It wasn't. It was someone that helped him out after he revealed his identity during civil war. Spidey has no memory of his deal with Mephisto. The Spidey-editors have been setting it up to be a big reveal some time this year.

I'm sticking with Madame Web.

I keep reading this because an arc or plot interests me and I get let down. They always have to remind me of the garbage of OMD and it's inconsistency. How could any of these stories not have been told without him being married is beyond me. If they didn't want his identity of known, they should of never revealed it to the entire world. ****ing retards.

Agreed. Aside from minor plot points like Peter seeing the coroner chick. But she could just be an acquaintance if she is really needed.

It was Mephisto
:noway:

Yeah, that was the whole driving point according to Quesada.

yep. Apparently now, MJ will be back as recurring character, but as the ex who still cares for Peter a lot but is jaded toward him due to whatever happened. Hints have also been dropped that Pete is going to end up dating someone soon.

I guess the idea was to give Peter a break from a relationship for the first year of Brand New Day continuity, set up the relationships and the new status quo before addressing his relationship with MJ, etc. But they really should have addressed it earlier. If the reason Peter wasn't dating was b/c of his breakup with MJ, you think he would have talked about it every once in a while, but it was briefly addressed at the beginning and then ignored until the issue that comes out next.

At the end of the day, as long as this story has an end (Peter and MJ somehow remember the deal with Mephisto and 'defeat' him and end up back together) I'll be satisfied. Even if it continues as is a for a few more years, that's fine, but at some point put it back.

To be honest, I'm kind of interested to see what Peter and MJ's relationship will be now. Here's hoping they don't skirt the issue altogether.

Captain, why are you saying Madame Web? I can't even remember the last time she was used besides the "Back in Black" arc right after Civil War.

Web was having visions of the future, not visions of Peters Past

Precognition is her entire schtick. They were giving glimpse's of what was to come in "The Guantlet". She-Kraven and a menagerie of Spidey-villains are going to hunt down all the Spider-Related character's with one or two of the D-listers being killed off (Arana, Steel Spider, etc.).

Dude it was Mephisto that erased everyone's knowledge of Peter's identity IIRC he even mentioned it off hand in the last issue or two of OMD he threw it in as a sweetener.

So Blact Cat is returning.

In a storyline called "Back In Black Cat."

...yeah, it's getting hard to give this the benefit of the doubt.

Finally got to read #600 yesterday. A weak anniversary issue. But really weak overall. Main story was decent, but I don't like Doc Ock's new look. It's stupid. I do like the whole head trauma explanation, which makes sense.

Stan's "Identity Crisis" story was pretty funny. Not bad. The fake covers were alright, though the Spider-Man/Batman one was really funny.

The Madame Web mini-story I thought was better than the main story. And after reading it, I can see where Canuck thinks she had something to do with hiding Peter's I.D. again, but it's not. From reading the story, it looks that she sees/feels/(whatever) something's being disturbed that shouldn't be, and that 'spiders are being hunted', but nothing about her being behind Pete's re-masking.
