No, that's how **** up a character because it even isn't that character anymore. This isn't a place where you can just do anything you want with a character and slap a name on it just because its "ultimate".

While I agree with your point in general, you almost have to change the essense of 616 Deadpool to fit him into the Ultimate universe. Most of his humor came from breaking the 4th wall, after all.

There's nothing wrong with SOME changes, but it shouldn't be a total change.

It doesn't have to be that character pound for pound. If you keep running around trying to compare whoever the character might be to their 616 counterpart, you'll find yourself more often than not angry and/or disappointed because this is exactly a place where you can change the essence of that character. Different universe.

No one's saying pound for pound. But like I said, you can't just make something that's COMPLETELY different and slap a name on it and say its ok because its a different universe. Weak excuse and a cop out.

No one has to directly say "pound for pound" Ice. It is said every time the comparison between an ultimate character and his or her 616 counterpart is used as a negative against the ultimate character (particularly around here). I also fail to see how Deadpool was completely different from the "merc with the mouth". Different, no question but not completely different.

Negative? Jesus! Ultimate Thor is awesome, Ultimate Nick Fury was the one that made me like 616 Nick Fury. Ultimate Longshot is awesome and so on. I think we have a thread with the "best ultimizations" in each ones opinion. But the thing is, all of them have something of their counterparts, not just the color of theirs costume. Ultimate Deadpool was not funny at all, he was a crazy mutant hater that looked like a Martian from Mars Attack. He could have been easily one original character, 'cause he was nothing like Deadpool.

I would have loved a serious, deadly, respectable, formidible Deadpool... but nope, they decided to make him a mutant hating bigot with lots of money. His characterization wasnt just bland... it was boring.

Could you be a little more specific. Are we talking about changes in the character from 616 or just 5 things we like about the character in general.
 
I really need to read the Deadpool arc.. Its practically turning into the new UIM.


Speaking out of complete ignorance of the Deadpool arc, I do want to say I think you guys are being too harsh about maintaining the "essence" of the character. I mean, what "essence" was maintained about Ultimate Sinister that came from 616? A pompous mutant researcher with no scruples vs. a down on his luck, tatooed street thug with a stutter? Personally I loved Ultimate Sinister, but I don't think they bothered trying to maintain some "essence" of the character.
