The art makes a massive amount of difference to me. It's down to the artist to do all the acting and dynamics of the characters, as an essential part of the storytelling as the story itself, whether a character looks cool, and expresses themselves in a cool way matters to what is being told.
And although I like the art of the X-men currently, I find it a little too light, though probably more suited to the tv themed arc of current than anything that has gone before.
So really, if they team singer up with a really top notch artist that can give thematic feedback too, them I think the run can't go far wrong. I do just hope that singer stays grounded on the project and feels part of it, rather than it being part of himself.
