The Social Thread: Houde Ain't Gettin' Some Tonight

Cool! Gotta love the sensation of walking into a brick and mortar shop. Digital comics are great and all, but they certainly lack that uber feeling of geekdom that we all probably get when walking into an actual comic shop. Plus no awesome assortment of action figures in the digital realm.

One week until I go in for LASIK surgery.

I'm very excited because my vision is so bad and I'm tired of glasses and contacts. I'm a little worried because there is always a chance that it won't correct it completely enough and I will still need them.

Dudes.

LASIK is so awesome.

My vision was worse than 20/200. Today, the day after my surgery, it's 20/10. It's amazing. There is very little discomfort and no pain.

I'm so amazed that medical science is able to conceive and execute something like this.

Nice. I'll be truly impressed when medical science is capable of giving people X-ray vision. Been considering LASIK for awhile, but my vision isn't too bad yet, thankfully.

So i thought I was going to get beat up at the movie theatre the other day. I went to see Dark Knight Rises again b/c my brothers and brother-in-law hadn't seen it yet so I went with them. But this loud mouth guy in the row behind me kept talking and being obnoxious. I wanted to ask him to "please stop talking" but i let it go for a while so by the time i finally said something i was kind of pissed off and it came out, "Hey man, SHUT UP!" He had some things to say back to me. But then he shut up....and he didn't beat me up in the parking lot afterwards, which i appreciated.

We had the party last week and you never showed up.

Well it's the last day of my vacation. I decided to do a staycation. So all I did was stay home most of the week did a "Walking Dead" marathon, Saw a few movies with family and friends, and just yesterday my brother invited me and my family to his cabin for the holiday. Where I got to hang out with Adam Zadel (of the band Soil) and his Fiancé. He was pretty cool.

The ad at the top of the comic board today was a dating site for older men. There were a bunch of pictures of women and the catch phrase was "We aren't interesting in young men. We want YOU!"

that's similar to Marvel's marketing strategy.

There are very few modern comedies that I find funny. I didn't really like Anchorman or Zoolander either. If it's got Will Ferrel, Ben Stiller, Jack Black, or Steve Carrel in it, I generally have no interest unless it's a kid's/family movie (Night at the Museum, Elf, School of Rock). I feel like they try harder to be clever in those movies b/c they can't just make dirty jokes or act like morons like they do in their regular movies.

That's not to say there weren't parts of Zoolander and Anchorman that made me laugh - there were, but they didn't balance out the idoiocy and sex jokes. I watched Dinner for Schmucks the other day and felt the same way. There were funny parts in it, but over all it was dumb.

I guess I should mention that I don't find sex jokes unfunny just because I'm a prude. They just aren't clever. "You've got a massive erection" "Don't act like you're not impressed!" (Anchor Man) just isn't funny. Humour has to have a level of cleverness to it, sex jokes are usually easy and lame.
