Runaways Vol. 2 #1-24 (Brian K. Vaughan/Adrian Alphona) (spoilers)

They're gonna pull out all the stops. ;) Let's just hope there's something left for the new creative team when they're done.
That's what I'm afraid of. I think BKV said there would be no warning the next time he kills a runaway. Will the whole team still be there for the next writer?

I'm sure he's already talked to the new writing staff, to make sure he and they all know where the comic's been and where it's going.

Vaughan's about the last writer on the planet who'd ever let his fans down. He seems like a real dedicated dude.

True. I should have faith. Thank you Zombiepanda you're a calming influence in this troubling time.

Do you eat bamboo, flesh, or both?

BOOO

BOOOOOOO

Unless its like Neil Gaiman or Alan Moore, I say BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Re: Runaways series discussion (spoilers)

Personally I think that Brubaker would be a decent choice, just as long he doesn't try to resurrect anyone.

Re: Runaways series discussion (spoilers)

NO!

BKV said he'd write Runaways as long as he could.

Pathetic.

I say Boo regardless. What sickens me is the Cabal members who kiss so much *** they're acting like they're happy he's leaving. I don't want BKV off the title. I know Y and Ex are set to end at some point but BKV should carry the torch of his own creation for as long as he can. Leaving now almost seem like he's just dumping the title to me. I'm so... betrayed.

Ewwww no.

As great as Brubaker is....his books have such heavy tones to them that the book would become an instant downer.

I honestly don't know who would be a good choice to throw in there. I was reading New Warrior's "Reality Check" recently and right now I'm all about Skottie Young's art for the books featuring "younger" characters.

I couldn't even begin to think of someone who'd be good enough to take over the writing portion. Dan Slott comes to mind when I think of "fun" comics...but I'm reaching. BKV had that right blend of seriousness and fun.

Re: Runaways series discussion (spoilers)

BKV was the only person who could write this title. Alphona was the only person who could draw it.

:x

Skottie Young did the art for the Runaways/X-Men right? It was ok for a free comic book, but not what I would want for the main series. I don't Slott would work very well, its hard to explain why but I can't see him clicking with this book. Dammit, now I'm pessimistic.

Re: Runaways series discussion (spoilers)

I really can't think of anyone who'd be a particularly awesome fit for Runaways. Gail Simone is the closest writer I can think of to Vaughan's style, and even then, she really doesn't fit.

That said, I think you're a little too cynical about people's motives, MWF. Sure, it's sad that Vaughan is leaving. No one's going to be able to do this book like him. But there are two things I trust about BKV. One is that he'll consistently give us good writing on whatever project he signs up for. Two is that he doesn't **** around with his fans. If he leaves the book, he's got a damn good reason. And if he hands it over to someone, then I trust the new team. I just have no clue who it's going to be.

And Gaiman on Runaways would be about the lamest team-up ever. I mean, I dig Gaiman but let's be honest. This SERIOUSLY isn't his book.

P.S. McCheese: I eat a 40/60 percent mix of milled bamboo mixed with human parts.

Agreed on all points. Especially Gaiman.

And now I know what to get you for Christmas. Bamboo and a corpse.

Re: Runaways series discussion (spoilers)

I meant someone LIKE Gaiman or Moore...

Like its going to take a great writer to keep this book afloat.

Some Ideas: Mark Millar would write a very interesting take on the teens, probably play up their legal ramifications as well as the political struggle left in the wake of the Pride's deaths. Have they announced anything from Millar post Civil War other than 1985?? An a-list writer on such an original book would be fantastic... And if you think Millar can't write edgy teens, just remember about ultimate x-men. Also: Warren Ellis despises the traditional superhero comic, so whenever he does one, he tries to approach it from a whole new angle... His take on the runaways might focus on Victron and Karolina/Xavin.

Maybe they'll even hook a DC guy... definitely not Geoff just yet, but is Morrison exclusive over there? could he manage a Authority/Wildcats/52/Runaways workload? What about Judd Winick? His stuff can get a little preachy, but I would definitely love to see what he's capable of.

Alan Moore? If they got him, the series will be revolutionary and fantastic, and so on, and so forth. But I think there's more of a chance Joel Schumacher will be putting nipples on the Leap-Frog.

Yeah. Morrison's exclusive, and from what I understand of his relationship with Marvel, I don't think the guy's going to be leaving DC ANY time soon. Besides, he got his start in DC, and right now, they've pretty much put him in control of their universe.

What about Allan Heinberg, the guy who did Young Avengers and is currently writing for Wonder Woman?

Edit: Additionally, 52 will be wrapping up around the time Runaways is handed over, but I wouldn't be surprised if Morrison walked out of 52 with at least two more ongoings.

Exactly, and from what I understand, him and the Marvel honchos never really got along too well anyway. Whereas, DC treats him like the Crown Prince of Comics.

I think Heinberg had problems with lateness after the first arc.

Well. If BKV says the new creative team is worth a damn, then I have the utmost confidence in him.

Gail Simone and Jim Cheung. Please.

I would love to see Gail Simone writting this.
