The Apple Products Thread

Hurhur, funny. I get it, "no Flash". Personally, I don't miss flash in the least, if it's that BFD then don't buy an Apple small media device.

Oh, and get back to me when your Android/Palm/WinMo device gets 10+ hours of use on a charge.

Me either. I develop web sites for a living and barely touch Flash. The web's reliance on it is scary, especially considering how badly it kills SEO.

In other news, release date for the iPad 3G plzkthnxbye

Holy ****!

Someone's getting secretly killed by Steve Jobs for this one.

I wouldn't hold my breath on this one, people don't seem to realize that with the iPhone and iPad, there are about a dozen physical designs per generation, according to Jon Ives (lead designer). While I'm sure the guts (front facing camera, higher res screen, larger battery) will most likely be there, the final form factor may not. People have short memories, the leaked iPad and 3rd Gen iPod touch, yeah they both had cameras that didn't make it to final production.

As to the poor schmuck who lost the prototype, he's still working for Apple. (Tho, I'm sure he wishes he was fired)

I'm not holding my breath for anything, I just think it's amazing that something I'd assume would be under such tight security could be left behind at some bar like any teenager's cell.

It's not really that surprising, Apple does "in field" testing like everyone else. Most companies lose millions in lost prototypes every year. The only thing that really makes this any different is that Apple tends to keep announcements close to the chest until release time.

And this isn't the first time an iPhone prototype to be lost either. A taiwanese engineer lost his 4th gen prototype last year, and threw himself from his apartment window to his death.

My initial post was a quip about the guy who lost it ending up dead.... your response is that it's no big deal, even though the only other guy it happened to ACTUALLY DID end up dying over it?

Did I say it's not big deal that a guy killed himself, I didn't see that part of my comment. I was saying, in the grand scheme of things, it's not big enough t.... nevermind, I'll just let you twist what I said so you can feel better about yourself.

To what? It resulting in a man's death is the ONLY thing I said in my first post, and in jest at that, so what were you rebutting?

Look, this is probably just a misunderstanding, so I'll try to clear up what I don't get here:

I'm not accusing you of saying the guy's death was no big deal, I'm asking why you don't think the lost iPhone prototype is a big deal given that the last guy who lost one KILLED HIMSELF.

In my first post, I was surprised at a prototype Apple product, which they pride themselves on dramatically unveiling in hyped events, being accidentally unveiled months early. I joked that a guy was going to die over it.

That's it. No speculation over Apple being screwed, losing money, this being unprecedented. A quip about the guy who lost it getting killed.

You rebutted any of this being a big deal because the final product could be different(I never said it couldn't), companies lose products all the time(but we're only talking about Apple, who doesn't), etc. But then you revealed that the last guy who lost an iPhone prototype ACTUALLY DID kill himself over it, so I don't get why would you tell me "I wouldn't hold my breath" in the first place. Why shouldn't I then, if that's what actually happened? If losing an iPhone prototype isn't such a big deal, why did a guy throw himself out of a window over it? Were you telling me not to hold my breath over something else? I didn't say anything else. I don't get where you're coming from or why you felt the need to rebut me in the first place.

nevermind, I'll just let you twist what I said so you can feel better about yourself.

Feel better about myself. Over an argument about a possible future iPhone brought on by seemingly nothing. Feel better about myself.

:dazed:

That is not anything close to what she said or hinted at. This is exactly the kind of thing you do that has caused trouble in the past; grasping for anything you can find in order to get a reaction.

Stop trolling.

Read what I added to the post above(before I saw you'd already replied, so my apologies): I'm trying to make this clear once and for all, and I can see how it could be taken otherwise, but I am not saying she said the guy's death isn't a big deal, I'm saying I don't get why she's saying the leak isn't a big deal or not to hold my breath until the guy who lost it dies(which I said in jest in the first place), given that the only other guy who lost one ACTUALLY DID die.

Over the last week and a half or so I've been going through my iTunes library and cleaning house. I removed 35+ GB of music I didn't care to have in there anymore and updated album art to high-res images. The high-res images ate hard drive space like crazy which is why I had to eliminate some music but it needed to be done anyway.

iTunes has it's problems but It's the best music management software I've ever used.

So I got an iPad a couple weeks ago, and it's a pretty great little device. But the best thing it does is display comics.

This thing is an absolute glorious comic reader. If that's all that it did, it would be worth the price. It's way better than trying to read comics on an iPhone - the display is just slightly smaller than the size of an actual comic so it's easy to read them without having to constantly zoom in and out and scroll, etc. Transferring books to the device is super easy - you can do it right in iTunes. The iPhone apps I've used in the past require you to install optimizing software on your computer and transfer them over wifi - slow and annoying.

I'm experiencing a renewed interest in comics lately thanks to the iPad. Over the last couple weeks or so I've easily read 10-20 books a day. I never read that much. Right now I'm reading through the entire Blackest Night saga, but I just got done re-reading some old Iron Man, All-Star Superman, Godland, Earth X, and a ton of minis.

I've been pondering one, I'll have to wait until after I get my Cintiq paid off. As much as I can't give up paper trades, the idea of being able to put some comics and books in the iPad before a road trip or family function makes it worth the price alone.

Which did you get, the WiFi or 3G+WiFi model?

3G+WiFi. The WiFi model seemed like a waste, and with all of the web-based work I have to do I wanted to have the connectivity if I needed it.

I'm not giving up paper trades at all - I enjoy the collecting aspect of comics. But things are a whole lot easier to read this way.

Thanks bunches, definitely getting one now. Loved the feel and the look, just hadn't had a real chance to read on them.

I read a ton on them and played around with them at Best Buy & Apple stores. There are misinformed morons who say it's nothing but a big iPod Touch or (my favorite) a big iPhone, but it really isn't. The larger screen alone makes for better web browsing, not to mention the faster processor which renders apps much faster and better. And the native apps are pretty amazing even though it seems developers are a little slow to get apps written for it.

But yeah, the comics reading apps (2 really good ones are free!) make it worth the price alone.

The comic apps, I'm assuming (hoping) that they're just .CBR readers? (or even PDF)
