Ultimate Origins series discussion [Bendis/Guice] [spoilers]

Re: Ultimate Origins discussion (spoilers)

One of my favorite things about the Original Ultimate Universe (OUU) was that most of the characters' origins weren't tied completely in with World War 2. Just Captain America. It made it easier to enjoy.

Nope!

Out the window!

Re: Ultimate Origins discussion (spoilers)

Ah, World War II. When countries could launch military campaigns without any of that pesky "grey moral area" nonsense we have nowadays...

Yeah.... Hips don't lie.

Or at least in hindsight...

Re: Ultimate Origins discussion (spoilers)

The second issue was better than the first.

But it was just a rehash of the original Captain America origin.

Which I am fine with keeping in the Ultimate Universe.

I was confused as where that pillar thing came from.

There was just nothing really exciting.

That's it in a nutshell. It's not exciting. It's just exposition. It TRIES to be so (in that, the Cap origin isn't bad or anything) but it isn't really. I don't care about what will happen in #3 because not much will.

Re: Ultimate Origins discussion (spoilers)

What'd you guys think of the actual issue, though?

I thought that, for an Origins series trying to tie up all these loose ends that it's moving remarkably slow. That's Bendis for you, I guess.

And that object, definitely the Watcher.

Your right... which I will prove as soon as I post the preview of Ultimate X-Men 96.

It's rubbish.

Re: Ultimate Origins discussion (spoilers)

If Fury is now a WWII vet who is pushing 70-80 years old, then that not only ruins Fury as a character but it also ruins Captain America since his appeal and dilema is that of 'a man out of his time'. It is stupid. Does super soldier serum keep one from aging? So if Cap wasn't frozen in ice for all that time he would still be nice and young like Fury? Just very weak and lazy writing on Bendis' part. I expect better from him. Perhaps the Loeb retcon of the UU is taking its toll on him and he just doesn't care anymore. This series' end will mark the end of my Ult comic buying days.

It was a good run while it lasted.

Rubbish.

Re: Ultimate Origins discussion (spoilers)

I'm pretty sure Fury has made references to growing up in a specific (recent) era. For sure there were a couple in the Ultimates novels.

Sounds like it. Wouldn't it be more realisitc if all this stuff remained unconnected? Like in real life, where just a bunch of random stuff happens? The 616 universe is starting to be more realistic.

Retcon Punch!
