The Apple Products Thread

The comic apps, I'm assuming (hoping) that they're just .CBR readers? (or even PDF)

Yes. The ones I use read CBR, CBZ, PDF, and I believe another format or two. Being able to upload using iTunes is a huge plus. I don't know if you ever tried to upload comics to an iPhone/iPod touch (not download directly to the device via an "official" app) but it was a pain to say the least.

Teh Intarwebz is aghast at the news that AT&T is eliminating the unlimited iPhone/iPad data plan and introducing 2 plans - 200 MB for $15 and 2 GB for $25.

I'm actually secretly glad at this. My wife doesn't use a lot of data and I can bump her plan down to the $15/mo option, and I haven't gone over 400 MB on mine in at least the last 6 mos. So there's $20 off my bill every month.

But I do hate the idea of having to watch my data usage to make sure I don't go over my limit.

Yeah, was thinking the exact same thing. The nice thing is, since you're (as I am as well) a current Unlimited Plan subscriber, we can keep the Unlimited Plan. It's the new subscribers that won't be able to get the Unlimited Plan. Altho, "Unlimited" is a bit of a misnomer, apparently there's a hidden cap of 5GB on it.

I'm looking at my last year's worth of usage, the most I've used was 712MB. That was when we'd had a flood and were staying at my gramma's.

The most I have used is about 200 MB. I wonder if I should lower it.

The service the last few weeks for AT&T has been even more ****ty then usual. I hope they switch carriers soon.

Apple is in contracts with AT&T through 2012.

I thought this was just a rumor or isn't true any more. My understanding was that the contract that ran through 2012 was renegotiated so that AT&T could get the iPad.

Sometimes I think I'm the only iPhone user who doesn't really have problems with AT&T's service. Sure, I get dropped calls every once in a while but no more than when I was on Verizon a number of years ago.

Not sure if it was renegotiated. I just saw that because of articles talking about Verizon and iPhones and how that wasn't happening because of many reasons, one being the aforementioned contract.

Yeah, I get zero dropped calls on AT&T. In my neck of the woods, Verizon screwed up and stopped paying leases to Sprint and AT&T to piggyback on their towers, thinking they'd get the okay to build new ones. Not only did they no get the okay from the city, the land owners refused to sell/lease. Now, there's zero Verizon service in most of the county.

Hey look, it's WWDC 2010!

Steve's looking healthy, he's put on a few pounds since his liver transplant last year.

He's talking about iPad stuff right now. According to their numbers, they're selling an iPad every 3 seconds. They've already broken the 2 million unit mark.

8500 iPad Apps, that have had 35 million unique downloads (average of 17 apps per iPad).

5 million iBooks downloaded in the first 65 days (which makes Apple's iBooks about 20% of all eBook sales). They seem to be planning a few little changes/added functions for the iBooks app; native PDF viewing, added functionality in bookmarks and notes.

New App Store rules for content creators, the big one is a free to use HTML5-based App creator. Secondly, a more defined set of rules for App Store rejection. (finally)

(Sidenote, according to The Steve, the App Store gets 15,000 app submissions A WEEK)

Aaaaand Netflix for the iPhone/Touch/iPad has just been announced. (you people really want me to be poor, don't you)

Ugh, Zygna just announced, all their flash games (Farmville, etc) will be coming to the iPhone. Apparently, the iPhone versions will synch with the Facebook versions of the game. *eyerolls*

Activision announced a Guitar Hero for the iPhone/Touch. huh... only $3

Wow, developers for the App Store broke the $1bn mark for revenue.

Here comes iPhone news!

LOL! Steve: "I don't know if you've seen it yet." (re: the iPhone 4)

O_O it's 24% thinner than the 3Gs, making it the thinnest smartphone, ever, at 9.3mm

Like the leaked model Giz had; front facing cam, hi-res IPS display. Things Giz didn't figure out; noise canceling 2nd mic, and the metal frame of the phone are two antennae (hence the lines).

3Gs on left, iPhone 4.0 on the right

ooo the frame is stainless steel, not aluminum. The back is a glass composite. The display is one of the new Retina displays, it produces a 326ppi resolution, the human eye tops out at 300ppi. So reading on this will be like reading a printed page.

Aaaand they're having a network problem (the WiFi in the room is being used by... well... everyone).

the new display is 960x640 w/ 800:1 contrast ratio.

Looks like it has the same A4 chip that the iPad has (YAY!). Better battery life; 7 hours of 3G talk, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of WiFi browsing, 10 hours of video, 40 hours of music. 300 Hours of standby.

Quad band HSDPA, 7.2Mbps. Dual mics, 802.11n WiFi (YAY!!), GPS, compass, accelerometer. They added a gyroscope for six-axis accelerometer control (think PS3 controller).

Camera is now 5MP with a back sensor illumination (for low light), 5x digital zoom, tap to focus and LED flash. O_O records 720p video @ 30fps.

iMovie for the iPhone. You can edit directly on the phone, and even add music and photos (for the Ken Burns effect). $5

LOL! Oh Steve, you rascal; "Isn't that awesome? So iMovie for iPhone... you'll be able to buy this for $4.99... if we approve it."

iPhone OS has been renamed iOS (makes sense since it's on the iPhone, Touch AND iPad as well as rumored to be headed to the AppleTV).

Multitasking (duh), Folders (again, duh), custom wallpaper, enhanced notifications.

They added Bing as a search engine.

Bleh, "it'll be out soon". Was kinda hoping to see it released today.

the 100 millionth iOS device will sell this month. That's an amazing number. 100 million in 3 years.

Woohoo!! The iBook Store for iPhone4! Ooooo, you'll be able to buy on one device, redownload for free on another, and wirelessly sync your notes/bookmarks/etc between them.

Stuff about iAd (suck it Google)

OOOO One more thing... (he hasn't done one in like forever)

FaceTime, real time video conferencing. Steve's currently talking to the award winning, master designer Jonny Ives. Looks pretty damn amazing. It's WiFi only (like Skype), zero setup, iPhone4 to iPhone4.

Steve made a "subtle" jab at AT&T, saying he would like to see it on 3G by the end of summer.

Oh snap, you can flip which camera is being used in FaceTime, on the fly. *Tears up a little* One of the scenes from the commercial is two people using FaceTime to communicate via ASL.

Pricing: $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB (kinda sad that there wasn't a space boost, but 64GB of NAND is still expensive)

Choice of two colors, black or white

apple-wwdc-2010-388-rm-eng.jpg

Oh snap!! if your contract expires any time in 2010, you are automatically eligible for upgrade.

Preorders start on the 15th, they go on sale on the 24th

The 8GB 3GS will remain for sale at $99.

iOS4 will be a free upgrade to all. (except for iPod Touch 1st gen, it doesn't work on it)

So, looks like we have a new iPhone and OS too be excited for.

I'm definitely preordering the white 32GB.

I have a white 3G and preferred it to the black one - it hides smudges better.

But I don't think I like the all-white 4. I think I'll go with black.

I can't seem to find it right now, but didn't he say FaceTime is open source? Meaning we could have it on Android phones as well?

Yes, yes he did, and yes, yes we could.

And at one point he said "Other FaceTime enabled devices". So possibly even so far as computers, tablets, other smartphones.

Can it sync up with YouFace and the Tweeter?

Y'know, i keep comparing the pictures of the resolution difference between the 3Gs and the iPhone4, that alone is making me drool over the new iPhone. The A4 CPU doesn't hurt either

This is the best thing I have ever seen:
