Bendis: "I smell an Ultimate Deadpool comin’"

The single best part of this thread was Hawkeye101 arguing that if he was a mutant, he couldn't have scars...

Hehe.

I smell an Ultimate Deadpool comin' too. It smells like ****.

How can someone like Ultimate Deadpool? It's awful, I really dig his costume, but that just it... ugh..

How can you not like it? I bet answering that would be very easy for you as well as many others. Assume the same is true for me and your question. In fact....don't assume.

I didn't ask to you. Don't assume you are the center of everything around here. I was just saying I didn't like it, one of the worst ultimizations ever. Except for the costume as I already stated. So yeah...don't assume.

Deadpool was a real disapointment. I mean, he's Deadpool! He's supposed to be hilarious!! Instead all we got was a 4 issue, 2 month long team up, and he wasn't even funny! Spider-man was funnier than him. There was a place for this sort of thing, and it was called the Ultimate Team-up book.

He wasn't supposed to be funny. His Earth-616 counterpart is supposed to be funny. Anytime I hear Ultimate anything, I don't ever expect it to be just like the Earth-616 character. Similar perhaps but not always the same traits, attitudes and so forth.

Whether he was or wasn't, there was no real essence of Deadpool there. Just because it's "ultimate" doesn't mean you should change the essence of a character.

Especially the good parts. Deadpool being hilarious, is the only reason a guy like him registers on my radar at all. They could have made him more dark and creepy if they were going to go that way, but the whole arc just felt like an excuse to have a gratuitous X-men appearance. And show off a new useless costume. And keep in mind I actually like Bendis. It's just he can do so much better than this.

No, but it does mean you can change the essence of that character. As what happened here. This Deadpool was more dark with a real edge to him. I liked it because it did have a Spider-man/X-men collaboration and because of his absolute hate for mutants. I liked Peter and Kitty's interaction even more.

I actually enjoyed the ultimazation of Deadpool.

However my intrpretation of the character seems to differ from most of the posts I've seen. I really didn't find him to be a mutant hater at all. To me he came across as a bad-*** merc that spent to much time in the field and as a result, developed a really grim sense of humor. He also came across as incredibly sure of himself ( to the point of becoming overconfident and cocky) and a serious ham. I thought that the snarling, over-the-top, mutant hating Deadpool was just his way of playing to the Genoshan TV audience for better ratings and a bigger paycheck. When he was off camera he was almost laid back
Well, that was my interpretation of it anyway.
