The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Loves Crappy Variant Covers

Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Is Reading Watchmen?!

Fantastic Four: True Story is the best FF tale I have read in quite some time.

"Is that Lindsey Lohan?"

"Good thing she's on our side."
I was a little on the fence about picking this up in trade, but now you've sold it. :p

Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Is Reading Watchmen?!

Nice! Just opened up "Batman - Death Mask" to look at. I thought the cover looked great but was surprised when I opened it to find out it was more like a Manga (no idea if actually IS a Manga or an american comic artist trying to do do one) looks pretty cool.

Also noticed I have few issues missing in dark victory. Missing 2 , 5 , 7 and 9 so won't be reading that soon :(

This is why you buy trades.

I usually do however if they have every issue I buy them. I thought I had picked them all up but I hadn't.

Dark Victory is a sequel to Long Halloween. Both are alright.

The Huntress in Birds Of Prey is not Batman and Catwoman's daughter like the show.

I noticed :( , I read part of that comic but was too confused about what was going on and didn't care enough to continue so I stopped reading and see that as a bad buy.

Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Is Reading Watchmen?!

It's just called "Birds of Prey" on the cover. According to description online it contains the first three one shot issues starring Black Canary & Oracle and issues 1-4 of the Birds of Prey mini series: Manhunt.

Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Is Reading Watchmen?!

I never read that. I read more later issues starting at 60 or 70 something.

Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Is Reading Watchmen?!

After my bad buys yesterday (Birds of Prey and dark victory with missing pieces) decided to buy some more.

Just bought ofs Amazon and ebay the following batman books :

  • Superman & Batman 51 and 52 (Thanks TOG)
  • I Joker
  • Arkham Asylum - Tales Of Madness 1
  • Dark Joker - The Wild

and decided to try something completely new but still comfortable in something called "Gotham Noir" the description on a site said :

Gotham Noir takes an innovative look at the Batman universe by focusing, not on Batman, but on Jim Gordan. In this Elseworlds reality he's not the respected commissioner of police we all know and love; he's a soused private investigator, the sort made famous in many an atmospheric detective movie over the years.

The story has all the right elements: menacing mob bosses, thick-necked enforcers, corrupt politicians and even a leggy dame with a past and a secret. There's a twisted villain whose mutilated face leaves him with a perpetual, maniacal grin. And there's a shadowy bat-like figure dogging everyone's heels.

I won't give too much away in this story, but suffice it to say Ed Brubaker has written an excellent out-of-continuity tale set in a different time, a different Gotham than Batman fans are used to seeing. Sean Phillips has provided the dark, gritty visuals which could be the storyboards for a wonderful noir film.

So I got to say that one has me exited as I have no idea what too expect.

Ed Brubaker + Batman = win. Always.

Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Is Reading Watchmen?!

My Joker's Asylum - Joker came in the post today and I picked up the remaining ones from Comic shop near me today to complete collection.

Going to take one more trip to the comic store tomorrow and buy off ebay and amazon before I stop and read through all of these. so out of curiosity and people name in their opinion :

Best non-death of, superman story?
Best Spider-man story
Best X-men story (Note: needs to be easy for non-x-men readers to follow and must have wolverine)
