Spider-Man 3 (discussion and spoilers)

6. Brock shouldn't have died. He deserved a whole movie.

7/10 - Spider-Man
8/10 - Spider-Man 2
5.5/10 - Spider-Man 3

8/10 Spider-Man

6.5/10 Spider-Man 2 (The most over-rated superhero film, ever).

8/10 Spider-Man 3 (Only on an enjoyment level, do I give it this score.)

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk,
I'm a woman's man, no time to talk.
Music loud and women warm.
I've been kicked around since I was born.
And now it's all right, it's O.K.
And you may look the other way.
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man.
Whether you're a brother
Or whether you're a mother,
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive.
Feel the city breakin'
And ev'rybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive.

Ah, ha, ha, ha,
Stayin' alive.
Stayin' alive.
Ah, ha, ha, ha,
Stayin' alive.

Was there a scene after the credits? I didn't stay as everyone dragged me off, but someone mentioned it to me today that he heard there was one?

Saw it.

When MJ kissed Harry, the person next to me whispered, "No, no! Ah, you whore!"

This movie gets a 4/5. It dragged, I couldn't understand why MJ didn't just explain the situation to Peter on the bridge (goblin super hearing is not a power, you dumb *****!), deus ex butler was lame, and the dancing was just too painful.

Still, I could understand the reasoning behind it. Like somewhere on here said, it amplified his dorkiness as well as aggression. I liked the scene where he's ordering around the landlord's daughter.

Sandman was awesome. The scene where he first reconstitutes himself out of sand? Pure gold. I didn't get why he agreed to work with Venom.

That fight scene at the end was the greatest superhero movie fight scene I've ever seen.

Gwen Stacy seems like a reasonably intelligent woman with a lot of self-respect. She's like the anti-Mary Jane. It's too bad Peter ruined his chances with her.

Newscaster: The hostage has been identified as Mary Jane Watson, an actress who spent a short time on Broadway. Yes, this is the same woman who was dangled off the bridge by the Green Goblin. Yes, she was also grabbed out of a cafe by Otto Octavius. It's not clear exactly what has led to a record three kidnappings by super villains. Perhaps they were impressed by her past performances screaming and looking terrified.

Saw this a few days ago and just got my internet back working.

It was bad, but I still enjoyed it because I was smart enough to turn off my brain before entering the theater. The main problem is the same problem X3 had, too much stuff going on and that ruined the pacing. The second was that the acting, plot, and characterization were more like a saturday mourning cartoon than a film. It was fun to see the classic team up of villaind and super heroes but it really ruined alot that the other two movies built up.

When ever I watch a movie I usually immediately think what would have made it better and assuming most have already been said about the movie, I'll just go right into

What Random Would Have Done

Spider-man 3

First thing, get rid of Venom. Now I am not a Venom Hater nor am I by no means a fanboy. Venom was forced into this movie which ruined the pacing and to make Venom a good movie character he (and the suit) needs more time to be explained and developed. I'll go into how to make Venom work later.

Second thing I would do is get rid of Ben's killer subplot, it was stupid and ruined one of the greatest origins in comics and with out the suit, its just stupid. Also with a villain that Peter has no emotional investment in we could have a lot better situation for classic Spidey banter, the banter they had felt really forced and stupid. From Sandman I would play up the aspect of a con on the run with a sick child it worked great in Prison Break and the barely explored this dynamic in the movie which would have been a lot more interesting than emo boy. Have scenes like the police talking to the wife and child, things like that and make his daughters situation be much more depresate, like she is going to die soon without the money, and after being constantly stopped by Spidey he gets desperate and takes hostages like in John Q for example, in the final act (more on that later).

For the MJ side of things I would have just played up the falling in her career and the success in Peter's. This creates some jealousy and doubt about their realtionship, which in the end things get settle and she realizes that she is being stupid. (She was really unreasonable in the movie).

For the Harry aspect instead of losing his memory after the fight (I didnt kinda like the throw back of classic comic book retcons) he just gets even more pissed off that not only did Peter beat him, but Pete also saves his life. I would have Harry kidnap MJ as Goblin which freaks her out, but he just hides her to lore Spidey to fight him at the mansion. Now for this fight I would have given a Anikan vs Obi-wan feeling, Friend vs friend. Peter really doesnt want to do this, Harry is his friend, the fight is just tearing him apart inside. The fight ends when Peter uses a large amount of webs to tie Harry up and they have a vocal confrontation where Peter finals tells Harry exactly what happened with Harry yelling "Than why wouldnt you have just told me?" Peter tells him that last thing Norman said "Don't tell Harry" (Seriously why didnt they put this in that scene). And Peter goes on about how much Norman loved him and Harry is just in silience, Peter asks where MJ is and Harry tiredly tells him.

Now for the final act with Sandman taking hostages, same setting just maybe a bus load of people in the building traped by sand. I would have the military start attacking first but ultimately gets defeated. This is where Spidey would step in, he wonders whats going on with Sandman why is he doing this he is just a criminal. The fight goes on but eventually Sandman starts beating Spidey (much like the part where Venom was holding him down) This is where Harry shows up and helps Spidey. (The Super hero/super villain team up was cheesy but fun and we dont really get this in movies so I would keep it). Spidey and Harry eventually weres Sandman down but he gets a hold of the board and intends to impale Spidey and Harry takes it instead. Spidey throws a bomb into sand man and immediately takes Harry to an ambulence. Spider-man now fights Flint with a vengeance until finally Sandman is too exhausted to barely hold himself together. Spidey asks him why he did all this and we get a heart filled confession from a man who feels he failed to save his daughter, Spidey convinces Marko to turn himself in and promises he'll do whatever he can for his daughter.

