Ultimate Marvel Timeline / Chronology (v. 3.0)

Wasn't the reason of Wolverine's absence in the Deadpool arc confirmed in Magical as the events of Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk?

No, not necessarily. Wolverine leaves the mansion and team all the time, sometimes for personal reasons, sometimes to take a job for Fury. Think about how many times we've seen him leave and then return to the team (most recently he left at the end of Return of the King, had his own arc in Blockbuster, and returned to the team by the end of that arc, and he left the team for an issue or so to take out that mutant kid for Fury...then again he left in Cry Wolf, then returned at the end of Shock and Awe...and again in the X-Men/FF two issue crossover, he's again just returning to the mansion). Anyway, there's nothing specific saying the reason he was gone in Deadpool was due to the events of Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk (though I think we can all safely assume that).

His conversation with Kitty proves it.

It proves Magical occurs after Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk, not that Deadpool occurs during it.

Another hint is that the X-Jet was destroyed after Magnetic North, and the Shi'ar were the ones who provided their replacement (in the Phoenix? arc), which was shown in Deadpool. The Deadpool arc has to occur between Phoenix? and Magical.

That is a good point though. Totally forgot about that. Anyway, just adjusted the timeline to reflect that.

Also, updated with the news of the Ultimate panel in terms of tentatively placing Ultimate Power, Ultimates 3 and 4, and the Ultimate Vision mini.

DIrishb-

Wanna chime in here on the awesome and monumental job you've done here. i've been systematically collecting the UU in trades and new issues for the past half a year and have used your helpful list as gospel. it certainly does highlight how the writers confound continuity here and there. like i just finished the galactus trilogy where black widow mentions iron man as her fiancee, but he doesn't even propose until ultimates 2. So, question, didja see that preview of USM annual 2? the post mentions that tv screen in the police station with a picture of spidey and "the colonel" or whatever he calls himself who's the leader of the liberators? so i agree that'd take place after ultimates 2?

or do you just reserve final placement until after the issue comes out?

Exactly that. I wait until the issue is out before placing it with any sort of finality, and even then later events in other books can cause that to change.

However, I do agree, it seems from the preview we saw that USM Annual #2 takes place during the invasion of America by the Liberators, and most likely will have to be placed somewhere during Ultimates 2 #9-13...It'll be easier to tell once we have some dialogue accompanying it. We'll know for sure on August 9th when the issue is released.

Better to wait than say something now. It might just as be a news report about what has happened in the last weeks. A thing like US gets invaded should in reality run on television on news reports and special programs for months.

Updated for UXM #73, Squadron Supreme #6, and Ultimate Spider-Man Annual #2 (and man was that a doozy).

Some will probably argue that in USM Annual #2, due to the background screens in the police station (which showcase some of the Liberators from the Ultimates 2) that this must occur during or after Ultimates 2, however due to many other reasons it simply cannot take place at this time (besides the obvious one of the city being and looking completely fine, which it couldn't possible after an attack of the scale in Ultimates 2). I'm looking at this as more of an Easter Egg type deal instead of a nod to continuity per se. I'll list more reasons tomorrow, but I'm dead tired right now, so it'll have to wait till then.

The problem with placing any of the Ultimates-related books is that we can easily figure out where they fit in relation to each other (MTU appearances, Volume 1, Six, Galactus Trilogy, Volume 2), it's pretty much impossible to figure out where they fit in relation to every other book. Damn shipping delays...

Indeed. I do my best, though. Actually, despite the delays, Ultimates is probably one of the easier books to place in relation to the others.

Hey,

Great work! Quick question:
Are the listed pages with or without commercials?

Cheers

Quick question, DB. Not sure if we discussed this but did we decide whether Exiles # 85 has an ultimate Wolverine of any kind [be it zombie or regular]?

I'm at the moment reading the ultimate universe in order (sorta) and I saw in Spider-Man Special a reference to a guy with iron arms. Is this Doc octavius? Because then that page should come after that arc right? At the moment it is listed in front off.

Maybe I'm wrong with the page listings, I'm from the Netherlands so I'm reading the scanned versions;)

Without the ads...after all, in the TPBs, there aren't ads in the book (maybe the last page or so for other Ultimate trades, but not littered throughout like the actual comics). This way people reading both the issues and trades can make sense of it.

I haven't read it, but I'm assuming that it wasn't Ultimate Wolverine (specifically). On the level of an easter egg, etc, it could be Ultimate Wolverine, but not in terms of continuity. Same reason the earlier issue of Exiles with the supposed Ultimate X-Men on a computer screen isn't included, and the reason that FF issue with all the various FF incarnations from different realities features the Ultimate FF.

It might look like them and even meant to be them by the artist/writer as a nod (or easter egg, like I said) to the Ultimate universe, but I don't consider it Ultimate canon.

Nah, you're right. But due to the other stuff happening in the USM Super Special, it must occur that way. The metal arms reference was supposed to be Doc Ock, but was a continuity error on Bendis' part, as Peter/Spidey hadn't come across Doc Ock yet. You'll notice plenty more errors like that as you go along, especially in the early issues of the Ultimate universe.

This timeline is merely a way to cut down on those somewhat and make sense of the continuity. As it stands now (especially with the early Ultimate issues), thats probably as best as it can get.
