The Music Thread : It's So Easy To Fly Through A Window

I listened to King of Limbs this morning. I like it.

But I've been in love with Arcade Fire's The Suburbs all week. I liked Neon Bible but they weren't even on my radar and I hadn't heard The Suburbs until earlier this week (after the Grammys). But I love it. This is easily a top 10 all-time favorite album.

I smell a lot of The xx influencing King of Limbs. Weird first listen, amazing second listen! Bloom, Morning Mr. Magpie, Feral and Lotus Flower are my favourites so far.

After a couple good listens, I have to say I really like the King of Limbs. I'm pleasantly surprised. Though I love In Rainbows, I thought it was a good indication that their next album would officially mark their transition into comfortable middle-aged rock band status and they'd just get boring. The new album isn't revolutionary or shocking (unlike 10 years ago it seems, at least in the UK, like releasing a more electronically slanted, dubsteppy album is the commercially safest thing they could do) but it's nice to see them still (successfully) trying new things.

Took me a long time to warm up to it, but it's a great album.

I can't decide who pisses me off more though, people who'd never heard of them before and were angered and offended that a band they don't know of could win a grammy over Lady Gaga or people who knew them and were angered and offended because they'd deemed them unhip a long time ago, as if picking a good album by a band on an independent label isn't a huge step forward for the ****show that the grammys usually are.

Yes - that and Lady Antebellum.

Ever wonder what Pi sounds like?

Me neither.

Music = Maths

SCIENCE!

I've been stuck on this musical math for like days... not sure how I missed it before;

Viginti Tres + Wings (pt1)/10,000 Days (Wings pt2) =

This is the Goosebumps theme, right?

I never got much into TV On The Radio but their upcoming album has leaked. I'm listening now and really enjoying it.

So I ordered Speak Now by Taylor Swift from Amazon and it came in the mail today. (Actually it came in the mail two days ago, but no one was home so the UPS guy left it outside near some trash bins and i found it today... yeah, UPS is going to hear about that one).

But they sent me the Exclusive Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay Edition...
it's exactly the same as the North American edition except that it says "EDICION EXCLUSIVA PARA ARGENTINA, CHILE Y URUGUAY" around the border of the cover and has the pictures of the flags on the "spine" of the case.

weird.

The more I listen to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the more I like. Nicki Minaj absolutely destroys on "Monster".

I can't stand Nicki Minaj...one song in particular. And while the beat is nice to hear, I did recreation for one unit and before I left her song was playing on the radio inside the post office. When I came back an hour later from recreation, the very same song was playing. Also, the same reason I don't like radio.

In other news, I began listening to Radiohead in droplets. Is it supposed to be depressing yet, eerily attractive? That's the vibe I get.

Radiohead is every emotion simultaneously.

I like Kanye sometimes. His performance of Stronger/Good Life/Champion/Everything I Am on SNL might be my favourite musical guest spot of the show's modern era, but I made the effort to listen to MBDTF from the beginning the other day, and while I liked it enough for a while, as "Monster" wore on I just got really annoyed with Minaj and when I saw the next bunch of tracks were all feat. multiple other people I just didn't care enough to keep listening. I prefer his solo ones.

first things first i'll eat ya brains

:rockon:

It was my favourite album of 2010.

Funny thing is I didn't even get through it the first time I listened to it. And I've been spending the last few months cleaning stuff I don't like/never listened to out of iTunes - what if I'm making a huge mistake after a huge mistake after a huge mistake?! MUSIC IS TOO HARD.

I can't stand Nicki Minaj

Hers was another album I never made it through on the first listen but I'm going to give it another shot now.

I'm just now listening to Panda Bear's first solo album.

It rocks my soul. He's clearly a medium channeling the soul of Brian Wilson.
