Ultimates V2 #9 discussion (SPOILERS!!)

You know what I'd like to see? The Defenders redeeming themselves by actively taking part in the civilian evacuation and relief operations efforts. I'd love to see them just stop being such self-absorbed wanna-be super-heroes, for once, and really lend a hand, to the best of their human abilities. Surely those guys must have some kind of professional skills or training. Let them really live up to their name.

that's the whole point of the Defenders. with the exception of Pym, those sad sacks don't bring anything to the table. no skills, no tech, no nothing. maybe Loeb will retcon them, but for now, in the Ultimate world, I would rather have a troop of girl scouts help me out.

Just read the issue. Guess we have George W. to blame for this.

Judging from the vast spectrum of speculation here, though, this issue answered virtually no questions and raised more than the whole series combined. Nobody saw Hawkeye die the previous issue, so it wasn't surprising he's alive. Nobody saw Stark die, so I can only assume he's not dead. Yeah, Loki and Thor said they were gods again, but I didn't see any confirmation from Odin. And what's up with the guy wearing Thor's tech?

I have no idea where this is going, other than the fact that we'll have a reasonable facsimile of the Ultimate Avengers by the time it's over. The core characters will rally and win--Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Wasp, probably Pym--but the whole anti-Ultimates as weapons of countries that can barely keep afloat without the U.S. economy seems lame.

This was a letdown because I think many people were hoping it would answer all the questions, when in fact it's just a transitional issue (and kind of a clunky, slapdash one) to the conclusion, which is going to be of a united Ultimate Avengers of familiar characters. And Joe Mad will outdraw Hitch's Wanda, with much more butt cleavage.

One trick pony.

RAWHIDE!!

Just read it.

I'm mad. Because, you know, NONE of us thought it was Black Widow. Who were the people in the last page?

I think the guy in the left corner's Abomination, bottom guy is Loki of course, then Crimson Dynamo in the right corner. But who're the rest, especially the guy with the Darth Maul saber?

We're suspecting its Red Skull. Go back and read the previous pages, I had posted a list from Millarworld which pretty accurately identifies at least 6 of them...though its still up in the air whether or not or how many are completely original characters, without 616 counterparts.

Yup, quite a few picked Widow, including me (its nice to be right). Check out the Final Predictions thread E made a couple days ago.

Sorry, I forgot my </sarcasm> tag. It was meant as sarcasm as to how all of us thought it was her.
Ahhhhhh, gotcha. :)

And now I agree. Such an obvious choice. But if the double-agent thing plays out, won't be that bad.

But still....

But if it answered all the questions...what would be the point of the final 3 issues?

Like I said, finding out who the traitor is, in the grand scheme, is almost meaningless. It's the least important part of this story.

When we all saw the cover to Ultimates #10, most of us knew it was going to be Black Widow, we just wanted it to be more shocking than that.

So is the guy in the middle Red Skull or Red Guardian? Can't be Red Guardian, as he was the decaying crazy Soviet super-soldier in Ultimate Nightmare. Unless, of course, he somehow deaged and got in better shape.

We're pretty sure its Red Skull, though he was only referred to as "Colonel" in the issue itself. Red Skull could still end up being someone else, we'll see. But as it stands now it seems safe to assume its Red Skull.

Wasn't he some kind of colonel or whatever in 616?

See, I would have guess Red Guardian before Red Skull. I'm not convinced that is Red Skull and I don't know why everyone is calling him that, unless Millar and/or Hitch have confirmed it and I just didn't hear about it.

As I said in another thread: I would have no problem with us finding out that the soldiers in Ultimate Nightmare were like beta versions, and these are the final versions.

Millar did say Red Skull was going to be in. He said it in Wizard when he also mention Ultron.

What Ice said. And it's cool that Ultron hasn't appeared yet. It makes him a seperate threat but this Red Skull involved in the bulk of it is good real nice take on an ultimization from what we've seen so far. But we can't just have two main villains show up after the fact... one of them has to be the leader of this crew in Ultimates 2 #9.

My guess is that Millar might be a ***** and leave this volume with a cliffhanger involving Ultron. But that other matters at the moment.

wow. this issue was incredible. and what was really great was that among all of the wide screen action, there were moments that while quite, and loaded with info. for example, the way Betty reachs out to Fury at the start of the attack.(have there been any other clues that they have been making the beast with two backs)

I liked the artitic themes of close up on the eyes, and the various doubles.

Eyes: opening page. when the scientist is reflected in Hawkeye's eyeball
close up on both Widow's and Tony's eyes during the scene where Jarvis is shot. and many others to numerous to mention.

doubles: for a second, I thought the doctor was Banner. maybe I am wrong, but the doctor on page 2 looks like an evil Banner clone. he's a Mirror Verse Banner. :)(trekkies know what I am talking about)

what's with Millar and the Star Wars homages. the darth maul saber in this issue, and the Fantastic Four there was some guys that looked like Jaw-was(sp?).

this book is so good, it hurts.

Good points.

I think E knows that, I think he means that Red Skull might not have made an appearance yet and the Colonel guy in this issue could be a separate character. Though the obvious foreshadowing and paralleling to Cap kind of leans toward it being Red Skull, but nothing definitive or even close.

Anyone else want to badmouth another member? I don't care if the person deserves it, DO NOT post crap to another member. I see one more person do that, GOOD BYE.
