The All About Comics Thread 5: Comic Books Ate My Paycheck

I am totally going to read Deadpool MAX.

Is there such a thing? As much as I hate the character, I might read something like that. The thing I hate about him is the "immaturity" - it's not funny. And don't get me wrong - lots of immaturity IS funny (NEXTWAVE) and I like it. Deadpool isn't.

He could be great in a MAX comic.

Favourite Grant Morrison comics?

You're polling?

I need to read more of his lesser-known stuff.

My favorites:

1. Seven Soldiers of Victory
2. New X-Men
3. All-Star Superman
4. Current Batman stories/Batman & Robin

I didn't really get into JLA Earth 2, The Filth, or Marvel Boy. I only read his first Animal Man arc and it was good but I didn't care enough to continue with it.

There was a mention of it on CBR and Bleeding Cool - it's going to be written by David Lapham and drawn by Kyle Baker. I feel pretty much the same about the character as you do but a MAX title could have a lot of potential.

I still need to read Doom Patrol, The Invisibles and Zenith but I think New X-Men, All Star Superman and his Batman stuff are my favourites too.

Agents of Atlas ends at issue five

ARRRRGGGH! Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, S.W.O.R.D., Runawys and Captain Britain and MI:13, and now this! Why do you hate me Marvel!?

Imagine if Starman was cancelled after five issues?

Seriously, five issues don't give books long enough to gain a following, especially these books that are more out there and don't have SPider-Man/Wolverine in it.

I shouldn't really blame Marvel though, they can't help the sales, and they did offer Parker the chance to write them into a crossover/event tie in. Sigh, well at least there's a Gorilla Man mini coming out, plus Venus is going to appear in Hercules.

Well, if they were willing to give Atlas another shot, that means they must have seen potential somewhere, either in the pitch itself or in sales from the crossover minis that came out. Five issues is hardly enough time for a series to gain legs. That's not even the length of a typical miniseries. Hell, IIRC, the second or third issue just came out, never mind the trade.

Technically, Marvel didn't cancel it, Jeff Parker saw that the sales were around 20K which is where books usually get axed, and decided to just write the end of the series. Marvel seemed willing to try and extend the series' life span, but Parker declined so that he wouldn't have to resort to telling stories he didn't want to.

Oh, well, in that case...

:( Sad to see it go.

Hopefully they'll stick around more like the Young Avengers and less like the Runaways, but Parker has said that he would be open to doing Atlas specials on occasion. So fingers crossed.

Maybe we can get Atlas Academy with the Agents of Atlas training the next generation of killer robots, talking simians, mythological monsters, and spacemen.

I would buy the **** out of that.

I just ordered the trades Agents of Atlas: Turf Wars, Beasts of Burden: Animal Rites, Batwoman: Elegy, and Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour for about $50, thanks The Comic Board Store!

Geof Darrow's art scares me.
