Re: New Avengers series discussion (spoilers)

I really like how Bendis is writing Spider-Man in this book. He's not a team guy and he's not going to be a leader on this team. It just ain't gonna happen. He's more in the background, making jokes, which is exactly how he should be.
See, my problem here is that I DON'T think Spider-Man is funny, I think he sounds like he's about 15 and
trying to be funny, in that "I'll keep throwing out inappropriate remarks and one of them will be funny eventually" way. He's supposed to be at least in his mid/late 20s, isn't he? Teaches in a high school? For those of you who read USM, how much does the NA Spider-Man sound like the Ultimate Spider-Man?
The brightest point for me is that Cap actually SOUNDS like Cap in the last third of the issue, whereas I've been thinking he might be a Skrull or something equally ridiculous. In earlier issues, too often he goes from full out "I am Captain America and you will do what I say!" mode when he's shouting at the villains to someone who is indecisive and hesitant. Brubaker has the FAR better take on Cap, with Epting's art showing Cap's internal struggles that Brubaker's scripts hint at.
Good that Luke Cage got to finally do and SAY something - I barely knew who the character WAS (except through Alias) before this and in 12 issues he'd remained almost a total blank.
How odd that Ronin turned into such a... non-issue. While a bunch of the hype was internet created, it was all certainly fanned along by Marvel in covers and interviews. It did get the issue talked about, which is, I guess, the point, but it somehow feels like Marvel WANTS an adversarial role with fans on this particular title.
Also odd that Iron Man has gone back to being generous with the money, offering to fund an entire team. I dunno, maybe his investments have done well.
Never a fan of ninjas, I'm glad to see this story arc over. Of course, the next one is already spoiled, but the whole "Avengers go public" might actually be interesting and I might, just MIGHT, start paying for the comic if it gets interesting.
