The Social Thread: Houde Ain't Gettin' Some Tonight

The fireworks were boring. I'm glad my kids like them, but I just can't get anything out of it.

The Bay City fireworks are supposed to be set to music but they don't think to station speakers all over the place, so because of the delay in sound travel it just doesn't really work.

I hate saying anything because my kids really like them, but it just feels like a huge waste of time. I would rather have gone to see Amazing Spider-Man.

The lake party, on the other hand, was a blast. It cooled off so it wasn't too hot, and I went tubing for the first time with my 6 year old. Very fun, even though I already feel like my arms are going to fall off.

I come home from work and find out that my dog is currently getting operated on because our neighbor's pitbull somehow came in to our property and bit his leg. This happened about 3 hours ago and cops still have not shown up. Typical.

When a cop finally showed last night I heard the full story. The vet has to take skin grafts to replace on my dog's left leg and reconstruct the tendons. He spent the night there and we'll find out how things went around 9:30 this morning. The waiting is a killer...

Yeah, hope he's OK. I'd be freaking out at the thought of that vet bill, though. Yikes.

Canada doesn't have the 4th of July and therefore does not have fireworks.

nope, we skipt right from July 3rd to July 5th. Then we add another day to February to make up for it. We have fireworks at the beach on February 29th/30th (depending on if it's a leap year)

Anyway

how's your dog doing Ice?

He's back home now and everything came out better than we all expected. From what the vet said, we (of course) feared for the worst (him getting his leg amputated). Worst thing was that my dog lost one nail and another is loose. His leg looks fine for what happened, just that he, as would be expected, can't jump around or run around for a few weeks or so- giver or take. He has his meds that he'll have to take and is just resting. I knew he would be fine when I was told he wanted to jump out of the nurse's arm and into my father's, out of pure joy of seeing my father again.

Thanks everyone for the concerns and well wishes. I was out of it all day waiting for news. Now just hopefully the cops can find the SOB who let this happened.

I HATE fireworks. I mean, I really, really hate them. I can't think of a more pointless waste of time. And to drive over an hour to sit in a crowded park in 100 degree heat to watch them...it's possible I might kill myself tomorrow, if this doesn't get rained out.

San Diego's ENTIRE fireworks show somehow ended up going off all at once this year. (You should turn down your volume before clicking play...)

I'm really excited. I've got an evaluation scheduled at the end of the moth for Lasik surgery. It's something I've wanted for a really long time but it was too expensive. Now that my wife works for a hospital it's a lot more doable.

The only issue is that I'm a huge baby about my eyes. I FORCED myself into contacts because I hated glasses so much, but I've got a big hangup about things going in or near my eyes. I have no idea how I'm going to handle my eye being clamped open and a huge robot coming at me with a laser, but I just have to psyche myself up for it.

I can't even imagine what it will be like to wake up in the morning and not have to reach for glasses to see. That will be amazing.

I expect you to handle it with death, Mr. Bond!!

I'm just glad we're past the date for Skynet to come online. I wouldn't trust a robot with a laser in my eye if that were still a possibility.

You should like me. I want to do this.

"LASER"

So I think I'm going to take a sabbatical from the comic board until September. I'm going to be away for most of August anyway, so the time seems appropriate.

See ya in just over a month!

Honestly, though. Now that I have thecomicboard app on my phone and ipad, i may not follow through on this.
