Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. discussion (spoilers)

I've just rewatched the last episode: have you seen that the Hydra locations on the map were S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters?
There are South Africa, 'Threehouse', China... all locations of the Avengers 2!

Where are Bennie and Claire in all this? I'm sure HYDRA plans on using all of the tech that's been confiscated.

She looks better in them anyway.

Groan. ;) I'm sure she looks better out of them. Just saying.

I love the way Marvel did this. Garret being the Clairvoyant is perfect. If Zola was the Clairvoyant, then you would have to watch both the show and the movie to understand what was going on. As it stands, we've got two interconnected plots that can stand alone but enrich each other if you see both.

Exactly, perfect summation.
It makes sense that if Hydra had infiltrated SHIELD and were secretly trying to achieve their own ends, that they would have several avenues for doing so. Project Insight was Hydra's endgame. Everything they did was leading up to that, but for 70 years they were biding their time, growing in numbers, and achieving their smaller goals. Project Insight only became possible after the events of Avengers. So before that, they used Zola's algorithm on a smaller scale to help them achieve their goals and kill their enemies and potential enemies. We need to remember that the Clairvoyant/Garret wasn't the head of Hydra, * SPOILER * was. And before him, someone else was. So he used various tactics to throw the world into turmoil, to remove threats to Hydra, to gather technology and power, to experiment on people so they could create super soldiers, etc. So they used the Winter Soldier, and Centipede, and the Clairvoyant, and possibly AIM, or the Ten Rings, etc to achieve those goals. While Centipede was using alien tech, extremis, super soldier serum, and deathlock technology to create super soldiers, Strucker was using Loki's sceptre to control or create mutants/"miracles". Hydra is a big organization and has it's tentacles in lots of different things.

Also perfectly summarized. Yes, Hydra's got their fingers--er, tentacles--in a lot of pots.

Yup. It'll be interesting to see what role and what effect Hydra has on Avengers 2 and the creation of Ultron. Since we know SHIELD is basically kaput (except for Coulson's team and a handful of other agents across the world like the character Patton Oswalt is playing), it's probably not SHIELD's remnants who lead to the creation of Ultron. It's possible it's Stark Industries, in response to the events of Cap 2 and SHIELD being disbanded, using AI and automated Iron Man suits to police the world. But, I think it's more likely Hydra is involved with Ultron's creation.

Where are Bennie and Claire in all this? I'm sure HYDRA plans on using all of the tech that's been confiscated.

Are those the two from Item 47 who found the Chitauri gun and became SHIELD agents? I presume it's possible they may pop back up, but I'm not betting on it, as I think the actors have moved on to other things. Though it's important to note that probably wouldn't prevent them from making a cameo appearance, possibly in a future One Shot. I doubt we'll see them in a film as they're not really essential characters, nor is their plot essential, as the MCU has bigger fish to fry, so to speak.

Course that begs the question of if the guy's research on the Chitauri tech was used at all in the new Helicarriers seen in Cap 2.

Networks announce show renewals or new show announcements usually the second week of May, so we should know about Agents of SHIELD getting a second season and Agent Carter being picked up by the first or second week of May, specifically between May 12-14 (sometimes they'll make announcements a bit early, hence news possibly hitting the first week of May).

I'm a few episodes behind on this. I want to know what is going on and I want to see the tie-in with Winter Soldier, but holeee cats this show is bad. The acting is terrible and the dialogue is downright banal.

It gets better. Well, the writing and plot twists, anyway. By episode 13 it actually turns into a decent show, at least in terms of the stakes.

I'm not THAT far behind. I just watched "T.A.H.I.T.I." It actually seems like it's getting worse.

You're in the minority there, then. TRACKS (ep 13) and TAHITI (ep 14) are generally regarded as when the show began it's turn around and getting better. Episode 15 was ok (a lot of people liked it because Sif from the Thor films is in it, but I found it pretty formulaic), but Episodes 16-17 (the tie in episodes for CA-TWS) were bonkers. Lots of plot twists and surprises. It's not Shakespeare, Dostoyevsky, or Alan Moore caliber writing, but it's fun and keeps you guessing during those two episodes.

Heh, cool reference to Griffin (Johnny Horton) while Ward and Garrett were breaking into the Fridge.

Also, all the prisoners they released will definitely play into the later episodes. Really hoping we see a sort of Masters of Evil villain team up later in the season.

Nice, Graviton will obviously be making an appearance!

Bill Paxton was totally channeling his inner Bond villain. Disappointed at the lack of the promised "holy eff" moment this episode.

Yeah this episode was definitely more toned down than the past few, but that makes sense considering they're dealing with the fallout from the Hydra uprising. If every episode featured those mind blowing moments, it'd lessen the impact those moments have and have people expecting them, which detracts from their impact.

Where was it said this episode features a "holy eff" moment, as you put it?

So I liked this episode, but let me make fun of it for a second…

Of course evil Ward has a five o'clock shadow.

"There are 100 floors, the only way in is through the roof!" Why in the world would Garret have said that to Ward right then. They could have found a more subtle way to let the audience know that little piece of info.

Anyway, on to the good things and things I'm wondering about.

I totally geeked out about the barber shop chair. That was awesome.
Brett Dalton actually does a pretty good job of subtly changing his personality from evil Ward to the Ward we're used to seeing.
What did Simmons mean when she said, "It's too late for that" to Fitz?
So Garret is a cyborg after all!
The Griffin reference was cool. I wondered what that was referring to, thanks DIB
There was a TON of stuff from previous episodes tied into this:
Ward explaining why he did and said certain things to gain the team's trust
previous enemies returning (Raina, Quinn)
We saw the 084 and the berserker staff in the fridge
gravitonium

I'm wondering if Garret is going to get bit in the butt by what he's doing. He mentioned last episode that he doesn't really believe in Hydra but that he felt the winds changing and so he swung his sail around to get with the right team. In this episode he made fun of the soldier who yelled, "Hail Hydra!" He clearly is just an opportunist that used SHIELD and Hydra to achieve his own goals. But now that Hydra is exposed and leaderless, it seems like he's more of a splinter group than anything. I'm interested to see where this is going.

Jeph Loeb said in an interview that each episode for the seven in a row would have a "'holy eff' moment". I'd look for it but honestly I just got off work and am about to take a shower, pull out my comics and relax for the night.

I watched 3 episodes last night (not sure which; they were the 3 right after TAHITI) and they were indeed markedly better than the previous episodes. They still aren't great, or even as good as I hoped when this series was announced, but at least they weren't as bad. I'm still 2 (I think) episodes behind.

One episode, the newest one.

Maybe he was referencing the reveal that Fury isn't dead (would be somewhat holy eff for those who didn't see Cap 2) or the Gravitonium reveal

There was a point in the episode where I said "what???" outloud in surprise but it was small and for the life of me I can't remember what it was.
