Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

When does this take place in continuity again? I'm so confused.

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

Nowhere. Ultimate Power is not in continuity. Shocking, but true.

Are you serious or just using your wit to try and make an observation about the confusingness of Ultimate Power?

Because if this is out of continuity, I'm going to go and jump around and sing and dance and stuff.

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

Isn't it supposed to be before the Clone Saga, but after Morbius. And that means it's after Ultimates 2, becuase we just found out that that had to happen sometime around Clone Saga. And it's before Cable, but after Magician, and before this and after Bendis got kicked off. And it takes place in a timewarp 20 years in the future where only Spidey's aged, got back with Kitty, and says 'Nicky-Poo'.
Plus, Thor recieved a degenerative brain condition that makes him talk reallt stupid. Fury is trying to be the next Bill Cosby.
And Ultimate Howard the Duck appears in UP 5.

It's supposed to be after Ultimates 3.

Which takes place a year after Ultimates 2.

I'm not kidding.

Well that's gay. Was it Bendis who said that? Because we know he's prone to lying, and being totally retarded.
So if Bendis says it, then we have a 80% of it being taken back.

Despite what Loeb said in that interview as to it taking place after Ultimates 3, there's just no way thats the case. If those were his intentions, fine, but Bendis chucked that right out the window with Kitty and Peter still dating in the second issue.

...and then in USM he almost immediately (within three months) has Peter break up with her...why even include her there to begin with? Just as a plot device to call in the Ultimate X-Men?

As it currently stands, this series has to take place very shortly after the conclusion of Ultimates 2. I haven't picked up this issue yet, so let me know if there's anything timeline-wise I'm missing from this issue.

To be fair, I've seen so many on again off again teenage romances that I wouldn't call it a stretch to have them get back together at a future date.

Fair enough, and if that were to happen it'd clear up the continuity mess this series has created.

However, I doubt thats going to happen at all, let alone any time soon. We'll see.

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

This is sad. I still think the idea overall is a great one, but it's being done so badly. I rather we'd have not had this at all.

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

Anyone want to post a summary? I mean the thread is marked Spoilers and I didn't get any other than Thor talks 616-style and Spider-Man was annoying. Oh, and Hyperion was ripping off Superman Returns. Fifteen posts besides mine in the thread and none of those containing anything that really count as a spoiler.

Come on, people, hook it up. Fill us in on the plot of the issue. Despite its crappyness, let me know if Fury and the Ultimate characters have a plan to get Reed back. Speaking of which, whats going on with Reed and the Squadron characters in the Supreme-verse?

Help us out people! Help this thread live up to its name!

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

There's only one way to solve this. Have the last issue end with Fury turning to everyone else and saying, "We most never speak of this shame again." "Agreed."

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

It was no masterpiece...

but it was WAY better than the first three issues.

Thor's 'talk' was silly, but Spidey sounded like Spidey for the first time in about 100 issues of USM!

I laughed in parts, liked the ending...

its almost like someone COMPLETELY different wrote this issue compared to the first three... y'know, like someone who agreed to write a book with friends, but realized one friend was being a jerk by writing a bunch of poop, and setting him up for failure, but then he came in and did a decent job with the poop he was given... like he cared that his name was attached to this project, instead of his friend, who just wants to slap his own name on anything, including the second issue (or was it the third) that was just one big confusing pointless fight, and it read in twenty seconds flat...the friend who is now OFFICIALLY the Michael Caine of comic writing.

"Oy. My how-chi-mama has p'dizzled all over the schmirtz... Oy vey"

-Michael Caine (or whatever his name is from the first three issues) writing 'dialogue' for the high-school aged, non-Jewish Peter Parker.

...and it doen't make it funny or self-aware after 80 issues to have him say "Oy - and I'm not even Jewish", like in issue 106. That's about as 'suave', knowing and clever as me saying "I meant to do that" after pooping my pants.

I think this is the best post of the night. Im glad Im going to sleep after reading this.

Re: Ultimate Power #4 Discussion (spoilers)

Please can we can a summary before the third page of posts starts? Please...?

What happened in this issue...? Someone, please, just a quick summary.

Lets see...the Suprmeverse people leave with Reed and Nick Fury is trying to set up a rescue with all of the people who were there for the stupid superhero fight. No one knows how to get to Supremeverse though. And then spidey's all like "lets use Thor's hammer to teleport us there. Noobs" and they're all like "He's so cool and smart LOL!" they then get on the hellicarrier and Thor says that they might all die. No one cares. Hyperion is sitting in space ala Superman Returns, and that one Supremeverse dude is telling Reed about how he's a mass murderer. Reed flips out and the guy puts him down with this magical electrocution thing. Back to the Hellicarrier, which seems to be completely devoid of SHIELD agents but...OMG Kitty is talking to Captain America. And you can see up Kitty's skirt!!!!11 And Cap tells Kitty to go and find Nick Fury. She starts walking through walls and stuff and apparently Nick Fury and his homies were behind everything or something. Some conspiracy that hasn't been explained yet. And then that one chick and Hyperion start talking about stuff in space. Hyperion flies down and um...starts fighting Thor in a big splash page with lots of lightning.

That is exactly what happened.

Best. Synopsis. Ever.

My favourite bit is "Thor says that they might all die. No one cares."

To expand on this... the Supremeverse guy is Dr. Burbank. He is asking Reed how he feels to know that he has killed nearly 10 million people. He compares Reed to Hitler and Stalin saying he will never get to talk to them and see how they felt so Reed will have to do. I like that Straczynski is writing this now because we get to see the characters they are supposed to be poke out.
Of course he stares at space ala Superman... He IS Superman. He's Superman if Superman was prick. And that is Zarda talking to him in space. She is trying to tell him that there are tons of people down there and he can hear them. That they need saving. He can't save them all because he loses his powers and she is trying to convince him to just save the ones who will be grateful and easy to control. She is basically prepping him for the world domination.
I liked it... it was by no means outstanding but it was a fun read. I think some people are a little to cynical and are probably only angry because it had Bendis attached to it at one point :p although the continuity errors are glaring.
I guess I just love when Straczynski writes Supremeverse.
and I will give the WTF to Thor's 616 dialouge.... looks like JMS forgot to do some homework :)
