Ultimization Game Discussion Thread

I dunno, I just thought this could be anyone's answer to Cable. Can't do cable, why not X-man. It was this or Adam Warlock, but i have some damn good ideas for him to.
 
I edited mine to include a proper resolution for the sub-plot involving Rachael Dayspring.

Originally, I didn't mention what happens to her, because it was not directly relevant to the story of "X-Man", but I felt that I should mention it, because I didn't want it to seem like I threw her into the plot for nothing. I have a definite direction that I want the character to go in, beyond the immediate Askani storyline.

Incidentally, I don't think it's very fun to be Ultimizing your own version of the Shadow King, so soon before he is confirmed to appear in the actual series (as established in the February solicitations). But hey, maybe that's just me.

Well, I changed mine. More convoluted? Sure. But then, it wouldn't be X-man.

I basically tried to give a backstory that explains all of the glitches in the current UXM arc, without making it an actual "back" story.

damn i forgot he was confirmed. Otherwise i wouldn't have ultimized him.

Okay, it works out, logically, except for one *fundamental* problem --

More convoluted? Sure. But then, it isn't very Ultimate.

I think Ultimate stories should be (at least partly) about fixing the kinks in the existing 616 story, and using a more streamlined, Occam's Razor approach to writing, without necessarily dumbing down or over-simplifying the concept.

And I feel that it's *extremely* difficult to do that with X-Man, without turning him into a bland cosmic-level thread.

I mean, points for effort. It's all very well thought out. But it just doesn't have the elegance I'd like to expect from an Ultimate story.

(I'll admit that even my own entry is somewhat guilty of this.)

I see your point Compound, and I even agree with you.

X-man is what he is. I refused to do a time-travel story, I refused to do an alternate relaity story...options get limited with X-man at that point.
 
alll right alright. so x-man wasn't the best of choices. i was just hoping that someone couls make an interesting x-man, and make him work. we've had really awesome ideas here before. it was a hope.

Seriously-I enjoyed writing the X-man entry, convoluted as it was. It took my mind off of the masisve amounts of grading I need to have done...NOW.

Oh, come on... This can't be serious! Only two valid entries for this round. I hate to sound like a prophet of doom, but this is *precisely* how the last game started dying out. :noway:

EDIT: I just relaized that the deadline for submissions is not over yet. Please forgive me -- for the record, this is the first (and hopefully last) time that I post on the board without being 100% sober. I swear, I will think very hard before I make any further posts, before the inevitable hang-over sets in. Just the same, the time zone stuff messes with my head sometimes, even when my blodd-alchohol level is normal.

To the best of my knowledge, there's no extension. It's just Monday night here, and people should have the rest of the evening to post any entries. Then we lock it up, and people have Tuesday to vote.
