The Apple Products Thread

The little that I've seen about the tablet looks pretty cool. I can't see myself getting into it mostly because I don't like reading off a screen that much. I'd rather read a hard copy.

Yeah, that's my own problem. I love the feel of paper, and the heft of a book, but with that said, I'd love one for my school books. Cutting down about 18lbs of books to 1.5lbs of tablet would be golden.

yeah, i can see how that would be convenient.

And the idea mentioned above about your comic pull list being automatically downloaded each week sparks my interest too.
Some comics I want to collect and own. Others I'd just like to read, if they could provide a way for us to 'rent' new comics online for cheaper than it costs to own them then I'd be interested and this tablet would be pretty ideal for that.

But still, for long reads (ie books or text books) i feel like my eyes would get tired reading them off a screen much more quickly than they would off a page.

Oh, call it whatever you like. I'm not trying to speak for him. Whether or not he feels berated you're knocking statements like "people who like iPads have no common sense" while making statements like "people who don't like iPads have no imagination or are jealous". Both are insults, so you make no sense.

I'll tell you what doesn't make sense - posting in a thread discussing something you have zero interest in and offer nothing in the way of discussion.

probably wasn't the best use of their resources right now.

Also, that makes no sense.

I'd rather read a hard copy.

Same here. I still buy TPBs/hardcovers when they come out and prefer them, but I do like being able to open up a file and read something to kill time. The prospect of putting a bunch of comics on a device like this to have on the go - not having to carry around a ton of actual books - is very appealing.

I have zero interest in buying one myself. I have plenty interest in how society responds to new technologies and services.

Not that your blatant double-standard about insults back there would be excused either way.

How about everyone just focuses on the discussion at hand instead of who insulted what and how because that's obviously not going anywhere. Move the hell away from that already.

Kinda had an idea, I buy vinyl LPs, and most of the new ones come with free digital downloads, would be awesome in comics and books.

DRM-free and in an open format, of course.

iPad, this is what people in Boston have been calling the iPod all along!

hahaha

you have to stop, I can't quote everybody in my sig.

I read earlier that some japanese company is threatening to sue(if not already) because they came out with a product called the ipad back in '00/'03. I don't know if that holds any weight considering one company is based in japan and the other stateside.

There's a good chance the Fujitsu suit will fail before it reaches the ITC trial, as their iPad was a phone and the Apple iPad is not. Secondly, it's painfully obvious that Fujitsu was ripping off Apple's iName system.

Apple's getting a lot of crap for not allowing Flash on the iPhone and iPad.

I can see both sides of it. On one hand, there are tons of websites that use Flash and it's pretty essential to the web experience, as Apple likes to advertise they are providing. At this point in time, you need Flash. Having a Youtube app to replace it is cool but there are TONS of other sites that aren't Youtube that use Flash for video. HTML 5 lets you embed video but what about games and sites that run on Flash?

On the other hand, I like that they are forcing and helping usher early adaption of HTML 5 and helping eliminate proprietary applications like Flash. And Flash totally blows - it's a resource hog, it's too buggy to be used to the extent that it is, and is basically too crappy to put on a device with lower memory and processing power.
