The All About Comics Thread 5: Comic Books Ate My Paycheck

I've finally made it through Denny O'Neill's AWFUL run on Daredevil (from the 80s) and now it's back to Frank Miller. "Born Again" is next!

I'm so excited!

One word summary of Power Girl #12? ADORABLE.

I'll miss Palmiotti & Gray on the title, but I'll really miss Amanda Conner's fantastic art. Seriously, she owned that book.

Born Again was hard for me to get through. I'm trying to think of the word to describe it...deep? Complicated? Involved? It wasn't bad, just a lot to take in.

I really liked the Man Without Fear mini he did with JRJR though.

yeah, it's certainly heavy stuff.
I just love the way he writes King Pin!

I have both Frank Miller Daredevil Omnibus volumes and I've only read Man Without Fear and Born Again. I should break those out and read the whole things.

Jason Aaron is definitely my current favourite writer. I'm giving all of his comics 4 or 5 stars pretty much every month.

speaking of punching in the face, I just read Wolverine vs Spider-Man (from 1987). In it Spidey and Wolverine are tracking a KGB operative through East Berlin. Towards the end Spidey and Wolverine get into a fight and Spidey realizes that because of Wolverine's adamantium skull, he has to punch Wolverine as hard as he can to do any damage at all. During the fight, the KGB operative they're tracking sneaks up on Spider-Man, his spider- sense goes off and he reacts and turns and punches her in the face full strength, thinking it's Wolverine. And he kills her!

Spider-Man killed a woman by punching her in the face!

I actually like the early stuff better than Born Again. (Haven't read Man Without Fear yet)

If you like 80s comics, it's really good. And even if you don't like 80s comics, it's still good, you just have bad taste!

Did anyone read the Terminator 2029 3-issue mini that just finished? It was written by Zack Whedon - pretty good book actually.

There's another series called Terminator 1984 which comes out this fall.

These Guardians of the Globe are going to be a backup in the actual Guardians of the Globe title.

You want to read a sucky comic? Avengers Prime.

All of the sudden Cap has an attitude with Tony? They seemed to be on OK terms in the other Avengers book.

Then we might have to agree to disagree, kind sir! But perhaps we might find a middleground in disliking the art?

Also, Mettle? I thought his name was fortress?

I thought the art was fine, except Speedball's costume is dumb, but then when isn't it?

Prime takes place before the other book and I'd assume this is where they hash out some of their differences. Also, the biggest difference between Prime and Avengers is that stuff actually happened in Prime.
