Lost *spoilers*

Why couldn't it be Sun AND Jin as candidates? People are assuming it's a matter of "or".

I do wonder why Kate was omitted... She was touched by Jacob, after all. Perhaps he had different plans made for her. My roommate also said he spotted "Littleton" crossed off, too. Whatever that means. Why she was crossed off and not Sayid would be confusing.

by the way, here is the numbers/candidates list

4-Locke, 8-Reyes, 15-Ford, 16-Jarrah, 23-Shephard, 42-Kwon

I'm sure this isn't really significant, but Psalm 23 starts off, "The Lord is my Shephard"
I'm sure that is very relevant.

Sayid was pretty much JUST tainted. Who would have had time to run down there and cross him off? Just like Locke not being crossed off. Someone needed to have time to do it. However, personally I don't think that is Jacob's place at all. I think it's the smoke monsters. I think they both need replacements and that list of candidates is just as much the smokemonsters as jacobs.

Oh, I like this

Agreed, he did touch both of them at the same time. Plus I'm thinking they got 42 from being two people, 21 and 21 added together which would make Jack 23, being the highest number

I think it's because the monster got to her first and convince her to give up her spot of being Jacob's replacement. The monster may not know that Sayid has been claimed yet, plus the infection hasn't spread "to his heart" yet. I think this place was for both Jacob and Smocke at one time and Smocke has been using it since.

The list was Jacob's, but Smocke is the guy making sure the list no longer exists. He believes that the island doesn't need a protector or a "new Jacob"... And therefore stands in anyone's way trying to take over for him. Which makes me curious... Does Smocke belong in the alternate reality where there is no island?

Depends what his home is and if he survived the nuclear blast.
yeah, but people are variables, numbers are constants.
I think you're taking Faraday's one line of a metaphor a bit too literally. Remember Penny was a constant for Desmond and she is a person. Variables he was taking about is free will, the choice people are able to make. And the numbers are a constant result of this equation. You could look at it as people are both constant and variables, constant refers to the nature of humanity that Smocke believes in and variables are our ability to choose, which Jacob believes in

fair enough. I forgot about people being constants for each other.

EDIT: lostpedia.com has a list of all the possible candidates and previous candidates. It shows anyone who has been touched by Jacob, all the names shown on the walls and anyone who was mentioned as possibly being a candidate.

For some reason, I knew that the science expedition would be included on the list of candidates. And they are.

That page on Lostpedia is actually pretty cool.

I think there are candidates in every group that has been brought to the island

So this episode really made me throw in with a ... not really theory but a viewpoint. That instead of Jacob being good and Flocke being evil its Jacob is Fate and Flocke is free will. Neither inherantly good or evil. The idea that the Candidates are replacing Jacob isn't what I was expecting at all, but Jacob as Fate manipulating people to eventualy replace him works for me. I really can't wait to find out more about Flocke's past. And who the creepy blonde kid is.

Oh, and I'm calling Dr. Linus as Juliette.

I wonder if they'll explain why the Smoke could kill the likes of Eko and the men in the Four Toed Statue. And why he could be summoned by Ben.

My guess, way back when Smokey was chosen to be the enforcer of the island and that role is bond by rules, that he can only kill when attack or the victim fails the judgment, that he can be summoned. But for like Jacob there are rules preventing him from Killing Jacob, but found the loop hole by having an exiled leader do it.

Brilliant
The Pub I'm associate with down here is called "The Irish Pub" they have two locations in Phila and one in A.C. The head bartender at the one I go to is a good friend of mine and a huge LOST fan. I have lengthy discussions with him about the show. But I came up with an idea for a St. Paddy's day shirt for the bar and it's gonna be the Dharma logo with a Shamrock in the middle and possibly "The Shamrock" station underneath. I think it might be cool so if anyone here wants one when they come out, let me know.

I don't know how I feel about the show's premiere. The whole introduction of the templetons makes me feel like everything and every other group on the island has been severely cheapened. And from the get go the introduce new characters and a different timeline? Looks like the season/series may end with more questions than answers to me.

I went ahead an designed one anyway, for another project..., probably won't make the shirt since I don't want to be stealing ideas.

wow. Another great episode.

The numbers are degrees of a circle in the lighthouse mirror?

And the story with Jack and his son was so amazing. And what the crap...Dogen?

And Claire...so creepy. "That's not John, this is my friend."

EDIT: according to lostpedia Kate's name (Austin) was on the wheel, not crossed out, with the number 51

I was ticked at this episode.

Who is David's mother? Who is coming to they island? How are they getting to the island now? What are Jacob's plan for Jack? What's going to happen to the temple? Who is left there, Sayid?
