Ourchair's Awesome Anime Thread

Sadly I agree. It was a pretty good show with okay characterization and an okay overall story. It was good.

"And then, Random ran into his closet full of Digimon merchandise. 'It's OK,' he said gently, 'you know I didn't mean it...'"

EDIT: But yeah, the recent seasons have been lackluster.

EDIT: But yeah, the recent seasons have been lackluster.

I only ever saw the first three series, and I liked them well enough. I'm surprised to learn that the show is still going.

Interesting to note is that Steve Blum voices that red dinosaur (Guilamon?) in the third series (that's Tamers right?).

Am I the only one who liked Digimon?

I mean, it came out on the losing end of the great Mon War, but in several ways it was superior to the brand. While not much can beat Pokemon for their gameplay value and fun, Digimon had a vastly superior TV series, with complex plot and characters. My personal favorite season was the Tamers Saga. While significantly darker in tone, it had the most memorable characters and plot, stock footage I never got tired of watching, and the single most horrifying TV villain of my childhood.

I'm not alone here, right?

Right?

:(

**** yeah, I loved Digimon. Way better than Pokemon. The characters were genuine, the story was epic and the animation was cooler.

I always had the opinion that Pokemon had better games, but Digimon had everything else.

Yeah, that's Tamers. The fourth season was basically a Power Rangers ripoff. I've yet to see the fifth one, but I understand it's a lot like Tamers plotwise and was written with people who grew with the previous series in mind.

:D

I loved Digimon when it was out. The show was definitely better than Pokemon. It was epic. Those were the good days...

Anyways, has anyone here ever heard of or seen "Fate/Stay Night"? I'm borrowing the DVD set from my friend and already have seen the first four episodes at his house yesterday. It's great.

For those who want to know what this is about, Fate/Stay Night is about a secret war fought by 7 people known as 'Masters'. They are at war to obtain the Holy Grail (yes the one and only). Every few decades a war is started with seven masters to see who is the most worthy to use it, and the winner gets whatever he/she desires. Anything. But, the masters don't actually fight themselves. They use spirits known as 'Servants'. These servants are actually people from some point in history/mythology. Their true identities are tried to be kept secret, for if who they really are gets out, their weaknesses then will be found out.

The series is 24 episodes.

I've read some of the manga, but the anime follows a different path apparently. Also, I thought Saber's true name was really cool when I found it out.

Yes, actually. Ourchair and I had a conversation about Fate/Stay Night a while back.

Spoiler marks applied because I'm not sure if you've seen the big reveal yet.
The only new anime I've watched in a while was Fate/Stay Night. Mystical tournament.
Transgendered King Arthur.
Based on a video game I think. It was ok. Nothing special.

This is true.

Yeah, it doesn't look all that special, but I haven't seen it so who knows?

Okay, let me rephrase the question...

Somebody recommend me some GOOD anime.

Some of the fight scenes are pretty good. And it's interesting to see the Japanese take on some classic western heroes. Their knowledge of them seems to be... limited.

Oh. GOOD anime. Hmmmmm.

I got nothing.

Just because a Japanese take on western heroes is completely mutilated, mangled and/or simplified, doesn't necessarily mean the people who created them are unknowledgeable.

One could make the same claim on American takes on Norse mythology and Eastern legends.

Indeed you could. Which is why you'll never hear me say that Marvel's Thor is historically accurate.

But at least he's not a woman.

I approve of this idea.

She-Thora, Goddess of Glory!
Thanks to
the new Loki
I must now retract that last statement. **** you Marvel.

I enjoyed Fate/Stay Night.

I've been watching this show called Bounen No Xamdou. It's pretty good, it reminds me somewhat of Eureka 7 though the main character whines about 90% less. It's a mecha show but leans more towards fantasy than sci-fi, plus all of the mechs are organic. So when the main character transforms for the first time it's really cool to watch. The fights are also pretty cool but I wish they'd happen a bit more often.

A good anime to watch in my opinion so HERE if anyone's interested.

Also, the opening is catchy as hell:

I am preparing to watch Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann again.

:D

...But episode 8!

T_T

My favourite anime are DEATH NOTE and FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST. What little of NEON GENESIS EVANGELION, MONSTER, COWBOY BEBOP and SAMURAI CHAMPLOO I have liked. I need to watch the rest.

Film wise, the major ones I have seen are AKIRA and SPIRITED AWAY. I have heard GHOST IN THE SHELL and PERFECT BLUE are good. Is there any other must see anime?

For anime series you need to watch CODE GEASS: LELOUCH OF THE REBLLION, FLCL (or FOOLY COOLY, or FURI KURI), DARKER THAN BLACK, and the READ OR DIE OVA. Also, I personally like GHOST IN THE SHELL: STAND ALONE COMPLEX better than the movie. I'm sure I'm missing some other good ones I can't think ov right now.

For movies you really need to watch PRINCESS MONONOKE.

That's a good list. And I agree that GitS:SAC is more entertaining than the movie, which is something because I really liked the movie. But the sprawling technobabble storylines of SAC were pretty great.

I'd add Big O, Blood+, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya to the above. If you like Cowboy Bebop you may want to check out Outlaw Star. Wolf's Rain was only a little above average in my book, but a lot of people really dig it.

As for movies Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is a good action flick, Samurai X is a personal favorite, and I've heard nothing but good things about Howl's Moving Castle and Grave of the Fireflies.

Geass is good if you enjoyed the strategy centeric plots much like death note. And Fooly Cooly is the weirdest thing I've ever seen
I'd add Big O
I would only advise against Big O bcause it never got renewed for a final season so we have no answers and that can be frustrating. Still a cool show with a Batman TAS vibe to it
Samurai X is a personal favorite,
I loved the first half

Those are good ones as well, except for Wolf's Rain, I never really liked it.

Howl's wasn't bad, but I heard Grave of the Fireflies is depressing as hell.

Said it once and I'll say it again. Mukoh Haden: Sword of the Stranger.

Awesome, is that a movie?

It's easier to understand when you keep in mind that everything is a metaphor for sex and penises.
