Ultimization Game Discussion Thread

I promised I'd tell the story where the idea came from:

Basically, I got back into comics (Ultimate Comics) and came to this message board due to being a table-top RPG gamer. I bought Mutants and Masterminds (a superhero genre rule book) and wanted to run a super hero game in an established comic universe. I used to be a pretty big Marvel buff in middle and high school, so I started doing research to come up with a setting, and discovered all of the continuity was overwhelming...and then I found the Ultimate Imprint. A year later, I have all of the TPBs, have started following issues, and have discovered this forum to help me sort out what has happened when and where, (I LOVE DiB's timeline) and help me plot out the game I am running.

The Purple Man Ultimization is basically the plot of my game, though Purple Man wasn't originally the cause of it all.

I now spend more time on these boards than on the RPG boards I once haunted.

Oh and by the way: http://www.ultimatecentral.com/forum/showthread.php?p=244851#post244851

You're a geek....

:D That's funny though. I just got back into comics a number of months ago, around the same time I started playing in a superhero RP as well.

The nerdiness doesn't change the fact that I'm way awesome, though.

Hmmm... Interesting choice for this round. However, I can't help but feel like Ultimate Invaders, under a different name: Battle Hymn by B. Clay Moore and Jeremy Haun, released by Image as a mini-series last year, and a TPB collection this year.

I started a non-spoiler thread about it, complete with handy links to preview material and background info (which many people regrettably ignored):

Look, I don't wanna give away too many spoilers because I absolutely loved this book. But if you wanna see the Invaders written with the cynicism of Ultimates, you need to get the TPB of this. (I believe the collection is titled Farewell to the Golden Age.)

I got mine in under the wire
Congratulations, Houde! You've (unintentionally?) created the first major hint of "everyday" American society being more advanced in the Ultimate Universe than in the "real world": in fact, network TV broadcasts did not begin in the US until 1946, and it was not something ordinary middle-class families (like Steve Rogers') could possibly afford until mass production in the mid-50s.

Furthermore, "action figures" (in the old-school 10" G.I. Joe sense of the word) were only produced in the mid-60s onwards, believe it or not.

So your entry -- if you intended it to be serious -- features two major anachronisms, right off the bat.

Still, it's good fun, I suppose.

Zombipanda, all comments on ideas must go in this thread.

That's the end of that!

Start voting. I will announce the winner bright and early tomorrow morning!

Houde, rewriting History, one day at a time!

It was all in good fun, that's all

Stop being so damn serious, or I'll fly to the philipines to challenge you to

MORTAL KOMBAT!

I'm gonna extend voting to noon today, Wednesday, Eastern Time. I only have one vote so far.

That's not democracy, that's a king!

Damn. X-Man. Okay. So my entry is up.

I made the conscious decision not to involve him with any of the stuff related to Ultimate Cable and Ultimate Bishop, since that storyline is still ongoing.

However, I did tie him in with several concepts associated with 616 Cable and 616 Bishop. Confused? Hopefully, you won't be, after you read my idea.

Honestly, it feels a bit rushed, like hack work -- my brain on autopilot. But the next week is going to be so busy for me, that if I didn't submit an idea now, I wouldn't have another chance to participate.

I don't count on winning this round. I look forward to the other entries -- hopefully from people who have a greater appreciation for the character than I do.
