Nintendo Wii discussion

Re: Nintendo Wii - prerelease news & discussion

It. . .basically is. But the cutting open, stiching up, injecting. . .it makes it a little more complicated.

cool. I might add that to list of games i want with Wii

Re: Nintendo Wii - discussion & more.

I went out last night to a nearby Wal-Mart but found that there was a long line and not as many Wiis as they expected. This morning, my sister and I went to a different one at 5 a.m. and waited in the freezing cold and rain/snow (not much, but still...) until it opened at 7. They had 20, and we were #12 in line. Walking away with that big white box just puts a smile on your face, doesn't it?

I decided that since I waited two hours in the cold, I deserved to open it up now instead of waiting for Christmas. I had it set up within a half an hour. We attempted to get Zelda, but they were already sold out. :( I just decided to be content with WiiSports (Since they didn't have any other games I was interested in, except for maybe Call of Duty).

God, is it fun. Wii Boxing might be the most tiring video game I've ever played. I doubted Nintendo's marketing plan about having the whole family playing, but so far everyone in my family has at least tried it, and loved it.

Ah, I love my Wii-Wii...

...Wait a second...

While I think DDR takes that honor for me, Wii Boxing is pretty close. My brother and I were tired in just a few matches.

I have not yet gotten the chance to play DDR, and from watching people playing it at arcades, I'm a little afraid to.

Its very fun, but its definitely an acquired taste. And it takes a lot of practice to become any good.

Anyways, to get back on topic, I have to reverse my review of Madden '07. Either I was way too tired and cranky last night, or it may have been because my friends decided to skip the tutorial, but either way its a FUN game. After you learn everything, its a really good way to change up the way football (And hopefully, other sports to follow) is played on a game system. The graphics still look like they were ripped from a PS2, unfortunately, but Madden '08 for the Wii should be a very interesting game.

Re: Nintendo Wii - discussion & more.

Well I waited in line for the Wii for 6 or 7 hours the other night. I was # 20 in line so I was a little nervous that I wouldn't get one. I was talking to some other people in line and one of them happened to be a Wal-Mart employee. He said that they only had 28 systems to sell but not to tell all the people who weren't getting one. For some reason he would lose his job if he told everyone. The wait wasn't too bad, I brought my PSP and my DS and somebody brought a TV an XBOX 360 so there were some Gears of War to play too. There were about 40 to 50 people in line by 5:30 am when they came out to hand out tickets. I got my #20 ticket and ran to my car to warm up before Wal-Mart opened at six. I picked up the Wii, an extra wiimote and nunchuck, and Excite Truck. I preordered Twilight Princess from Best Buy the other day so I'll be getting it soon.

The Wii is glorious. I was pretty much blown away at how well the controller works. It really reminds me of a DS or a computer mouse with the point and click action. Wii sports isn't the greatist game but still very fun and helps you get used to the wiimote. My favorites so far are tennis and bowling. Boxing took the most practice but once I got used to it it was great fun. I am really sore right now from baseball so strech before you play this game.

Excite Truck, for me, was better than expected. I had some trouble getting used to turning the remote to turn my truck but after a few races I was having a blast. This game has some insane races and might be the most fun I've had playing a game in a long time.

Everyone has asked me if it was worth waited all night to play a game system.

My answer has been Hell Yes! Worth every second.:D

Re: Nintendo Wii - discussion & more.

Nintendo plans to update Wii's Virtual Console game list with a brand new title every Monday in the US, aiming to bring more than 30 games to the service before the end of the year, alongside the 12 retro games available at launch.

Hmmm. My sister works at Wal-Mart (She's a loss prevention manager or something-she catches people stealing) and her encyclopedic knowledge of how many Wiis were at each and every store is what helped us get one. She can access a website where they list stuff like that for managers.

Re: Nintendo Wii - discussion & more.

Excite Truck is my kinda racing game. Most racing games have a emphasis on customization and improving your parts to win the harder races. Excite Trucks' races are more focused on skill, timing and mastery of each course. If you played excite bike (who hasn't) or excite bike 64 it sorta the same idea. Timing your jump with the proper speed boost allows you to soar and you can control the pitch of your truck in the air. Tilt the wiimote back towards you and the nose of your truck lifts or for smaller jumps rotate the wiimote away from you for smaller hops. Steering is really accurate and simple just turn the wiimote left or right. The controls are a little strange at first but 30 min into it I was staying on the track alot better. It would have been better if there was a free roam mode and a design your own course mode. Maybe they're unlockable? Versus mode is great fun too. Plenty of tracks and many cars to choose from and unlock. Overall a really fun game I couldn't put it down last night. I'd give it a 8 out of 10.

Re: Nintendo Wii - discussion & more.

So, for those that have a Wii, what are your general impressions? I know it just came out and the games are limited, but still, what do you think? Does it stack up to the competition? How's the nunchuk controller function (I know how it functions, I just mean how well does it work with the various games)? Let me know, I'll be getting on of these soon, and just want to hear what others think.

Best way I can describe it is it has loads of potential. Wii Sports and Madden '07 show this the best, in my opinion. Excite Truck and Red Steel, while mediocre games in my opinion, have the right idea. The Wii is more interactive than any other system before it, and it shows. Will it hold up against the PS3 and 360? I think it will, much better than the Gamecube held up against the Xbox and PS2. The real question should be: Which of the powerhouse machines, PS3 or Xbox 360, do you want with your Wii.
