The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Loves Crappy Variant Covers

Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Mole Is Reading Watchmen?!

Marvels Sequel coming in December.

I would normally be against the idea of doing a sequel to Marvels but the idea makes sense and Busiek is still writing it. Too bad Ross can't do the art again, but then it would probably take another six years to finish.

That's good that Busiek's writing, but without Ross it just won't be the same.

Does anyone know anything about American Jesus, the sequel to Chosen?

That site has all sorts of analysis on works by Moore, Gaiman, BKV etc. It's really cool. The articles are massive though.

Damn you, Proj. I've been sucked in.

I'm reading about how comics and graphic novels are just the ultimate artistic expression of the principles of four dimensionality first used by cubists and futurists. This stuff is great.

Anybody know when Invincible: The Ultimate Collection Vol. 4 is coming out,? Amazon had it dated for a few days ago, but than they changed it to not having a release date.

Link? I've googled it but I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for.

I just saw a DC advertisement on Marvel's site. It was surreal.

Crap, they seem to have finally shut down.

You might be able to find it through The Wayback Machine though.

It was basically an overly erudite webzine on comics featuring writers like Shannon Wheeler, Yusuf Bulent and Paul O'Brien following the comics industry with both cynicism and optimism, however weird that might sound. My favorite column was Rob Vollmar's "The Occidental Tourist." They officially ceased publishing over a year or two ago, but they were keeping the site up for historical purposes.

Mark Millar's War Heroes is indeed awesome and should've been the plot for Ultimates3.

Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Mole Is Reading Watchmen?!

OK... this is totally awesome...

I met John Cassaday tonight, he came into my bar and had some drinks. Apparently he's been by before but I wasn't working or something. He gave me his credit card to start a tab with and I said "man, do you draw comics?".

Really, really cool guy. I didn't know he was from around the Ft. Worth area. Had a lengthy conversation with him about comics and stuff since it was slowing down, he said he'll be coming back by. I've got to figure out which one of his books to have him autograph, probably an issue of Astonishing X-Men or Lone Ranger #1. Not sure. Any suggestions?

This was pretty cool since I don't usually get to meet folks from the industry outside of conventions and whatnot, much less have them come into my bar and take shots with me, and especially when it's one of the best artists in the industry right now.

Fanboy moment over.

No sir, but that would've been cool too. We have Bass Ale on draft at the bar so I would've made a long-running joke about "Hey Bass, would you like a Bass?" and we all would've had a good laugh over that.

No, Mr. Cassaday was rolling solo. His cousin works at the bar next door and since he's from this area, he's got other family in these parts. He even invited me to his Christmas party later on this year at a popular local BBQ joint, which I wholeheartedly accepted.

Mr. Cassaday is a seriously nice guy. I've met other writers and artists in the past and MOST of them have been cool, but not John Cassaday cool. We talked for a good hour about old Larry Hama GI Joe comics, the greatness of Warren Ellis (he said he's almost done with the last issue of Planetary, by the way) and how the mid-90's almost killed the industry.

He's a class act, John Cassaday.

But I'm still trying to figure out if I should have him autograph an issue of Astonishing, an issue of Planetary, or an issue of Lone Ranger. Again, suggestions? My top choice at the moment is the awesome de-powered Cyclops cover from Astonishing.
