The All About Comic Book Movies Thread

What? Remember Justice League?

Yeah, I remember Justice League. I think that was more of a case that everyone hated the way it was going so WB came to their senses and pulled the brakes. I don't see what this has to do with that other than they're both DC films. Sure, it might end up in development hell, but I don't think it will.

I really don't understand why so many people seem upset by this.

Ryan Reynolds is one of a very few actors or actresses that just annoy me. I haven't been able to stand him in a single thing I've seen him in. Green Lantern is not only one of my favourite heroes, and a character I've been looking forward to seeing a movie of longer than any other, but he's practically an analog to my own father. The idea of Reynolds, of all people, getting cast as him is horrifying. It was bad enough for me when he was in talks to play the Flash, although at least I could see that he was fairly appropriate. But has none of the qualities I see in Green Lantern. He doesn't even look like Hal. How did this happen?

It's a personal attack on you.

Either that or the producers have a different assessment of Reynolds' acting abilities than you do. Really, who's to say which it is?

I have to admit he wouldn't be my pick for the role. Hell, he wouldn't be in my top 20 picks for the role, but this is far from being one of those casting decisions that really floor me. It's nowhere near as bad as Keanu Reeves as Spike Spiegel. Just typing that sentence still makes me cringe.

Remember when they were eyeing Anton Yelchin for the part?

The funny thing is if he were ten years older, he might be my #1 pick for the role. I love his acting, and he looks an awful lot like Hal.

Except it's not one or the other. There could be many other reasons, a lot of which suck, like they're rewriting GL's character to be a Ryan Reynolds-esque smartass because they think that'll sell more tickets, or they think Reynolds is going to be particularly bankable for some reason when the film comes out so they're going to try and make him work even if he's not the very best choice. That's the kind of thing I'm really worried about.

Alright. I can respect that, and I see where you are coming from. I have actors that just rub me the wrong way as well. I'm not going to say that you are wrong, because really it's anyones guess at this point as to whether or not this works. I do think that he looks enough like Hal to be justifiable though. As far as his acting, I'm hoping that he uses this oppurtunity to do something new...less "smarmy" as someone else put it. For better or worse, I have faith in WB and Martin Campbell.

And if they do include a cameo from the Man of Steel, as has been rumored, I hope it's Cavill. That would be sweet.

If DC do that could it be possible they are doing a Marvel? E.g the superman that appears is the one they use in the next superman movie, When they do wonder woman or flash also have a cameo or too. Then Justice League.

Or is that just too much to hope for?

Honestly, I'd rather not see DC do that. It works fine for Marvel's blueprint, but I think DC should just focus on making prestige films with their iconic franchises. No need to crossover. Keep the films tight, individual, without the clutter of a shared universe, nothing more than wink-and-a-nod Easter eggs. **** the Justice League.

While I stand by your right to speak your mind, anyone who says **** the League is a commie.

Don't get me wrong. I've dug various incarnations of the book throughout the years. I just have no particular desire to see it as a live action movie....

While it seems extremely hard to pull off, it still has the potential to be the the greatest epic action film ever made. I think that time and care and effort need to be put into it, unlike the last attempt WB made.

Nicholas Cage said that the next Ghost Rider film shouldn't be a sequel, a reboot or even a remake but a reconceive.

So another word, we have another Reboot on our hands.

Dangit, that's stupid. You got paid money to do it once. You failed, you shouldn't get another chance.

Geoff Johns to produce and co-write the Flash movie!!

Now why couldn't he have been involved with the GL movie?

Note: there's a small part of the interview at the site that the link takes you to. If you want to know what Cage said in his own words.

Why do people keep asking Cage about GR2? seriously

if they're going to do it they should flush everything established down the toilet where it belongs, and not have a single actor return... maybe the guy who played Caretaker he worked pretty well.

and the Director should be Robert Rodriguez taking heavy influence from Jason Aaron's run
