The Social Thread: Houde Ain't Gettin' Some Tonight

There are very few modern comedies that I find funny. I didn't really like Anchorman or Zoolander either. If it's got Will Ferrel, Ben Stiller, Jack Black, or Steve Carrel in it, I generally have no interest unless it's a kid's/family movie (Night at the Museum, Elf, School of Rock). I feel like they try harder to be clever in those movies b/c they can't just make dirty jokes or act like morons like they do in their regular movies.

That's not to say there weren't parts of Zoolander and Anchorman that made me laugh - there were, but they didn't balance out the idoiocy and sex jokes. I watched Dinner for Schmucks the other day and felt the same way. There were funny parts in it, but over all it was dumb.

I guess I should mention that I don't find sex jokes unfunny just because I'm a prude. They just aren't clever. "You've got a massive erection" "Don't act like you're not impressed!" (Anchor Man) just isn't funny. Humour has to have a level of cleverness to it, sex jokes are usually easy and lame.

I agree with all of that but Tropic Thunder is one of my favorite comedies. I hate Ben Stiller but this movie was amazing. See it for Robert Downey Jr being black.

So this the first time I have signed in since July.

What has happened to me. I have been going to school and dealing with the stress of life. I declared bankruptcy and broke my mustang.

I also haven't read any current comics from when the new 52 started last year.

Hey Tog, good to see you again! Sorry to hear about life being stressful though.

Okay, well maybe I'll check it out some time then. All I've really heard about it is that There's a scene with Jack Black tied up and graphically offering to give some other dude a blow job if he untied him. That by itself was enough to make me think it wasn't worth seeing. But I did some research and apparently that scene isn't representative of the movie and is like 5 seconds long.

I also find excessive swearing unnecessary and distracting in movies though, but I'm more willing to overlook that.

Yes there is a lot of swearing but I think thats about the worst. Jack Black's character is a heroin addict but its making fun of hollywood crackheads.

Anchorman, Tropic Thunder and Zoolander are classics.

This thread has ads for diapers in it.

If anyone cares. The new upgrade for your xbox, window 8 is available. I'm posting from my xbox now. It's a little awkward to use even with the chatpad.

This is just in the next city over:

It's pretty crazy that we're getting the effects of it even here in MI. Winds started up last night and went all throughout the night. Pretty consistent gusts of 50 mph+

Power has been out here in my city since about quarter to 8. The station was said to e de-energized in case of flooding. It's almost 6 pm and still no power back on yet.

I didn't lose power at all. Although other parts of Toronto did and apparently a woman died when she got hit by a sign that ripped off of a building downtown. My brother told me that... It may not be completely true.

I meant to say quarter to 8 yesterday. Almost 9 pm and not power still, even though they said they were starting to turn the stations back on earlier today.

Schools will be once again closed tomorrow here. Already lost 3 days of work I won't be getting back.

It's like he didn't even care if it ever came back on.