Peter goes to Harry's hospital room and finally get closure on this whole thing, Peter ask Harry for one last favor. We see Marko walking into a prison and he sees on tv a news reports stating Osborn industries has paid for the Sandman's daughter's operation and Flint enters jail proudly. The movie would end with Spidey proposing to MJ on a building top.

Spider-man 4

The thing about the third movie was that they barely explain the suit or gave any real importance to it. I've always hated the "hero becom es dark or emo or whatever for whatever reason" so I'll just stay way from that, I would just add Spider-man chasing down a crook and pictures his Uncle's killer much like in USM. Now for the film I would choose Electro as the villain until Venom shows up. Mainly because he can be really powerful and the only way Spider-man could defeat him is with the suit. Also Brock need more screen time and set up, at the begining of the movie he is on top but is yanked down and just a bunch of crap falls on him. They had him getting fired in a good way, I would rework how he loses his girlfriend, but he needs more taken away, like being evicted from his apartment, etc.

About the suit I would have it react more like in the comics how Peter doesnt take it off but hides it underneath to close and play up the "living" aspect. Everything else just needed more time to develope than thrown in. Like the church scene felt really rushed and it could have be so much more dramatic and so much better. Have Peter start questioning his behavior and really get dirty with him pulling it off. That would have made a powerful scene and I hated how they intercut it with Brock in the church, I would just wait until after Peter gets it off before the Eddie scene. Now we need Eddie taunting Peter for a few scenes before kidnapping MJ showing every reason why Peter didnt want to date her. They really need to play up the Spider-man vs Dark Spiderman aspect there wasnt nearly enough to satisfy me. Just more is about all I can really think of right now.

There's probably more I wanted to say, stuff I left out, spelling mistakes but right now I'm just tired of typing.

This movie sucked spider-nads.

Sandman had like six lines in the second half of the movie which wasted all the potential they had in the beginning. And Peter let's him go after he attacks the cops and almost helps kill Mary Jane!?! WHAT!?! Venom was incredibly unthreatening, he looked awful (how much did they spend on CGI), and he had no business being in this movie. Green Goblin II was the only remotely interesting villain and he was hampered only by being played by Franco, who needs to go to acting school. Still he was miles ahead of Toper Grace who should be banned from acting forever. I've actually calmed down a bit since I first saw it, when I first left the theatre I planned on starting a movement to get him euthanized. Seriously, his first scene was ridiculous.

"Oh my god that's Gwen. Oh hey sir, I'm dating your daughter. Now let me get back to taking pictures of her falling to her death."

Not that any of his other scenes were much better. When he asked God to kill Peter the whole theatre was laughing. But enough about Topher, there's enough blame to go around as far as bad acting goes. Dunst was mediocre at best and Tobey was hysterical when he was trying to be serious (him crying on the bridge got another big laugh from the audience) and spastic when he was trying to be funny.

I guess what really made me realize how awful a movie this is was the big dance scene. I assumed that I had fallen asleep in the theatre because I was sure that there was no way that crap had actually made it through editing. Raimi dropped the ball big time. The plot was retarded, most of the actors should be punished, and Bruce Campbell should get a medal for making me forget how bad the movie was for a few minutes there in the middle.

This movie was worse than Daredevil.

There. I said it.

I completely agree with McCheese. I hated this film with a burning passion, as I believe I said before.

Although I thought that when Topher Grace wasn't in lame-CG-venom mode, he did a decent job playing Eddie.

I agree with both of the two above posts.

And Doom endorses.

I'm saying this with the utmost seriousness here people----what I say next I do not take lightly.....

I'd rather watch Elektra. Four times in a row. Followed by a Ghost Rider double feature.

And Doom endorses.

Perhaps with a little Daredevil and Fantastic Four thrown in for good measure?

Who did you agree with about Topher Grace?

Dear lord. I don't know about all that.

Worse than Daredevil sure, but those two? And watching them in that order? I shudder to think what would happen to your mind if you tried that.

Ok...maybe not that bad. But I'm putting in the same category and standing of Elektra.

There. I've counted to 3 and said my peace.

Because he was won over by the symbiote's sympathetic acting.

Until Mary Jane or anyone else gets kidnapped/held hostage FOUR times in one day, no one will ever EVER EVER beat Elisha Cuthbert at being the victim.

I enjoyed the movie. It was not that good, but it was enjoyable.
I just hate the fact that a meteor falled right next to Spiderman, its just stupid.
The dancing in the street was funny but unecessary.
Venom sucked. I love Venom, but it sucked in the movie.
No room for Sandman, I think he was the deepest character in the movie. They could easily play more of the "I need to save my daughter" thing. He could be the only villain (together with Goblin jr.) in the movie.
Also, Venom calls for Sandman to team up to kill Peter Parker and Sandman just say yes... WTF? I know the guy is made of sand, but a creature with pointy teeth just asked you to help it kill a guy. I know Flint didnt like Spiderman, but he wouldn't win anything with that decision.

There were too many forced actions in the movie, but it was enjoyable still.

what i hated was that nothing was followed up

does Sandmans kid live?
do peter and Mj get back together?
what happened with the ring?
does Sandman get cleared of the murder charges?
what happens to Oscorp?
no follow up on Mj ditching John Jameson at the altar?
what about Gwen, what happens with her?
Connors still has a piece of the symbiote right? Carnage?

stuff like this has to be followed up on so you can get some resolution to the plot lines,

there better be a SM4 so they can atleast give some closure on those stories
