The Music Thread : It's So Easy To Fly Through A Window

I have to agree with you totally on most of this. I also like the Beastie Boys (dunno if Timbaland is considered rap or not), but all in all, I can't really get into much rap outside of some random singles.

I love the Beastie Boys but their last album was a real stinker. Hopefully Hot Sauce Committee is better.

Yeah I don't dislike rap as a genre, I just don't like a lot of modern rap.

I was all about MC Hammer back in the day.

Pffft...

Listen to hip-hop.

Jay-Z is just about the only current rap I can tolerate.

Prospekt's March is OK but Viva la Vida is one of my favorite albums ever.
Viva la Vida is pretty much amazing.
I pretty much can't stand Jay-Z otherwise, but "Empire State Of Mind" is an instant classic.
I generally don't like modern rap/hip hop due to content, but i generally think is sounds good. But it just seems like there is not rhythm/flow to any of Jay-Z's rap. (at least the little that i've heard). Empire State of Mind sounds choppy, i guess it's free form instead of trying to follow a rhythmic pattern. It just doesn't sound good to me.

growing up in the Gangster era of rap and hip hop.....its all is dead, its all hip pop now. theres no beat to the music anymore, nothing that makes you want to stop and listen or just keep on moving. nothing to scratch, rip, or turn. no story, no deed, no sorrow, no accomplishment. only crap................... sorry, its so bad i'm having a hard time finding real underground rap going back to the roots.

Just bought Cheap Trick's first 3 albums

I listened to Nirvana Unplugged today for the first time in a while...I never realized how bad it sounds. Not the performance; I think it's the guitars. They sound so hollow and plunky.

To clarify, the actual rapping in the song is a pretty much pointless display of Jay-Z being an giant *******, but thankfully, it happens not to get in the way of an otherwise iconically great sounding song(to me), mainly due to Alicia Keys.

I quite like Jay-Z but Alicia Keys is definitely the highlight of Empire State of Mind.

A few rap albums I like: ODB 'Return to the 36 Chambers', Onyx 'Bacdafucup', & Wu-Tang Clan 'Enter The Wu-Tang'.

Also, I can't decide if I like this Florence & The Machines album.

I don't know where you live, but if you look local, there's usually some decent stuff to find.

So, I just found my old copy of And Out Come the Wolves.... by Rancid. This was, like, my favorite CD in sixth grade. Oh, nostalgia!

I bought that when it came out because I loved Ruby Soho and Roots Radicals, but I never got around to listening to the entire thing. I did recently, and loved it. Their latest is very good too.

Really? It holds up better than I thought it would. But it holds a special, fond memory for me as basically introducing me to punk music. By the time their next album came out, I'd already moved on to harder things and didn't check it out, but this particular album still holds a place in my heart.

But yeah. It's a dated sound, but surprisingly still solid.

to be fair, that's a pretty hard top five not to love. (I've never heard number 3, but the other four albums at least)
