The All About Comics Thread 5: Comic Books Ate My Paycheck

You want to read a sucky comic? Avengers Prime.

All of the sudden Cap has an attitude with Tony? They seemed to be on OK terms in the other Avengers book.

I too thought Prime was terrible. It's Bendis trying to write classic Avengers again... and it doesn't work at all.

Simone Bianchi finally found a Marvel project that fits him:

I'm currently struggling through the Spider-Man Complete Clone Saga Epic (volume 2).

What a mess this is. The dialog is TERRIBLE and the writing is just as bad. Spidey gets poisoned and is dying and Doctor Octopus gives him an antidote. He smirks as Spidey passes out. Next we see him he's got Spidey on a slab and is working feverishly to revive him. Huh?!

I've developed a theory that could probably be proven with some sort of mathematical equation. Any comic which contains a character saying "You just don't GET it do you?!" or some variation thereof is automatically bad. Check it out for yourself. You will never find a good comic that has a character saying that. It's so stupid.

"You just don't GET it do you?! I did it 35 minutes ago!"

I've read most of the Clone Saga but I can't remember if I read Maximum Clonage. If I did I shut it out of my memory.

Also, I think we all should work "You just don't GET it, do you?!" into more posts here.

So, I've been reading Hitman, by Garth Ennis. It's more awesome than you might imagine. It's a very superhero comic, which I wouldn't expect from Ennis, but he's still got his trademarks. It's funny and heartfelt at the same time. It's also one of the few comic books to write an event tie-in that doesn't feel like it intrudes on the pace or story of the book itself.

And it's got a superhero called the Dogwelder. And yes, he does exactly what his name suggests.

Yeah I got up to issue 18, it was really good, I need to finish his run.

Also, I like the Defenestrator better.

I just read Transhuman by Jonathan Hickman. I read the first issue when it came out but the series has been sitting in my "to read" virtual pile for a while now.

It wasn't anywhere near as strong as The Nightly News, which I was disappointed about. The set up is similar, to a degree, but I wouldn't have expected him to just rewrite The Nightly News for the medical industry or anything like that. Still, it didn't have the same focus and intensity.

But I did like the different slant to a familiar plot in comics - the birth of a superhuman race (so to speak). This time it's told with a focus on the companies behind the enhancements.

I also thought it went to "funny" in some odd places. The humor was kind of out of place.

Still, a pretty decent read.

Has anyone been reading the Fraggle Rock comics? They are great.

The Muppet Show comics have been even better.

Gail Simone has too much fun with Twitter:

I am totally going to read Deadpool MAX.

Favourite Grant Morrison comics?
