Smallville (spoilers)

"HISSSS! I'M A VAMPIRE!"

"Um, weren't you just a witch?"

"Yeah, now I'm A VAMPIRE!"

"Is this some sort of Goth fetish thing?"

"Wait till next Halloween: Lana Lang, Warewolfess!"

Damn, Smallville is one weird-*** town.

Next weeks episode will be awesome, but only because of the return of Lois (in star-spangled panties, of course).

I thought that same thing. Weren't you just a witch.

You know what else is stupid? Lana never seems to have these enhancements during the times when she can actually use them. I mean, seriously, I wouldn't have minded to see her turn into Isobel to take on Nam-Ek and Aethyr in the premiere. That would have actually been worth watching.

You'll have to excuse Planet-Man. He hates every episode of Smallville, which you'll see from his posts on Superman Homepage.

I thought this episode was okay. As always, I like the mythology hints.

Clark: "But I hate costumes."
Clark: "I kinda' like the cape. But the mask...it slides all over the place. Makes it hard to see."
Chloe: "The Daily Planet is the home for all aspiring journalists...and future superheroes."
Chloe: "And my career will be going up, up, and away."

Not true at all. There are plenty of episodes I love. This was actually my favourite show for a while. But it has fallen. Oh Lordy it has fallen.

The cape/mask thing was actually my favourite thing about the episode, as I said in my review of it on the Superman Homepage:

By the way, here's a Brainiac manip of Marsters I threw together in paint:

Next weeks Smallville we get a really treat. And no I'm not talking about Lois stripping. That a different kind of treat. Next week we have a Dukes Reunion. Special guest star Tom Wopat (a.k.a. Luke Duke). Tom will be playing the part of Jonathan's Old friend Senator. Jack Jenings. Tom Will show up in a car that looks like the General Lee. But it will be a light blue, and no Conrederate Flag painted on it.

Ever since the movie, I'm just not that excited about it anymore. It won't make the episode any better and even worse they'll be scenes focusing on the reunion that it'll take away from the episode because a lot of people won't care about it.

A witch who happens to be a kung-fu master. I didn't know European/French witches were also proficient in "Tiger style"????

Now if she were a ninja, a witch, and a vampire all at the same time, that would be awesome. Maybe a pirate too...

If she were a ninja......she wouldn't need to be all those other ones. Because ninjas are the most awesomest creatures in the world!!!!!

But seriously-----I love Smallville....but they take too many liberties with the storylines. The whole witch plot from last season was just garbage. As well as Clark knowing Lois Lane this early in his life??? WTF??? I'm sure the WB can carry out this show for another 3 years....or at least until Clark grads from college. I do however get the whole fanboy-goosebumps when they have episodes like The Flash and Aquaman. So I guess since this show's got a few more years and they're doing the whole JLA guest spot thing---we can expect to see Wonder Woman in the next year or 2. She'll probably be this really strong sorority chick who thinks she's the daughter of a goddess. Thus covering the whole greek Amazon background. Then in like Clark's senior year we'll get the ultimate guest spot----Bruce Wayne!!!! But he won't be all Batmaned out....he'll just be a nosy business man trying to buyout Luthercorp. Just to please the fanboys.....he'll be in all black with a utlity belt......or something like that.

A Batman episode would be great. Clark would figure out about Bruce's past and realize what he's been doing for the past 10 years or so. There would be a great moment where Bruce has to use his martial arts skills and everybody is quite shocked. And there would be a tiny "worlds finest" joke thrown in for good measure.

I have a Graphic Novel collecting various Superman comics from the 30's to the 70's, there is a flashback issue where Lois (who is like 14) goes to Smallville and competes for some Junior Reporter competition. Typically, Clark as Superboy saves her from something, Lois gets a better story because of it, Clark buys her Ice Cream, and it ends with a lame joke about there future selves.
My point being back in the day Clark had meet Lois before he came to Metropolis.

However, I like to think of Smallville as a kind of Ultimate Superman, explaning all the diferences (Lex being his friend, Pete being black, Lana not having red hair, Jor-El being a bad guy, Lois, Bart Allen being the future Flash, etc..)

Jor-El's not a bad guy, though. I've said for the past three years that what he said has been misinterpreted. He's been trying to prepare Clark for his destiny - becoming a savior, even if this means being a prick while doing it. Let's face it. Clark's become stronger and taken more steps towards becoming Superman with Jor-El. Everything he's done has been to make Clark stronger and prepare him for the horrors and for the evil he will face later on.

The sad thing is that nothing in Smallville is made up. The writers are fans of the Silver Age and pretty much all of the nutty ideas were in Silver Age comics. For example, Lana actually was a witch a few times, the numerous varieties of Kryptonite, the Kryptonians named Aethyr and Nam-Ek coming to Earth. It did happen, and they adapt the Silver Age alot, for better (such as Lex and Clark knowing each other in Smallville) and for worse (the witch).

So far...IMO...Season 1 has been the best. They gave so many nods to the original mythos of the character that I just about popped my shorts every episode.

But then in Season 2 they started that cave mess. It kinda went downhill from there. Now I just run with whatever they show me.

I have a love/hate relationship with how they develop his powers. I know they just can't have him shooting fire, seeing thru walls and flying around all in episode 2...so I like how he discovers his powers gradually. But don't you think it's time he starts learning some new moves??? I don't think he's exhibited the freeze breath gimmick yet. I think it's a little early to have him flying (but I did enjoy seeing it in last season's opener)........now if only it looked natural and not like Neo prepping for takeoff.

Decent. Nothing spectacular.

Hmm didn't care for the DoH references at all. Thankfully they didn't focus on it too much.

Lois striptease was.... eh. She looked good but her awkward acting killed it.

Not as much Lex as I'd like.

Ummm yeah, it just wasn't great.

I do like the whole direction we see Lois and Clark going in. I hope we get to see a catfight over Clark between Lana and Lois.

Lex/Clark's relationship... I'm getting tired of the whole Clark goes to Lex and they're confrontational then they're friends and Clark trusts Lex and it's weird... Well hopefully it will stop soon and we'll get the full bad Lex finally.

Clark's whole stopping the helicopter scene was awesome as usual. Love the use of powers and the superhearing was spotlighted this episode. I just wish they'd stop showing the biology of the ear... I mean what the hell

The Strippers acting was heinous

eh... 3.5/5

Six words:

Now this is more like it!

I thought this was a really good episode. No freaks and no Lana!!!

NO LANA!!!!!!!!:D

The only real problems I had were Clark actually being arrested and cuffed for being in a Strip Club whose owner was suspected of illegal activity.

Also, Lois and the taser. The whole point of a taser is that it paralyzes all your muscles, and yet she wakes up as strong and fast as ever. If they wanted this effect, they could've just had the goon hit her with a blackjack or something.

The directing was also lacking. In the first scene, it looked like the truck was headed right toward Chloe and Lois. Then it just went past them. And we didn't even get to see the super-jump! It just showed him running and then attaching the hook to the chopper.

But the rest of the episode was great. The Dukes of Hazzard stuff was actually funny(especially Jack's explination for why he got in through the car window), we got some classic Clark moments(nervously ordering a coke-on-the-rocks), a fair amount of focus on Chloe, and great special effects.

Everyone was totally in-character.

4.5 out of 5.

Ro-freaking-setta compared to last week.
