to keep his lives as Peter Parker and Spider-man separate or who exactly he should trust. As a consequence, we are seeing what we are seeing now.
is exactly what I'm complaining about. I want more of this and less MJ and Gwen turning into damn monsters. Aunt May, MJ, and for a short time Gwen were his normal life. Now 2 of them are monsters and the other is having a ****ing heart attack. Spiderman's everyman quality comes form actually being an everyman in his day to day life. If everyone he knows and cares for is a ****ing monster or died tragically than what the hell is everyman about that?He has girl problems, being the school geek problems, work problems, family problems, teenager problems and so forth. That's the everyman to me. But his life as Spider-man even though he himself is the everyman as a superhero (losing his costume, having his girlfriend make one for him, that situation with the Black Cat)

Well that's just sad. This issue doesn't deserve it.Three more posts and this beats "Bendis: "I smell an Ultimate Deadpool comin'" as the second longest thread in this subforum.
Sixteen more and this becomes the longest Ultimate Spider-Man thread on this website, beating "Upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man arcs"
Heh... All for an issue that all things considered, wasn't good enough or bad enough to warrant such a discussion.
But what the hey! Keep on truckin'
Don't you think your reaching a bit to find some reason why this horsecrap is acceptable as some kind of life lesson for Peter? Couldn't the same thing have been accomplished without ruining his supporting cast? In fact, wasn't that the point of Gwen dying in the Carnage arc? Did we need it repeated on MJ?Everything. Peter as a kid was a little careless with who he trusted with his blood. As a result, they're clones of him all over the city. This led to MJ getting turned into a ugly monster.
Um...everything.Yes, but like I said, as a teenager, he has not yet learned how to keep his lives as Peter Parker and Spider-man separate or who exactly he should trust. As a result, both lives are colliding very dangerously and thus affecting the people closest to him. What can be more everyman than that?

I'm going to stop arguing with you about whether or not the characters are ruined because we seem to be doing circles. Let's just agree to disagree there. There's always more than one way to do anything. As far as what we need, that's a matter of opinion. From my part, his supporting cast isn't ruined and yes and yes.

Yes it does, It deserves the outrage and the hate, my god the hate.McCheese said:Well that's just sad. This issue doesn't deserve it.
The thing is Bendis isn't showing/exploring/doing anything with that For the past 30 issues its been about Spider-man and not Peter Parker. He's taken the Everyman out of Peter Parker all that stuff you mention about costumes, work, school family he has barely done anything with and those are the aspects he should be working on. Peter is an average kid who lost his parents early in life and had to live with an extended family, when you turn that into CIA cover-ups, genetic weapons, clones (let me repeat this) CLONES, and everyone of your friends being turned into a monster that's just ****ing rediculus. Okay lets put aside the fact he ruined the best supporting character in the series, he already did the same crap twice, first when Eddies became Venom and now with Gwen being Carnage. The more I actually see it written before me the more retarded it sounds.
Bendis needs to either get back on track to what this comic great or get the **** away, anything to end this downward spiral of depression and retardedness

*applause*
McCheese said:But if you agree that this whole Peter's irresponsibility leading to bad things happening to people he cares about has already been covered in the Carnage arc then why did it need to be repeated? Was that arc, which was not good, (but I'm sure you'll tell me it was a masterpiece of modern fiction - just like UIM and Ultimate Deadpool:sick: ) really worth repeating on a grander scale and with more characters thrown under the bus for cheap shock value?

Wow I again realise just how retarded this whole thing is. Omega does have a point how its interesting to see a character overcome some many problems, in fact Stan Lee once said his problems in writing stories wasn't that he gave Peter too many problem it was that he couldn't think up enough problems.
