Lost *spoilers*

I have a querstion -- if Richard was touched by Jacob and therefore made immortal, why was Locke able to be killed? We still need this answer... Probably most of all as far as I am concerned.

I don't think his touch means immortality per say, Just happened in the case of Alpert. Maybe for Locke it mean he'd be healed. Because he touch Kate and Sawyer at young ages and they aged to adulthood. I think Alpert was a special instance.

I knod of feel like nothing has been happening the past few episodes. The flash sideways are sometimes pretty cool, but they seem to be the only parts of the episodes that have plot.

I love that Jack is awesome again. And Ben's line about being so terrified about losing his power that he lost what really mattered was perfect. I also liked the "the island won't let us die" thing being used again and when Lapidus told Ben that he was supposed to be the pilot of Oceanic 815, imagine how different my life would be if i hadn't slept in that morning. Then Ben says, "Different? The island got you anyway!"

But besides those few moments I just felt like nothing happened. There was no driving plot, it was just a bunch of people having crises and Jack being awesome. The Flash sideways didn't even make sense. The daughter of a French explorer ends up living in LA and going to school at the same school Ben, Locke, and Arst teach at? And out of all the students at the school, Alex is the one that Ben has a really good student teacher relationship with? It just seems like that connection was a bit of a stretch.

But now that Widmore's coming and everyone seems to have landed on one side or the other, hopefully the story will pick up again.

And I totally called that Widmore was the person that Jacob told Hurley was coming.

By the way. Remember my friend that asked how Jack had a son all along that we didn't know about?

Today she told me that Jack and Hurley were going to get infected next because everyone who's name was a number was turning bad.

Then I sent her to lostpedia to look at their article about the candidates and she comes back and asks "wait! this website says Charles Widmore is Daniel Faraday's dad! Does that mean he and Penny are brother and sister?"

EDIT: So I missed what I thought was the first 30 seconds of the episode yesterday and I went back to watch it. It turns out I missed over nine minutes of the episode. It was all pretty significant stuff.

I think with that set up it changes my feelings toward the episode. All the stuff about Napolean and Elba, being the emperor of the island without having any real power. Ben, Arst, and Locke talking about the principal loving his position but forgetting he was there to help the kids and then Locke saying that if the man in charge doesn't care about the students, maybe it's time for a change. All that juxtaposed with the fact that Ben killed Jacob and that he genuinely regrets that he let Alex dies so he could hold on to his power. And the fact that at the end of the episode he put Alex above his desire to be in power instead of using her as a pawn like he did in his struggle with Widmore (who is now coming to the island so that should be interesting).

Also, Roger Linus' line about "imagine how different our lives would have been if we had stayed, what you would have become!" was chilling and then compared to Lapidus' similar question about his life if he had been on flight 815 and Ben's answer....AMAZING!

I repent of my non-belief. This episode was spectacular.

I thought it was fun that Ben ends up gassing his dad in both timelines. :)

Yea, Jacob's gifts mean different things. I would imagine when Jacob touched Locke, he was able to walk again once he reached the island.

The flash sideways are representative, I guess. You're telling me that a Yale graduate is a public school principal? Alex couldn't find another Yale grad to write her a recommendation even if Ben was the principal? All these questions are raised, but they wouldn't make a point. What played out did.

Rewatching that and picking up on it made me grin. The other flash sideways didn't really have such subtle nods... Except when Ethan was around and he said he didn't like using needles.

I just wanted to speculate for a second about Jack's ex-wife and mother to David. We don't know who it is yet... Presumably, it is Sara but it could be anyone. We know that it isn't Kate, for one thing, because she was on the plane and when Jack bumped into her he only vaguely remembered her. Juliet is another popular theory and one that I would not mind, but my own is a bit different. What if it were Ilana?

Or the Italian chick he made out with right before his marriage ended

I posted my theory on Lostpedia and someone mentioned that it could also be Ana Lucia. Remember she was carrying a child when she was shot? Woah...

HOLY ****! That is brilliant, though she didn't know Jack at that time so the father in the original timeline must be someone else. Though it would be interesting

I liked Miles wrapping up the Paul and Nicky story. Diggin for buried treasure on a mysterious island? Good times.
Also, Richard pretty much confirmed that he was a slave on the black rock. Pretty cool.

Oh, I know that Jack wasn't around to be the father of Ana Lucia's child... But I was saying that based on the fact that the flash sideways seem to give all of the characters a chance at redemption. Her character can be redeemed if she gets to properly mother a child... Since the timeline is different and Hurley employs Rose and Locke ends up working at the same school as Ben, I don't see why Jack can't meet Ana Lucia somehow and knock her up. Perhaps she still gets shot but manages to save both Ana Lucia and the child and they fall in love, like Jack did with Sara... Even more cool.

this may sound really ignorant...were there slaving ships that transported white slaves? The Black Rock sailed out of England and was last seen near Madagascar, so it doesn't make sense to me that Richard would be a slave. Maybe I'm wrong...

I kind of thought he was a mutineer or something and was put in chains with the slaves.

Richard is white? I always thought he was something more exotic. According to wikipedia Nestor Carbonell is of cuban/spanish descent.

They couldn't get away with an entire ship of African slaves on network television, no matter how diverse the show is.

PS Episode 9 (
A Richard-centric outting
) will run 6 minutes longer.

Yeah but slave ships usually enslaved black people from Africa. At first I was wondering what made you think he was a slave, then I remember MIB saying "Good to see you out of those chains." I think Cnauck's mutiny is a good idea

Yes they could, I wouldn't imagine why not.

YES!

If there was a black slave ship on LOST, Lindelof and Cuse would surely have to kiss Jesse Jackson's ass.

"Apologize."

Not really, it's nothing racists, it's just a historically accurate situation. It's not like the slave trade was really full of white people and Carlton and Damon are replacing them with black people. I mean I'm certain Roots had an episode that was on a slave ship and that was on ABC. It's just not racists and I'm sure they handle it in a respectful manner but African America won't go crazy at just seeing a slave ship in a show. It's simply not racist.

Roots was about slavery. Lost is about God knows what. It would be needless to have a ship full of black slaves. Anyway, this is going too far. haha I'll let it go. You might be right, I dunno.

Another theory my friend just came up with is actually pretty interesting. He thinks that the little boy that appeared to Locke and told him he couldn't break the rules is a part of the Smoke Monster. As opposed to one man, my friend believes he's several. the Locke portion of the Smoke is trying to segment himself from the other personalities (one being this little boy) but can not due to the rules. The rules that apply to being a part of the Smoke Monster. What this means I dunno, and I am thinking about it now... And it seems sort of illogical because the rules have to do with candidates and the rule stipulates that the Smoke Monster can't kill them. I dunno. I'm saying the kid is Jacob.
