Fables series discussion (spoilers)

#57 is about Bigby, Snow White and the cubs going to visit Mr. North. They fly on the magic carpet to his castle, and are greeted by that little snow demon thing. Bigby and White talk about Bigby's father. Bigby sends the kids off to perform their first hunt, as a rite of passage. Later on, Bigby talks to his father about the times he tried to kill him and about a Fabletown plan. Bigby wants Mr. North to capture some zephyrs, and Bigby wants to turn them into spies to spy on the Imperial Fables in the town. Mr. North agrees.

We learn that Bigby sending the cubs out to hunt was a mistake, as one of the cubs stumbles across some strange beasts...

I heard the Beasts were
The Wild Things
. That's awesome.

So, on Fabletown.com, Matthew Sturges announced that James Jean is quitting as cover artist of Jack of Fables and they already have his replacememnt. He'll stay on as Fables cover artist though.

This is weird news. He's only missed one cover of any Fables-related comic, so it'll seem kind of strange not to have him on this book.

And I wonder who could take over for him and still be cool.

So, I dug the hell out of the writing for this first ish featuring the Wolf Family and Grandpappy Wind, but was I the only one who felt the art in it was just godawful? not necessarily BAD, but just totally weird and unfitting for a lot of the characters?

It was alright.

I'll miss James Jean.

He's still doing Fables covers, he's just leaving Jack of Fables.

Yes, but I'll miss him doing the Jack of Fables covers.

Maybe Jack of Fables should have been a mini. I'm just not that interested in it.

Finally read the "1001 Nights".

Damn I love this book. And that one story about Flycatcher?!?!? Damn that was heartbreaking.

Did anyone read the Wizard article about who the Adversary was originally going to be and the main Protagonist was gonna be?

He originally wanted Peter Pan to be the Adversary and Captain Hook as the leading man. Some angle with Peter actually kidnapping children and bringing them to Neverland and the misunderstood Captain taking voyages into Neverland to rescue them.

That's pretty cool.

This series is really good.

Bigby Wolf is a good version of Wolverine.

I've read all 8 trades.

I'm sad now.

I've seen it. And I would have LOVED if that were the case.

Unfortunately, Barrie's stories were still copyrighted at the time. And Willingham only uses non-copyrighted characters.

I love Bigby, though. Geppetto. . .Willingham writes him as a good villain, but whenever I think of him as the Geppetto from the Pinnochio stories, I'm just like "Why is he the villain of Fables again?"

Also, anyone know if the first trade for Jack of Fables is out yet? I haven't seen it anywhere. . .
