The Social Thread: Houde Ain't Gettin' Some Tonight

Finally got my tax returns. I know what I'm going to do with it. But here's a question for you guys. For those of you that do get a return. What will/have you spent on it?

For me: Pay some bills, buy some Turtle Beach Programmable Wireless Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound + Wireless Chat Ear Force XP500 for my Xbox, and maybe one or two games.

and maybe this...

Those are awesome.

I used my return, to have a custom corset I designed, made. Used a bit to invest more for retirement, used the rest to buy a 24" Cintiq.

I was going to start a new thread, but most of you will have already seen me flipping out on my social sites.

Mark Beachum (Green Lantern: Mosaic, Penthouse Comix, Vampirella, etc) drew my alien species. I'm like having the biggest nerdgasm in the world. He completely surprised me with it tonight.

Linked due to nudity

So I recently started my masters degree part time. It's a three year program, 90 credit hours and it will probably take me 5-6 years to complete at the rate I'm going now. I just handed in my last assignment for one of the two classes I've been taking meaning I'm officially done my first masters level course, which is a big deal for me. Assuming I don't get any advanced standing (which I probably will), I only have 28.5 courses to go until I'm done.

...yay.

We had some ruff weather here yesterday. I'm at my church right now posting this. It was a micro-burst. Could not see out my window past two feet. Hit hard and fast knock out all the power in town. The Mayor said, it might take 6 to 10 days before power is restored. So no air, no TV, no xbox, no net till then. My parents have a huge yard with about 15 trees on it. And almost all of them are totaled. One just missed my car by three feet.

The weather has been pretty crazy here in MI and really the entire eastern portion of the US. We've had near-drought conditions the last couple weeks or so and it's been mid-90s and humid, and this morning we had a torrential downpour. There's been a lot of power outages but I don't think it's affected us nearly as much as to the south and southeast of us.

Storms even took down several major data centers in Virginia a few days ago and knocked out several major websites.

Things have been normal here In CT. High 80-90 degree weather days, but nothing like other places. Hope everything turns out better.

Finally got my power back on. It got up to the triple digets here the last few days. So I had to go and stay over at my brother's house. But now I'm back home got my power and all my connections up and running.

It was 100+ here today and will be tomorrow, too. And I've got a lake party thing to go to tomorrow and fireworks.

I HATE fireworks. I mean, I really, really hate them. I can't think of a more pointless waste of time. And to drive over an hour to sit in a crowded park in 100 degree heat to watch them...it's possible I might kill myself tomorrow, if this doesn't get rained out.

I wish I was as good at being grumpy as you are...

I like fireworks, but I will never go to a park to see them again. The worst thing is the traffic back out. Forget it. I'll just watch them on TV on NBC as I do every year.

I'm not grumpy. I just hate fireworks and heat. Put them together...

Maybe I'll get lucky and die in my sleep tonight.

I wish to recant my previous assertion that I can't think of a bigger waste of time than watching fireworks. Watching fireworks on TV is much, much worse.

And this is the Bay City, MI 4th of July fireworks. As fireworks go, it's a pretty major event. There are a LOT of people It can easily turn into a 2 and a half hour ride home instead of the regular 1.

I don't LOVE fireworks, but they're okay. I certainly wouldn't drive an hour to go see them (or watch them on tv, that's kind of lame), but all I have to do is walk 15 minutes to the beach and I can watch a pretty well put together show (there were smiley face fireworks this year...how do they do that?!?), so I do that most years.

Canada doesn't have the 4th of July and therefore does not have fireworks.
