The Weird News thread

TV Links shut down, operator arrested.

...f***.

This is a huge pain in the *** for me, because they mainly brought the house down on it for the huge amount of movies they had links to, which I didn't use. I mostly used it to watch TV shows that I don't think you can get on DVD, like A Haunting.

Also, I probably wouldn't have gone and bought EVERY SEASON of Scrubs on DVD if I couldn't have watched the first bunch of episodes online first to see if I liked it. It made the studios money on that one.

Oh, and keep in mind that TVLinks has NO pirated material of its own. All the site does if list links to OTHER sites with with pirated shows.

What the ****. I needed TV Links to check out TV shows I had interest in, because the stupid networks here definitely don't play anything that's not CSI or a stupid Miami "reality" show.

However, you can't stop the signal. It will be back in some way or form, hopefully.

It's an outrage. I didn't use the site and know next to nothing about it, but you simply cannot hold someone responsible for the content of sites that they simply link to on their site. He's not facilitating copyright infringement any more than Google does.

Exactly, all the illegal material where linked from other websites and those sites are the ones that should be attacked. I get the need to crack down on most of these copyright, but that should be for more recent properties, I recently got into tv links and it was great cause I got a chance to watch some old tv shows from my youth and also got me caught up on Heroes which I now watch on tv. This is Bull.

You'd think The Guardian's Katie Allen would actually take note of that.

She's so obviously lacking in fact-checking and/or objectivity since she wrote:
One of the world's most-used pirate film websites has been closed after providing links to illegal versions of major Hollywood hits and TV shows.

The first closure of a major UK-based pirate site was also accompanied by raids and an arrest, the anti-piracy group Federation Against Copyright Theft (Fact) said today.
It is true that it provides links to pirated content, but that's calling it a 'pirate film website' is deliberately misleading.

Piss poor journalism.

This pisses me off so much. ****!

Exactly. My dad works for the news and I told him about this today. He's looking into doing a story on it tomorrow with the subject specifically being that the guy hasn't commited piracy any more than Google has.

EXACTLY.

I mean do you realize how many copyright infringements and acts of piracy Google allows us all to commit every month? Why, that amount is only limited by the size of your Internet pipes.

Looking back on it, I'm surprised no one accused me of perverted innuendo.

Yeah but accusing you of that would be stating the obvious. Like going up to Jesse Jackson and saying "hey did you know you're black?"

I meant 'bandwidth'. Just an expression.

Actually, in America, Senator Ted Stevens (who I have no idea why he keeps getting elected) was on a committee about something with the internet and he describe the internet as a series of 'tubes'
