If 007 was a superhero I guess he'd be Daredevil then.

What a great fresh feel to this. I don't think it started off as strong as Devil in Cell Block D but it was still a very intriguing story. Everything already having been said... The poker game was great and so was the bullfight.

What's the deal with Lennox though. I feel like he's not behind this. He was cowardly and surprised to see Daredevil.

Also Karen's perfume... good touch but poorly executed. If it was Karen's scent why did Matt have such a hard time deciphering it. I mean it should've had him from the get go. Abuseing Karen much? This is why I don't like Milla's character. Karen was the love of Matt Murdock's life and they use her occasionally as a plot device.

Matador. So badass. I want this to be a Matador II. It'd be such a waste to have just a plain thug and not really show any significance. I think my wish will come true because he's reappearing in costume again. He has to be connected to Eloganto. Same techniques and same ruthelessness to the animals.

4.5/5

Newsarama has some previews of DD #90 and other good stuff.
Enter Tombstone

#90

Matt is asleep and dreams about dancing with Lily... Foggy comes out of nowhere and asks "What about Milla?"

Matt wakes up. He takes the day exploring Sintra, near Lisbon. At night he infiltrates Lennox's home and finds him dead. Lily is missing. Then he catches the scent and hears the car pulling away. He jumps out and gets hit. It's raining hard and Tombstone steps out and basically kicks the **** out of Daredevil. He doesn't kill him because he's not being payed too. He gets away with Lily leaving Daredevil unconscious.

It's not hard to track a large albino with cement like skin. He trails them to Paris. There's a few nice scenes of Paris and Daredevil interogatting anyone he can get his hands on. He catches a break when someone who thinks Matt Murdock's french is terrible and is hanging stories up from Notre Dame Cathedral tells him he knows where Tombstone got some weapons from.

Daredevil beats on the shop keeper who reveals that he's supposed to meet with them tomorrow. But it wasn't Tombstone who made the arrangements. It was the girl he was with and working for...

Tombstone is seen in a hotel room drinking a beer with Lily scolding him about hitting her back in Sintra to make the kidnapping look authetic. Tombstone says he only did what he was told and she tells him to never do it again.

She goes into the bedroom and lays next to the Matador. He confesses that she smells like his mother did when he was a child and asks her how she makes him feel this way.

"Easy with the questions tiger.... a woman has to have her secrets, doesn't she?"

5/5

I loved seeing Daredevil get the **** beaten out of him. I can't remember the last time he couldn't handle a fight. Tombstone wrecked him and if he's got to face Matador and Tombstone together... I just don't know how he's gonna do it.

Lily's got some kind've powers? I think? I dunno how I feel about that and I can't think of any clues as to how this is bringing us closer to any familiar DD characters... Is it possible that it could be Typhoid Mary? I doubt it but I have no idea where Brubaker's takin' us.

I hate when people get comics before me.

Early posts on issues not out yet are the exception that they need to get a spoiler warning, spoiler thread or not.

Finally read this today.

The Tombstone beatdown was great. It's nice to see something like this once in a while, even though DD's life the last few months or so certainly hasn't been a cakewalk.

I didn't get the feeling that Lily has super powers, BUT she did say that she didn't have any control over Tombstone...so maybe you're on to something and it's some kind of mind control? I hope it's not Typhoid Mary, but I think Brubaker could pull it off if it was. I mean it's not like turning Mary jane Watson into a she-wolf.

Going trough DD's European rogues gallery, I came across Purple Man! He's Yugoslavian! And has a daughter that controls people trough pheromones!

It's almost perfect until I get to the "and her skin is purple" part. Sadness. I really wanted to guess something. Just once. (Foggy being in protective custody doesn't count because I had just seen that episode of L&O: SVU and all...)

Very interesting.

Just read the issue. Once again brubaker proves why EVERYONE should be reading DD.

This issue was awesome. It was awesome seeing Matt get his *** handed to him. Just like in Punisher MAX during the Baracudda arc---how often do we see the main character get over-matched? Great stuff.

I definitely think Lily's got some kinda pheremone powers. Maybe not mind-controlling aspect......but a familiarty-based power that compells men to do as she asks.

Kinda like Drews powers?

For now we don't know the actual nature of her powers.....if she has any. But similar yeah.

Well, I was just asking if that's what you thought her powers might be like. But this does sound good. If i were to get TPBs, Where would you guys say I should get first?

I would recommend the whole thing. There are 13 volumes of Bendis/Mack/Smith which are all good. Really it's an ongoing story and things unfold over several issues and arcs. To get the whole backstory you should read it all.

Brubaker/Lark's first TPB just came out (they numbered it Vol. 1 for some reason).

And speaking of Lark - I don't think he gets enough love for his work on this book. I didn't think they could get a better fit for Daredevil than Alex Maleev, but Lark is it. His style is so perfect.

Then get the essential Daredevil back stories which you can probably pick up in the Frank Miller Daredevil Omnibus Vol. 1 and 2 coming out. *orgasm*

Seconded......or is it "thirded"? :?

Either way I've just started going back and trying to read Bendis' run and its' DAMN good. I'm on Vol.2 now.

I think they numbered it #1 to reflect the change in teams. You know---similar to how they did with Capt America once Brubaker took over. It's called something like Cap America Vol.5 Vol-1.

I don't know...it's weird like that.

........ *orgasm*

Don't you mean "geekasm"?

It is weird, because not only did they number Kevin Smith's DD issues as vol. 1 of that run, they actually changed it in reprint to be so.

It seems to me that if the story is a continuation, the vol. numbering should be the same. It's not like Extremis which was a total reboot. There's a LOT of backstory leading up to Brubaker's run - if a DD newbie picks up Brubaker's Vol. 1 he unintentionally gets a lot of things spoiled. It's not like there's a disclaimer at the beginning.

Well, IMO, you three are the best critiquers on this site and that's enough for me to get this. I'll going to amazon asa I get some free'd up money from babysitting.

Got it, read it, loved it.

So glad I can say this monthly.

I won't even bother going into detail since y'all seem to have covered everything noteable... Except the cover itself. I've been absolutely adoring the covers that have been around since the beginning of Brubaker's run. For some reason, the covers over Bendis's run were a turn-off to me. But I love this month's. ^^ So very moody.

5/5, as per usual.

Funny you mention that - I loved Maleev's covers. The first few Brubaker covers (I'm pretty sure it wasn't Lark doing them) looked terrible - and they used the worst one as the cover to the TPB. The last few have been much better though.
