Fables series discussion (spoilers)

Bigby Wolf is a good version of Wolverine.
YES.

Ever since I read the first trade, I've been so pissed that Hugh Jackman has already done all the genre schlock his resume needs because I wish he could play Bigby.

Did anyone read the Wizard article about who the Adversary was originally going to be and the main Protagonist was gonna be?

He originally wanted Peter Pan to be the Adversary and Captain Hook as the leading man. Some angle with Peter actually kidnapping children and bringing them to Neverland and the misunderstood Captain taking voyages into Neverland to rescue them.

At one point... I thought the adversary might be Winnie the Pooh.

I have to say, I was disappointed in who the Adversary turns out to be. It was quite obvious after March of the Wooden Soldiers.

I knew who he was before I read MotWS, so while reading it I wondered "how could anyone be surprised?" but I guess that's just hindsight being what it is.

I'm not disappointed though. Having the puppet master controlling all the kingdoms is cool. I'm not sure I like the cold-blooded murder of the blue fairy, though. I can see him toss off an execution without a second thought, but doing the deed himself doesn't really fit.

Of course, now he's slapping around Pinocchio, so who knows.

That. . .

That would have been genius! Extremely disturbing, but genius! But, isn't Edward Bear (Winnie the Pooh) owned by Disney?

Then again, I always thought it'd be funny if Walt Disney or Mickey Mouse was the Adversary.

Snow White - Jennifer Connely (A Beautiful Mind) or Morena Baccarin (Firefly) - Connelly seems the obvious choice, She clearly has the talent and the beauty. But she always tends to play more down to earth characters, and I think Baccarin might have the regality and snootiness that gives the character so much spunk.

Bigby Wolf - Gary Oldman (Batman Begins) - I couldn't find a picture that fit him perfectly... But imagine the dirt and musk of Oldman as Sirius Black on the costume of Oldman as Jim Gordon... Think of his ruffled hair as Sirius, give him a shave and a little haircut and then let him grow out the facial hair a little so he has his everpresent stubble. Gary Oldman is one of the best actors today... and anyone who says that he's too smallish to play bigby needs to learn that its better if there's a huge contrast between him as Bigby Wolf and him in his Wolf form.

Prince Charming - Tom Cruise (War of the Worlds)- I know people will disagree with me here... but he's charming as hell, AND he's a total *******. And despite his personal life, he happens to be a very good actor.

Beauty and the Beast - Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) - Someone came up with this idea on the Fabletown Forums, and I have to say I think its pretty brilliant. The two had plenty of chemistry on Buffy, and they both have the beautiful people thing down... And plus, can't you just see David in his half-beast form?

Boy Blue - Ryan Phillipe (Crash) - He has the innocent look to him, and he looks much younger than he actually is. Honestly though, they'd need to get somebody who would interact well with whomever plays Snow.

Rose Red - Scarlett Johannson (Lost in Translation)- 'Nuff Said.

King Cole - Bill Murray (Ghostbusters) - This is also from the Fabletown Forums... but i think that its Murray's eyes that did it for me. He has this eternal sparkle in his eyes that makes his good moods big and booming and his bad moods quite sad.

Jack of Tales - Callum Blue (Dead Like Me) - People might want to cast Sawyer in this part, but the truth is that Sawyer is good at what he does, while Jack is NOT very good at what he does. Callum would have to go blond, and ditch the british accent, but I think he'd be a great choice

Flycatcher - Matthew Lilard (Scooby Doo) - Lovable and awkward looking.

Cinderella - Laura Harris (Dead Like Me) - In my mind she's a perfect fit for this role.

Frau Totenkinder - Dame Judi Dench (Casino Royale) - 'Nuff Said

Bluebeard - Adam Baldwin (Firefly) - Imagine him bald and with a goatee. Then Imagine him swordfighting Tom Cruise. I think he'd be a great choice

Reynard Fox - Antonio Banderas (Evita) - Infinitely charming, especially as a fox in love with Snow White

Mowgli - Naveen Andrews (Lost) - While Andrews is Indian in origin, I think he'd be equally suited to play Sinbad... But I think Andrews has the physical stamina and the skill to play one of the top Tourists of the mundy world.

Mr. North - Liam Neeson (Batman Begins) - Not because of how he looks in the comics, but more because I think he would be a great counter to Gary Oldman. Also.. He -would- look good with longer white hair and a white moustache. He has the proper regality to him. You can hear him yelling at the lesser winds to stop acting so juvenile.

Goldilocks - Zooey Deschanel (Weeds) - She makes a FANTASTIC crazy person. She's also very beautiful and if she put on a pair of crazy-round glasses, she's be perfect.

Many I don't recognise, and I disagree with a couple. I don't see the Rose Red or Frau Totenkinder. I also think Tom Cruise is NOT a good actor, and he's not got the right build for Charming. I think a better Charming would be Nathan Fillion. I think he'd do it wonderfully. Or, if you wanted to go left of field... Will Smith. Think about it. :shifty:

But I love the Buffy/Angel thing.

So I just finished "The Mean Season" trade. This book is awesome. I don't know if I'm gonna pick up Jack of Fables though. I hate Jack's character. I do try to be a completist though.

I'd ignore Jack of Fables if I were you. It's just so uninteresting.

From what I heard the first arc is "meh", but I'll probably still pick it in trade.

It is. Actually the first 2 arcs are quite slow and make you question why everyone thinks its so great. But then by the 3rd arc things start to pick up and then you can't get thru them all quick enough.

By the time you get all caught up---you'll be kicking yourself in the *** for not getting in on this sooner.

He was actually talking about Jack of Fables.

But yeah, Jack of Fables doesn't have the same feeling that Fables does, probably because of the different writer and the lack of a proper cast.

Just when I hated Jack's character, I find his story in the Homelands trade to be very intriguing. I doubt it merits him getting his own series though. That honor should have gone to Mowgli. Why don't they do little spinoff arcs for certain characters?

Anyway YOU'RE MY BOY BLUE!!! Boy Blue is the Hey! Didn't see me coming. Most badass character ever!!

I can't wait to see Gepetto get really angry and loose his cool. He really seemed like an old feeble man the entire time. Damn this book's teh awesome!! I especially love how Charming/Beast/Beauty hold their own and didn't just turn into farce's when they took office. Though Beast is written way to similar to Bigby. If not for the art I would say, judging by the dialogue, they're the same character.

Kick ***!
