Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

I've never been more mixed about a comic ever. It was good but there were so many moments that I thought were ridiculous. Dr. Burbank better be a villain because who the **** says that? Seriousli? I thought that scene was good though. The crowd part in the beginning where everyone's throwing in their two cents... funny? Not at all. Pretty inappropriate I thought actually. What was really amazing was I read Cable/Deadpool right before this and the dialogue with USM and Deadpool were dead similar like I wasn't even missing a beat. Nick Fury has somehow been behind the entire thing? I don't know if I like it. The Thor enlightenment was exciting though.

I think Burbank was actually a little bit pissed at Reed, if not because of the death than because incompetence annoys Burbank and he'll die to, but he's too superior to reveal it by just saying "you're a jackass" so he decided to twist the knife.

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

Burbank is supposed to be like lex luthor...the whole squadron is just based off justice league if you didn't know. Hyperion often just hangs about in space...listening...to sound waves...in space..I didn't really like the convoluted way zarda spoke at the start of her convo with hyperion...but my god i thought land drew her just right. cheeky sexy evil little smile, manipulative *****.

Generally good issue, thor's dialogue was ****. For some reason i read cap's lines with a dr. spock voice..that might just've been me tho. I think the conspiracy thing is interesting..I doubt fury meant to kill the 10 million people.

Anyone else think wasp looked like a zombie on first page?

Going over issue 2 I notice thor has a line "thou wilt stand down or feel the wrath of --" ....I sure hope this isn't how he ends up talking after ultimates 3..maybe it wasn't jms slip up

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

I think Ultimate Power #4 was a lot better than the first 3, and I actually enjoyed it except the times Thor talked.
I really liked how the other heroes interacted with spider-man (and omg I actually enjoyed the mjolnir jokes), but I totally hate the way spidey is drawn.Even my spider-man looks better than this one.
Who was Fury talking to by the way? Can it be Stark?
(because if it's Stark some cool stuff might happen in the UU.

If it's in continuity it's in a real weird spot where
1 - people believe Thor is actually an asgardian god
(in this case it takes place after ultimates 2)
2 - nick fury has a real arm
(in this case it probably doesn't take place after ultimates 2)
3 - kitty and peter are together, and they seem to be happy
(in this case it takes place right after the USM annual)

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

Well, I have an opinion quite different from the rest I guess ...

I really didn't like the first issues of this series, too drawn out, nothing exciting happening. But this issue, I totally loved. I loved the interaction between spidey and fury, I loved the mjolnir joke (especially since I am norwegian and know how you'd pronounce it which is truly weird for english speaking people), I loved the revelation that it wasn't Reed's mistake - it was something Fury (and his people) added onto his design. And they fear Reed finding out just as much as they fear the people here.

All in all, it was a great setup for a decent ending, and I thought this was beyond saving after the first issues ... hehe.

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

Think if they save this and make it good...I'll be amazed...pleasantly

Incidentally is this gonna be Loeb's ultimate debut...being that ultimates keeps getting delayed...I figure the next 2 will be similar standard (if not better) to this one. The only thing of Loeb's I've read is Long Halloween, and batman/superman which i both liked..but we don't have any ultimate title to judge him by I'm guessing it could still go either way..this mini is far from saved at the minute.

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

Now, my question is like this. JMS hasn't written any Ultimate comics before, and his first forray, he makes Thor sound like 616 Thor.

Which hurts.

Now, the quesiton is, will Loeb follow the same vein, cause if he does, then we are screwed. Because, I hate the way 616 Thor talks, and the way Ultimate Thor talks, much better to me.

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

Well, of course this was the best issue yet. Everyone agrees on that.

Where did Thor get dimension-hopping powers from?

Someone other than bendis writing Spider-Man! That's a first and I'm a little surprised it happened.

I certainly hope the "going to other dimensions" thing does not go unremarked in his title.

Thor supposedly always had the dimension-hopping ability, it's just that no one believes he can do it, other than Tony Stark at one point. The biggest hint that Thor might actually be what he claims is at the end of the Ultimates Homeland Security arc, where he teleports the Chitauri bomb to whatever dimension houses Fafnir the dragon (a creature mentioned in Norse mythology). Given that the bomb was supposed to have been able to decimate the entire solar system when it went off, the general consensus is that Thor did indeed send it to a different dimension, and not just elsewhere on Earth.

If you count the novel The Tomorrow Men as being in continuity, there's an amusing scene where Stark ask Thor where he's been, because the answers are always so interesting, and Thor launches into this description of whatever dimension he'd just come from. (I don't have access to my books right now, so if you want actual names of dimensions, it will have to wait until I get home.) We also get a look at Thor's mental picture of Asgard, which is quite impressive.

Just a comment on Thor's use of English; it's been established in Ultimates that Thor was born and raised on Earth. Even if Norwegian is his primary language and English a second, he should have learned late 20th century English, not 16th century pseudo-Shakespearean English (or however you want to describe what he speaks in 616 Marvel). It would be interesting to hear why there's been a sudden switch in speech patterns (other than the possibility that the author didn't do his homework...).

Perhaps after work I'll amble down the street to my LCS and look this over. I don't suppose the women's costumes have improved any since the first issue, though. :|

Define "improved".

This is to Seldes, I didn't want to quote the whole post again:

I figured he could go to Asgard, but not necessarily another dimension. I completely forgot about the Chitauri thing. Thanks.

All in all, I guess I could say I actually liked this issue.

Not looking forward to Loeb though.

im-proved (ĭm∙prōōvd) v. 1. made of fabric other than skin-tight spandex, allowing for actual breathing and movement on the part of the wearer (see: intelligent design). 2. Cut in such a way as to leave something to the viewer's imagination; lacking holes whose sole purpose is to draw attention to cleavage and/or minute details of the wearer's anatomy (see: appropriate).

I'm going to be disappointed on this, aren't I? :?

A kind of related question: is it my imagination, or does Land like to draw people with their mouths wide open a lot? I've never seen so many people with such perfect dentition outside of his work….

You're welcome. Dropping random comments on Thor into conversations is a specialty, fortunately or un-.

Well, with the pictures he uses as reference those mouths are usually full, so he has to guess at what teeth look like.
